My 24yo DS is staying (caretaking) in his grandmother's farm house in Northeast CT as she spends her winters in the South.:goodvibes

He came home from work on Thursday and noticed (heard) a CRICKET in the basement.

Half the basement is finished and the other half unfinished....he says it is in the unfinished half and every time he steps one foot in there the cricket stops chirping.:headache:

Monday night and the cricket is still going strong!!!:sad2:

DOES ANY DISer's HAVE ANY IDEA:idea: HOW TO GET THE CRICKET OUT????

THANKS!!!:thanks:

DS11 has a pet tarantula....that's a whole other thread, but.....he feeds it crickets, so we have a little plastic cage of them in the basement. Well, the first cage we used had wire mesh and they chewed thru it---a dozen chirping crickets in the basement!

We would go down, and yes they'd stop. But stand really still and within a minute they'll start again. We just kept moving and stopping til we could pin point one and get it. Then start over.

Good luck!

Crickets in the house are considered a blessing. I would let it stay and feel great that it liked the company!:hippie:

We had a cricket in our vents-we were never able to find it-I think we just got used to it.

Oh yuck, yuck, yuck!! When I was a kid we lived in a rented house that was infested with crickets. I am not sure, but I think it was because the house was a ranch style, and there was a crack in the foundation slab. Anyway, they were EVERYWHERE!! They'd come out at night usually. There were two sizes--little guys about one inch long, and then big honking ones that were hard to kill. How bad was it? Everyone in the family had their own personal cricket swatter!! One morning I woke up and a big cricket was sitting on the edge of my blanket, about an inch from my nose! :scared1:

Anyway, they only went away when our landlord finally brought in an exterminator.

This same house had a yard that was full of special wildlife too--snakes that would cover the bushes with their shedded skins, and snapping turtles in the creek at the back of the house.

take the lid of a water bottle or something the same . Fill it with water and put it on a glue trap. a small peice of fruit can also be used for this. Our that we feed the Anoles get out every once in a while.

Take a piece of duct tape and tape it to the floor sticky side up near where the cricket is chirping. I hear it works wonders. My mom had one at work and I told her to do this and the cricket was stuck to the tape the next day.

HTH!

We had a cricket in our kitchen once. I heard a noise and thought something was wrong with the fridge so I went in turned on the light and suddenly the noise stopping. I turned out the light and went back to what I was doing and the noise started again. I went into the kitchen, turned on the light and it stopped. I lost count of how many times I did this :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: before I saw the cricket. It was easy to catch in a glass and take outside.
