I'm sorry this is long! I'm just hoping to get some other opinions on what I should do from some of you who may have had some experience.

A little background first... We're staying at AKL CL, handicapped accessible with a roll-in shower (which my brother needs). We had made reservations for next year, but realized we could save over $1200 if we went this December. I called on 1/29 to change our reservation and unfortunately had a clueless and rude CM. One thing led to another and she ended up loosing the CL room she was working on for our Dec. reservation. When she went back in they were all booked so instead I had to book online, although she said it couldn't be done. Well as soon as I hung up with her, I booked online and then immediately called Disney back. I explained the whole big thing and that now I needed it to be marked that this new online reservation had to be handicapped accessible with a roll-in shower.

Luckily the new CM was super nice and helpful. She cancelled my old reservation and then changed the new online one to be a handicapped room. I had to be the one to tell her that in the past, they called Special Accomodations or the actual resort (not sure) to make sure there was an actual room available with a roll-in shower for our dates. She did her thing then came back and said we were all set and that was that.

Now a couple days ago I called Special Accomodations to double check because I had gotten to thinking and wanted to make sure the CM didn't list the roll-in shower as a request. Obviously if it's just listed as a request and we don't get it, we can't stay there. The guy I talked to wasn't rude, just wasn't too friendly and/or talkative. He checked and said that it wasn't listed as a request and that it had already been taken care of. That's all he would say so I'm assuming that means the room has already been assigned. :confused3

Now my first question is regarding confirmation emails. Should I have gotten a new email after I called and let them know it needed to be handicapped accessible with a roll-in shower? I never got a confirmation email for cancelling the first trip we booked, however I DID get the email confirmation for the reservation I booked online for December. I have the confirmation number for the cancellation and it's already been refunded, so I'm not worried about that, but I don't know about the Dec. reservation after it was changed to handicapped. I don't even know if they would have sent another email confirmation with it noting handicapped accessible with a roll-in shower or not since I have my original email confirmation. I also don't know how long it's supposed to take to get a paper confirmation in the regular mail, which I haven't gotten either. Should I call back and find out where my confirmation is? Or does it take longer for the paper confirmation?

I've also been reading on here that if there's more than 2 adults in a accessible room with a king bed that they have to comp you another room. Well we're 3 adults and I'm not sure, but I thought AKL CL only had king beds in the accessible rooms with roll-in showers. Does anyone know if that's true or if there are some with double beds? I don't know if I should call Special Accomodations or the regular reservation line to check on this or not. I don't want to bother them. :confused3

Once again I'm sorry this is so long! I hope this isn't too confusing either. LOL Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

OK, bearing in mind that I've never dealt with accessible rooms, as I can manage in a regular one, here's my opinion. I think you should phone Special Accommodations again, and ask them what is listed on your booking. Make sure that it has roll in shower and any other accommodations you need. Also, check with them that your party of three will be accommodated. They won't tell you how you will be accommodated, but as long as they know there are 3 of you (which they will from your online booking), they will make sure there is bedding for three. Then ask them if they could please send you either a paper or email confirmation of this, just to set your mind at rest.

There is no point in you working yourself into a state when a simple phone call could sort it out. Take some of the stress off yourself, so you can enjoy the planning, rather than fretting about it. And don't worry about bothering them, that's what they're there for! :goodvibes

We have stayed several times in the past in a concierge CL level room at AK. They have two queen beds so you will be accommodated in one room with three adults. I'm assuming this is not a DVC villa but rather a regular CL room. The CL rooms are all deluxe so they'll be a bit larger. The bathrooms are quite spacious with a pocket door and plenty of room under the sink and next to the toilet. Your brother might have some difficulty getting out on the patio as there isn't much space next to one of the beds, but it's doable. You will not see anything on your confirmation regarding the roll in shower but when you make a ressie and special services is contaced, they are the ones who block the room. I will now say that it's a pet peeve of mine when people discuss a "comp" room on this board ( and I'm not singling out the OP who I'm sure was just asking for advice and clarification). Too many people who are not disabled have requested an accessible room JUST to get a comp room, leaving those of us who need one without the ability to reserve one. It's best just to mention that "your party size will be accommodated with enough bedding for everyone". At least in the case of AKL concierge though they do have bedding for up to four adults in an accessible room and still plenty of space to maneuver a w/c.----Kathy
