Yesterday on Carousel Inn's FB there was a message which stated that stuff was stolen from his car presumably by the valet at Carousel Inn. The person who posted that message also left a couple negative comments regarding the hotel suggesting people not to stay there. Then this morning these negative messages were gone......pixiedust:

Carousel or no Carousel, it is a common sense to NOT leave valuable in the car, especially when someone else also has the key to your vehicle. But it kinda bothers me a bit to see these comments to be deleted instead of being addressed by the management at Carousel. :sad2:

I just wish my 3 nights stay at Carousel in Nov will be a pleasant one....

I think on a hotels own FB page they have control over what gets posted. They probably want to deal with the accusations without having to answer dozens of other people's questions about what happened. Also anyone could post anything they want and it doesn't have to be true. A hotel review site is a better place to see hotel reviews. I personally like Trip advisor. There are some guidelines for posters too. Trip advisor will watch out for people who are spamming or making a lot of wild allegations.

I actually do social media for several companies for my job, and I can explain this!:cool1: Sorry, I'm just never able to explain anything tech savvy, so I'm excited.

If the business owns the Facebook page, they still can't control what others post on the page. So the original poster (in this case the guy who was complaining) would have had to delete his own post. I'm assuming he was probably contacted by the hotel staff and they resolved his issue, so he took it down. I don't work with the hotel at all, so I don't know, but we've had situations like that before.

For example, one of the restaurants I work for had a really rude post from someone who had tried the food and just didn't really like it. I responded, sent him a gift card asking him to give us another try, etc. He did, but still didn't like the food. However, he was really impressed that we tried to make it right for him, so he deleted his post. But as the page owner, I couldn't do anything other than address the problem, offer to help in any way I could, and mount the best defense I could. If he hadn't chosen to delete the post, it would still be there. Business pages work differently than personal pages, in that you can hide posts from others on your personal page, but not business page.

There is one other option, would be that the hotel had contacted Facebook and asked them to remove the post, but that's kind of unlikely. Mostly they only do that for people who are seriously offensive or threatening. So I'm guessing it would be the first scenario.

Hope that helps!

Actually, the Facebook page owner can delete whatever posts he/she feels. I recently posted a bad review and my comment was deleted...and not by me!

Yes I was going to challenge that as well. Just because the page is made by a business doesn't mean it's a business page. It can still be set up like a personal page, just for a business, then the creator of the page absolutely has the right to delete things. If someone posts something on my wall that I don't agree with or don't want others to see I can definitely delete it.

Yes, you guys have that correct. If it is a personal page that they have just set up as a business, then they can't delete it. But if it is set up as an official business page, there are a lot more Facebook restrictions. For example, you can't send messages to people from a business page, and you can't tag them in a post unless they have already posted on your page. Lots of weird restrictions on business pages.

I haven't looked at the hotel page, so it could certainly be a personal page. But if it is set up as a business page (which it should be, if it's not, that should be reported to Facebook) then the restrictions are much tougher.

I run a business page and I can delete, remove & restrict who can post on the page.

Really? Is it set up as an official business page? Or just a personal page for your business? I am an administrator on several of our clients' pages, and I can't delete or remove comments. But they are all official business pages, as is the one for Carousel (I just checked).

Here's another question: is the account linked to your personal page? I wonder if that makes a difference? Because each business page needs to be linked through a personal page, and I wonder if that person can delete items? Because as a page administrator, I can't, but I didn't create the page. I wonder if that makes a difference...

Sorry to hijack the thread with wonky Facebook policy musings! I just feel bad if I told you the wrong thing. I've never been able to delete things on a business page before. It is certainly something I'd advise against doing except in extreme cases (we've only ever tried for very crude comments, etc.) It does exactly what this instance did for you - makes Carousel look like they are hiding something.

The business has a "friends" page that this official page was created under. I run both.

I am also an admin from my personal page.

I can delete posts from either.

Carousel has a valet? (not doubting you! just the message. but him saying it's the valet, when I really don't think the Carousel Motel has one of those, could be cause for poofing his comment.)

This is what I thought.

Yes, from their Amenities section of their website:

"Parking (surcharge) w/complimentary Valet Service"

Yes they do. In fact we had to use it on one trip due to the parking lot being "full." They then just double park your car in the "valet" section of the upper lot and move it as needed.

Thanks so much for sharing! I'm going to have to look into why I can't do that as an admin on these pages. Trust my fellow DISers to teach me something I can use in my "real" life! Thanks so much!

And again, so sorry that I was incorrect earlier! I must be stuck in some weird Facebook loophole. Which isn't too surprising, it seems like they make changes to what business pages can and can't do every week!
