I hope you enjoyed our trip around the tree. Up next. . .I unexpectedly become a part of a show and then, our YOAMD VIP treatment!

We headed over to the town of Harambe, to take in more sights, before we met up again with the YOAMD crew.

While we were there, several men were doing a show depicting traditional dances and music from their homeland. I was absolutely loving it:

The next thing I knew, the men began to come towards the audience, picking people to join them. This man, came in my direction, and brought me back with him!

It was so much fun. As you can probably see, I had a blast!

And to think, we hadn't even gotten to the parade yet! Don't worry, it's up next, and we got to see a celebrity up close, too. . .I'll be back soon. :thumbsup2

By this point, I was hoping to have another installment of our trip done, but I had some technical difficulties uploading my Photopass pics to the website I use. :headache: Now that all of those pics are downloaded, I'll figure out what the next installment will be. We have a Nor'easter heading this way, so chances are I won't have work tomorrow, which will give me plenty of time for updates. I can't believe how many pics we have! Thanks for hanging in there with me. . .it will be worth the wait! :thumbsup2

I was too busy shoveling snow to work on my TR!! :cool1:

Great news about your July TR ... I'm waiting to see what kind of deals are offered for September (my birthday) or November (the DD's birthday) ...

Time to read ...

So, after I finished dancing, we just walked around the area. We had to meet the YOAMD crew on the bridge over to Africa. On one end of the bridge, we saw one of the Photopass people, so we got him to take these shots of us, which we really liked:

Now, finally we found the YOAMD lady who granted us the VIP viewing status for the parade. She was upset, because she couldn't stay with us as planned. Then, she walked us to our area and told us about the YOAMD cast member who would be with us. We walked over to a cordoned off area, on the bridge that was labeled VIP. It was a great location. We began chatting with a family from England, who was already there and then, the actor Edward James Olmos and his family were being escorted over to the area, as well! For those of you who don't know him, he is a famous actor, who is now probably most known for being the commander in "Battlestar Galactica". In case that doesn't ring any bells, here's a picture of him:
EdwardJamesOlmos.jpg

My DH and I had heard him narrate the Candlelight Processional the prior year, and we were excited to see him, but not so bold as to approach him with his family. He was narrating that evening, over at Epcot, and was making sure his family got settled in for the parade, before he went over to practice for the evening. We really wanted to go over and say hi, but we didn't want to intrude. All of us, including the cast member assigned to us, were excited. Later, we spoke with his family, who really seemed sweet.

Okay, so in preparation for the parade, the CM held out a basket of African instruments for us to choose from and use during the parade. This was the one I chose:
PC270153.jpg

When you shake it, it sounds like a bunch of little maracas, but even better. I'm Puerto Rican, so I felt drawn to this instrument. I wish I could have taken it home. It was a neat sound.

We were told to play our instruments, those of us who chose to borrow one, and that those who are in the parade know to give special treatment to the VIP guests, so don't be surprised by all the attention. They weren't kidding. Here, I'll show you what we saw:

The part you don't get to see is when he gets closer and I suddenly found myself in a huge monkey hug! It was funny and shocked my DH so much that he forgot to take a picture of it!!!

We had never seen this parade before, so not only did we love it, because it was new to us, but because of all the VIP treatment. When the parade was over, we were so happy to have experienced the parade so up close. Then, the YOAMD cast member asked us to wait for a moment. He had forgotten something.

When he came back to us, he told us that the cast member who had chosen us and had to leave, left us some gifts. The CM presented us with a cute YOAMD certificate and. . .a beautiful picture of Mickey and Minnie outside of the AKL, autographed by the famous duo! Of course, we went and got a special AK frame to always remember this day by.

An amazing day. Typically, we haven't spent a great deal of time at this park, because it's usually summertime and way too hot to endure. We are so glad we had such a fabulous experience that day. :goodvibes

I was there in Feb and it was so weird not to be hit with a blanket of humidity as soon as you enter the gates

After the parade, we figured we had a pretty full day at the AK, and we headed out. Before leaving, we took some pics of the AK Christmas tree and decorations:

wow what a bunch of great updates and pics.

You saw Commander Adama. :worship: I am a huge BSG fan. In deep depression we are down to the final 3 episodes.

Loved the tree pics.

Great parade pics - it was our first time watching it, too - and we thought it was a lot of fun (pics - and maybe video - coming up in a "couple days" in my TR ...)

I'm a bit surprised though - after the great day you had at AK, I would have thought you would have booked AKL for your next trip ...?

Well - I guess you can always change your mind ...:rotfl:

Great update! Love the pics of you and DH, they are great!! Especially the close up one!!:thumbsup2

WOW, the parade was SO close! I'm so jealous! Can't wait to hear more!!:goodvibes

We strongly thought about it. We were torn between AKL and the GF. The deciding factors was it's proximity to our fave parks by monorail and that it would be more pleasant at the GF in late July/early August. We want to do the AKL, but during a cooler month, so we can enjoy its outdoors and animals without feeling suffocated.

You definitely know me. . .you never know about our minds changing, but I seriously doubt it. :goodvibes

Enjoy! Like I shared already, it was fantastic, and from now on will be a must on future trips.

Are you going to do a TR when you get back from your trip?

You certainly had a wonderful AK day! Lucky you getting picked as VIPs. :yay:

I know. . .with the YOAMD literally only days till it ended, we barely made it!

I am loving all the your pictures of all the holiday fun!:thumbsup2

We really enjoy picture taking and reliving the experience, as best we can, through them. So, I'm glad so many are enjoying them, too.
