A Cricut Question

Hi. I am a newbie to my new Cricut. Now when I cut out shapes and letters, how do I get details to them? What button should also be pushed? eg. On the Baseball cartridge I got a catcher cut out, but no details were cut. HELP

Is the baseball cartridge one of the solutions carts? If it is, make sure that the black out or shadow functions aren't on ( the light should be off). That way it won't cut as a solid shape.
