a holiday dinner with my family. One person always make an uncalled for scarcastic remark or someone takes an innocent comment the wrong and everything goes downhill from there.

I don't know if it is because I have never noticed it before or it is just getting worse around here, but almost every thread I read is like this. I'm not surprised or anything by it, just amused, as I usually am when this happens at family dinners.

I agree... Can't tell you how many threads I have lurked on and thought... but they didn't mean it that way while the OP in thread, or even another commitor was getting "flamed" to death.. It has actually made me really "think" before I comment on or start a thread... I'm always afraid my comment is not "clear" enough so that someone does not take it out of context... geeze :) I do love the info I get from the various DIS boards though, so I just grin & bear it! :goodvibes

I think it is getting worse. I used to post here a lot but stopped several years ago for this very reason. Now I mostly lurk when I want some excitement.

I have a work friend like this. She takes offense at something someone says every day. It gets very old & tiring to be around her.

At least on the Dis I can flit to another post or board. I'm stuck with this woman for 12 hour shifts. :sad2:

But, we're all one big, happy, loving family at the end of the day!!

;)

Really. Okay, sometimes. Normal family, right?

This is the very reason why I'm afraid to say anything and lurk most of the time. AND I very rarely post my thoughts to my own thread, I have been berated enough that I contemplate even coming back.

Honestly, most message boards I've been on with more than a small handful of people are like this. With larger groups, you don't know most of the people posting personally and so, not everyone is going to get along and not everyone is going to disagree politely. It happens.

Unless the moderators want to enforce a strict code of demeanor, you've got to just learn to sort of 'live and let live' or 'roll with the punches' or another cliche of your personal choosing. As an aside, I was a member of a board with a sort of enforced politeness rule and it was horrible. Someone has to decide what is polite and what isn't..and then has to decide who best to enforce said 'politeness'. The result was more drama than you can shake a stick at - it just wasn't out in the open.

It doesn't really bother me, because I don't really take what someone I don't know thinks about me personally. :confused3

that's actually a really good way to put it! you've got the crabby uncles, the know-it-all cousin, the really nice aunts, etc... when we see someone really "being" one of these, let's label each other. that'll *really* get everyone going!

Just what do you mean by that? :lmao: Mom always liked you better anyway.

I have many false starts on a thread and just decide to cancel, for that very reason. Many you just know aren't going to end well, but some just seem out of the blue. It's a full moon tomorrow, so maybe that's it?

Peace and pixie dust :hippie: pixiedust:

Phase of the moon, I heard its going to be an epic moon too! This is the second "why can't we all play nice" thread I have seen in the past couple of days. Must be the moon

I think one has to have thick skin to post and to comment on any type of message board. There is no way to type inflection and often a smilie just does not portray the intended tone and then people take it the way they want which is often not what the poster intended. At the same time people, myself included, type away and don't always take a step back and really analyze how their comment reads.

I find it interesting that 9 times out of 10 if there is a negative way and a postive way to interpret what was written it will be taken in the negative and attacked.

I think everyone needs to remember its just a message board and not take things personally.
