Not sure where to post this, feel free to move! I had the opportunity to visit Marceline and the Disney Hometown Musem yesterday and it was wonderful, absolutely worth the detour (we were visiting KC and stopped on our way home to St. Louis)
The tour guide was top notch and had met Walt several times, her firsthand knowledge was amazing. She had contact with Walt's sister, Ruth Beecher, until her death. Ruth donated many of the museum's artifacts and it was simply amazing. I took many many pictures, but will share a few below. There are more in my PTR if you're interested in seeing them. There's a link in my sig.
If you have the opportunity to visit...DO IT!!
This is the railroad depot that has been turned into the museum. This was the spot that Walt watched many trains heading out to sunny California and the depot he'd later leave from to head to Kansas City.
Walt's beloved barn on the Disney farm, it has been rehabbed. We were invited to write messages in the barn, and did so. There were also signatures and drawings by some famous cartoonists including Bill Watterson and Mike Peters. We left our signature...it was so amazing.
A view from the Disney farm...it remains largely the same as when Walt resided there and was an idyllic place. It's easy to see how Walt was inspired.
Hope you enjoy!
