Cast: Me, 26. Adrienne (aka Ad/gf), 27
Friday:
Went home, changed, went to lunch with my dad. Went to the airport. Booked a 20 min chair massage at the d_parture spa. I must say, I NEEDED that massage. It definitely helped ease my stress. I also hadn't had a massage since before I got my license, nearly 2 years ago.
After I got my massage, I checked my flight status. DELAYED. Bah. And to make matters worse, it was unknown if I would be able to catch my connecting flight on time and what would happen to my luggage. I got my connecting flight switched to a later (and the last) flight from DFW (Texas) to Denver.
I boarded the plane when it was time and the flight was smooth. When I landed in DFW, my connecting flight was also delayed. Oy. I called Adrienne to let her know that my this flight was also delayed and let her know my ETA. I also grabbed some grub. Once on that plane, the takeoff was smooth, but the landing was not.
I arrived in Denver at nearly midnight (2a EST). I napped on the flight to Denver, so I wasn't too loopy. I met Adrienne at baggage claim, and lo and behold, my luggage arrived before me. *phew*
We went to find a hotel, as both she and I were tired. We found one and crashed for the night.
Saturday: Had breakfast, relaxed, and checked out of the hotel. The bed was stiff and uncomfortable. WTH. Cursed Sleep Inn.
We went to the Museum of Natural Science and History. That was fun and kickass. After that, we went to lunch and just took it easy the whole day, even getting some napping in. We ended up going to Starbucks in the later afternoon. We just hung out, looked at a road atlas (yes, we're both nerds/dorks/whatever). After that, we went to Gunther Tooty's. That place is awesome. It's a 50s style diner with great atmosphere, great food, and great milkshakes.
Next stop: hotel. We found a Ramada and checked in there. The bed was so much more comfortable that we almost fell asleep watching Over the Hedge, which Ad had never seen before. We then went to the pool/hot tub (open until 11:45p FTW!) and just relaxed in there for a while. The jets were viciously powerful. Even with out combined weight, the jets were able to push us. The jets also beat up my kidneys. Ow. From there, we went back to the room for some much needed R&R.
Sunday: I was feeling beat up from the hot tub jets, but wasn't too bad at first. Ad & I went to get some breakfast--a breakfast which was a bad choice, as I felt bad the remainder of the day.
We went to a laundromat, as Ad had been in Denver all week. After all that was said and done, we went back to the room and put our stuff down and got ready to go to Downtown Denver.
Downtown Denver was awesome. I took the bulk of my photos (coming soon) during this time. We stopped by the Capitol, the Courthouse, the Mint, and an awesome looking church. I know I'm non-practicing, but I do enjoy the architecture of churches. We stopped for lunch at a local place where we got great pizza. When we were done here, I still was feeling poor, so we headed back to the room. I rested for a while, while Ad did her own thing. We ended up watching the tail end of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and then some CSI.
Monday: We slept in. For us anyway. On checkout, I was told that the computer botched my rate and raised it to the higher rate for one night instead of the one I was originally supposed to have. Not only did the hotel fix the rate, but they gave us free breakfast. This hotel--the Ramada--is not one of the ones with the free continental breakfast.
We went to Starbucks (a popular hangout for us, as it did have a very nice seating arrangement) and relaxed there for a while. My favorite pic of all 116 I took was taken there. Around 2p we went to lunch at a local Chinese restaurant. Very good. The portions were too big, though.
From there, I had to be brought to the airport. We got all the way up to the security gate, where we said our goodbye. That was the HARDEST part of the entire trip for me.
The plane was delayed, but only by 20 mins. I arrived in MCO safely around 1135p EST. My dad picked me up and brought me home. He crashed here for the night.
I unpacked, got online to make an ammendum to my online blog, and chatted online with Jess (a friend of Ad's) & Ad. Getting to sleep was Not Easy. I was still on Mountain Time, plus I took a 60+ min nap on the plane. I stayed awake for a while. I figured the best thing to do would be to put some biofreeze on my neck, low back, and hands, as I normally do. That helped.
Now back to my "regularly scheduled life"...
