A couple of Wilderness Lodge questions

Greetings again all - hope your Memorial Day weather is drier and wamer than New England's. I'm a newbie here and a bit at Disney World - haven't been since '93 - so I've got some questions.

-We've booked a woods view (I believe) for the end of August. I may be interested in a Concierge level room. What exactly does one get? Is it worth it to any of you? Would it make sense to book it now or is it standard to get the option to upgrade at check-in?

-Should I request a room? With what view? What floor would you recommend? What is a deluxe room?

Sorry for the many questions - I'm doing my best to get the "lay of the land" and will pick up a guide book this week I think.

Thanks again,
Michael

We also had the same questions about concierge. I booked a courtyard view room for now and I am going to wait until I check in to see about upgrading. If an upgrade is available for me it would be $35 and for you $45 (courtyard vs woods), so this is an amount I can justify. The offering include breakfast items, snack, beverage, wine and cordials in the evening.

Regarding Concierge - How old are you kids?

Ours two boys are 4 and 15 months and we thought that having concierge was very very convenient in the morning. There was no rush to get them ready before heading out for breakfast. One of us would head out to the food area, get breakfast and bring it back to the room. It made for very relaxed mornings even when we were heading out for early entry.

Also by eating a good lunch at the parks we were able to skip dinner most nights and just eat the "snacks" during the dinner hours (5 - 7). There were crustless PB&Js for the kids and one hot item and one soup for adults (and the kids as well).

On the cost front. If you book concierge upfront I'm guessing it will cost you in the $280/night range (based on what I have read) whereas if you upgrade at check-in it will be about $190/night. But you take the risk of not getting concierge because it is booked full.

We asked about the upgrade to concierge on over Thanksgiving trip last year. DH said, "Let's just stay on our courtyard view". Well, the next day we changed our mind and asked to be upgraded to concierge, but by that time it was too late, nothing available. We were the Flag Family on Thanksgiving day and were impressed by the available breakfast offerings when we passed by the tables on our way to the roof. We've learned our lesson, especially with two boys who love to eat! Well worth the $35 upcharge from courtyard, but I don't feel it's worth it at $280/night.

Hi there - You may want to check out the thread "NEW Wilderness Lodge FAQ", which can be found through a link on the top of the Resorts board - enter the thread "WDW Resort FAQ and Information" then click on the Wilderness Lodge thread. TONS of questions and answers on concierge, room requests, etc.

I can't wait til our first stay at WL in September!!

Hi there again - I just scrolled through and found that they have started a new WL FAQ thread - the NEW and Improved (if that's possible) Wilderness Lodge FAQ thread...
