A&E Stampede this morning was insane!!!

Not college kids. They want summer jobs. and a theater job is an extra bonus.

And a Theater job with Disney is a lot better than a server at Denny's so if you are working in Minnesota with your theater degree from a average State school it isn't any more of a dead end than you are in now.

Yeah, I'm sure they want summer jobs. But it isn't summer for most colleges yet. Many, if not most, don't end til the second week of May. So maybe there will be an influx of friends of Anna's and Elsa's after that point...but at this point, those college theatre majors you're talking about are still in school.

I guess you've never had firsthand experience with some of the companies here? We've got plenty of theater majors here at Rollins...and plenty of blonde-hair-blue-eyes too, but they're Rollins girls, so they'd balk at working for anything other than Daddy's money...:rotfl2:

Hahaha yes, so you have to find a combination of all these things:

- Willing to live in Orlando
- Ability to actually afford rent etc
- Willing to get paid what Disney is paying
- The right size-shape
- Acting ability
- Right Age
- Right face

etc etc

When 7 Dwarves Mine Train opens for business the lines at A&E will get shorter :scared1: That ride will be the new "Running of the........." ride. Probably for quite awhile too.......

Doug :goofy:

probably because it's essentially a low-end, part-time acting gig.

Disney have to knock back countless people every time they audition. They don't have a hard time getting people interested in the position. :thumbsup2 They reject more people than they accept.

exactly they reject 100 times as many people as the accept.

And seriously it isn't exactly Shakespearean acting to play Elsa!!

Any Middle school thespian can do it, heck a personable elementary ed major! give them a sheet of info about the character and a list of sayings and 24 hours and you have an Elsa.

What does Disney do for the non-summer months (like now and since Anna and Elsa debuted), when those college theatre majors looking for summer jobs are in school?

Well the answer is in the amount of replies every A&E thread gets! This thread is a few days old and already has hundreds of replies.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say the Dis execs are starting these forums to draw attention away from the FP+... but we all know they don't care about our opinion :rotfl2:

Anyway.. you all can enjoy A&E. I'll be the guy walking casually to Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain..

If they reject so many applicants then why are they having so much trouble finding someone to play A&E? It's hard to believe that so many don't fit the "look".

With the mad crush of humanity trying to get to meet A&E (i've seen pictures of swarms of people jammed between princess castle and the carousel), how difficult/exasperating is it to make it into the line for Cinderella and Rapunzel?

I have no idea where "officially" that idea came from but that wouldn't be true. Sounds like a made up PR persons response to complaining about the waits.

Think about how many show up for auditions. It isn't a rare look.

As far as non summer months, there are thousands of unemployed "actors" out there, especially in this economy.

Disney is choosing to keep the demand high.

Apparently because I enjoy torturing myself, this weekend I spent more time than I care to admit reading a chatboard of posts from wanna-be Disney Princesses, including ones vying to be A&E. According to what they were saying, literally 100s of girls show up for auditions and only a couple make it to the end. I didn't know this, but apparently casting calls are held around the U.S., not just in Orlando. Many of these girls had pictures up and they look "princessy" (to me) but most were rejected for parts. So it's definitely not a lack of applicants that is driving a lack of A&E in the parks. Disney has some kind of magical formula for picking their princesses and for whatever reason, many, many girls don't fit the bill. We've encountered some pretty crappy princesses from a personality POV so I have no idea how bad the people who they're rejecting must be. LOL.

All young people have tattoos nowadays. Seriously, its like they have tattoo artists showing up at high school graduations.

Anyone seen a Disney princess with a visible tattoo? Even on an ankle or something? I imagine that's an instant disqualification for Disney.

There has to be way more to it than we know. It must go beyond look and being a drama major and so on. Interesting...

Most girls had to do a dance number as well, because they may be required to perform in stage shows and parades as well as do M&Gs. Very few reported having to act out a scene, but most reported having to do the dance number. So I'm thinking the dancing ability, rather than the acting, is the limiting factor. Let's face it...anyone can say they're an actor and try to act out lines, but most people don't have any formal dance training to be able to complete a choreographed dance number.

But not all of them have to be able to dance. They just need more girls to get the lines down. If they need A&E in a show or the parade, then find a set of them that can dance and put those girls in the parde/show, but not all of them need to. Disney's priority should be to have more girls available for the meet and greets so that someone doesn't get trampled at rope drop.

The Disney CP (College Program) runs year round. Interns are found in various roles throughout the park as as well as PI's (prof. internships).

I'm aware the cp runs year round. The poster I was responding to had asserted that college theatre majors need summer jobs, and A&E would be great summer jobs for them.

IME, many performing arts college programs are heavily structured, and missing 1 semester actually sets the student behind a year. It actually happened to a college friend of mine when he went to Disney's college program. When he returned, he was no longer in the same year classes as the rest of us were because the courses he missed were only offered once/year, and they were prerequisites for the courses we wee taking when he returned. He did not graduate with us.

Now, obviously there are many college students who still do the CP, so I am not in any way suggesting that less college students are pursuing that option. However, perhaps those that are still doing the CP either do not have the required skills for A&E or do not meet the physical requirements of the parts.

I am also not saying that Disney.wouldny artificially keep demand high. I do think they want the demand and hype, especially with diagon alley coming. That said, they also don't want the negative press of this stampede to A&E either...they may need to cast a few.more friends of A&E to find a good balance of keeping demand high and the crowds safe.
