A Disboards Swap!

Hi!! Please let me know if this is ok to do on the dis. I was going through my walk-in closet (aka mini-mall) where I keep all my purchases for future use and sale bargains. I have saved several clothes for the Dks to wear to Disney, but what I didn't anticipate was what the Dks received as gifts from DG and so I have lots of extra brand new clothes and a few other new items that I probably won't be able to use. They are from, TCP, Hard Rock Cafe, Rainforest Cafe, Disney..etc.. My proposal is that we start a swap thread to request items we need for our own trips and post items that we no longer need and just pay the cost of shipping. For instance, I would like to find some children's dvds (can be used) for our road trip and some Mr. Potato bodies( used w/o pieces) and maybe some more surprises for the Dks pillows at WDW. What do you think?

This is a great idea! I for one would be for this. I don't really need anything (at this second anyways), but i have a LOT of items I don't mind getting rid of

This would not be a place to advertise to sell anything, only for trade. I realize there are rules about soliciting on the Dis. I just thought we could help each other out. I also was informed about a Disney Swap Meet, Magical Moms website, and that is nice,however: I noticed that most of the items were for sale. This again would be for trade only and only pay the shipping to mail the items to each other. I think this could be a great resource!! Thanks for the help on getting it started!

I don't see it as any different than the summer package trade that everyone did. The only thing you have to be careful of is saying "I'm looking for...I need..." posts because it will ultimately attract 'salesman' to the thread. I once posted that I was looking for princess costumes and my pm box was completely full of solicitations in less than 2 hours.

I just want to add that I'm glad there are some moms out there who fanatically shop, put back, hoard, bargain-troll, etc., the way I do!

Could you please explain to me what is wrong with trading items if it can all help us budget and save for Disney? I totally understand about soliciting and
trying to advertise, but I would not even take 1 cent for any of my items and only want to trade for other items. I realize that I am still relatively new on the Dis, I guess I must be missing a point here.

I think that the objection has been that the DISBoards were never set up to have a "Classified" section.

That and the fact that even with the countless exchanges that we have had over the years - things go wrong. There have been people who never get their exchanges, etc. DISsers get ticked off, etc. I know that in the past, the WMs did not want to condone these, and then have to become responsible or involved if problems develop.

We will see what comes of this decision...

I can understand that. However, what about the summer exchange, that was allowed and there could have easily been problems with that also. I just don't understand why some are allowed and some are not. I think it would be wise to post a warning at the start of the thread about the dis not being liable for any problems or complications ie.. Trade at your own risk. I believe that most people here on the Dis are some of the most reliable quality oriented people there are. I hope this thread makes it through the "Powers that Be". Thank you, Beth for explaining things to me. I am slowly learning.
