My friend will be in the parks next week and I have a couple questions for her:

1) Why are hours so long next Thursday 11/8? 8 AM to midnight in DL. To me that says DLR is expecting heavy crowds. Do locals show up in big numbers to say goodbye to the non-Christmas stuff? I don't think PTN is even running that night in DCA. It's still rated "Hey, it's allright" on isitpacked.com.

2) Does Small World Holiday typically soft open early?

Thanks!

Isn’t that the day holiday stuff opens? Or some of it? We were accidentally in front of It’s a small world the first night the lights went on and it was NUTS! A wall of people.

It's actually 2 days before the official opening of the holiday season. That's why I'm scratching my head.

when I looked at touring plans, it looks like those are the hours every day through the holidays, so maybe they just figure Thursday is the beginning of the weekend? In previous years we've purposely avoided that weekend and I thought Thursday was usually the day the holiday season started

I thought the holidays officially start 11/9? There are already holiday decorations up. As locals we go often, sometimes twice a week.

They officially start 11/9, parade will start then, fireworks, opening of Small World Holiday... But they can't do all the decorating overnight, so it goes up more each night.

Yes, I know about the decorating being too much for overnight. I can see how my post was unclear. The original poster was asking about saying goodbye to the non holiday decor. What I should have wrote was that we already said goodbye to non holiday decor late summer. LOL!

Thank you! You had me very confused because I know you know the park fairly well!

Veterans Day weekend.
I wondered, but dang that's a really long 3 day weekend. It's observed Monday so that's the official day off. I can see extending it to Friday for a longer weekend but I just figured Thursday was pushing it.

Some schools seem to have Friday off, some Monday. My son has Friday off and I have Monday off.

Schools around here don't take any day for Veteran's Day. Just federal offices for the most part. Thursday still seems early to me, but I have no doubt Disney knows their business and wouldn't be adding hours unless they were pretty sure crowds will be up. I'm telling my friend to brace for crowds. And what a shame. She chose those days hoping for lower crowds before the holiday stuff started.

Also ptn is ending Wednesday so I think that might be why they added Fantasmic on Thursday so there was at least one entertainment thing going and that pushes the hours later. It seems kind of like a between promotions peace offering day. Touring plans still ha the crowds lower. Just guessing

Yes, 2 Fantasmics that night was the other piece of it having me scratch my head. That's a pretty big commitment from Disney so I'm guessing they know something my friend didn't when booking.

They knew they had absolutely no other nighttime entertainment scheduled at either park and people get really mad about that.

That’s my point though, I don’t believe it’s about crowds alone at all. PTN is over, Christmas entertainment doesn’t start until Friday, they have to have a least one nighttime entertainment thing going.

Park hours have been extended on everyday from the 8th until 11/29. We will be there from 11/26 to 11/29 and I was worried about crowds being out of control until I saw that.
