I was looking at the navigators that Dave has posted on his site and I have a couple of questions for those that have gone before (this is our first cruise).....

How do they expect parents to get any sleep when the teens stuff go to 1:30am - 2am???? (I'm saying this as I'm laughing!!!!)

Ok - serious question now - what is "Pump It Up" in the Vista Spa for the teens?

When the drill is taking place, do the teens come and meet you in your spot or do you ask them to come to the room and you all go to the place together? The latter would be my assumption but I was curious how others did this.

You have some good questions. My daughter was 13 on our last cruise and she had a blast in Common Grounds. The activities do go late at night and you have to choose if your child is mature enough to handle the late nights. There isn't anything going on in the club before the drill so we just met in the room and went to the drill together. "Pump it Up" is a time in the spa when the teens do aerobics. It is usually during the nightly shows so our daughter missed most of the shows. It was her 3rd cruise and her first time in Common Grounds so she chose to spend more time with her new friends and the counselors then seeing the shows shes seen before.

Depends when you plan on cruising. Disney Magic goes into dry dock this fall. And there is serious of changes for the teen venue on board the ship. I last cruised in January 2003. I stayed up many nights till 2:30am - 3:00am. I would be up on the pool deck and there were teenagers still up and hanging out in packs on the various decks.
As for the drill, they should wait and stay with you. They will be required to be wearing life vests.

December99...first of all, I cant wait for the cruise!!! 19 days!!! BTW, how old are your teens? I am 15. so that would be cool to meet. anyway, from my last cruise I remember that before the drill and after the buffet, I went and checked in at CG. then we went as a family to the drill. later that night my brother and I went to the 411 which is the most important thing. that is where they explain all about it. make sure they go there

I have researched, and Pump It Up seems to be a time when all the teens have time to get into Vista and work out. I will definitly utilize that because I have to stay in shape for basketball. Hope I answered your questions!!!

Hi Dec99....this will be our 3rd cruise and my teen boys love it! This is the one vacation they look foward to and actually care about the clothes they pack, etc. We do allow them to stay up late and they didn't abuse it. We told them to be in by a certain time and they did honor it. I did however, always hear them coming in as we have always had a family suite (family of 5). This will be our first time we are getting 2 rooms as my 2 older are 15 and 17 and just getting too crowded to be in one room together. I'm hoping they still come in at a decent hour since we're in different rooms. My kids are pretty good and honest so hopefully they won't abuse it. I trust them. Anyway, they like this freedom because they don't get it as much at home. Your teens will love it! They are usually in groups and don't really need to be doing anything in particular...just being together w/ other teens is good enough for them. How old are your teens?

My dd is 13 and we are on the July 19th cruise with lancerguys and tezb actually. This is our first cruise and she is a very responsible and very mature kid. She won't have a problem staying up late - that's my worry!!!! LOL ;) The one problem I do have is she is ADHD and after about 10 or 11 she tends to be rambunctious and loud and she has to be told to tone it down. She just gets very excited, especially when it's something new to do. She's a great kid and very outgoing - sometimes a bit too outgoing and it tends to drive people away from her but that tends to happen later in the day when her meds wear off. I guess we'll have to talk about the Pump It Up part...she'll need the excercise (she's overweight but not bad for her age) but then it will get her even more "rambuncious" at points.

Thanks for filling me and answering my questions.

We just returned and the Pump it Up is a limited availability activity.

The kids had to sign up ahead of time. Not a first day reservation rush thing though. Just something to be aware of. My DS participated most of the time because he was missing football conditioning sessions. He didn't mention aerobics but did say there was a treadmill, various machines, and some free weights.

As for the staying out - our 13 year old was in most nights by 11, some even earlier but that is her. DS is 15 (nearly 16) and while he requested some later nights was generally in even on those by 1:30 or 2 am.

One thing he did mention (since he tends to be a relatively - for a teen - riser) is that there wasn't much to do in the afternoons at sea. Of course he then proceeded to tell us about all the stuff they were doing!

My teen son sleeps all day whether it's on the cruise or at home! No, actuallly they did sleep in but til around 11am or so. That's why at Castaway, the Teen Beach is hardly crowded...I think they're all still sleeping!:Pinkbounc

When they had to get up for something - they got up. When they didn't - they slept. Although I think DS was up by 10/10:30 at the latest. I remember he said on Thursday he went from breakfast straight to lunch though! :p

Yes for the drill you have to be with your family and you have to go because you will get fined if you dont show up.

For both of the cruises that i went on there wasnt "Pump it up" but we had morning work-outs. I would guess it would be the same thing.

And for the late nights.... some of the teen on my crusies had cerfews... but most of us hung out the the first person in our group had to leave and i think that was three. but when i got into the room i was alway quite. I also shared a room with my brother and sister. they always complained when i was loud and i came into the room.

Thanks much guys. DD and I talked last night about the late nights and she said she will probably be in by 11 and I said - yeah right!!!! LOL So I guess we'll have to play it day by day and see what the activities are that are happening. She is a sleeper too but usually has to be up by 9am because of her meds. So she will have to regulate how late she can handle without being grouchy the whole week - oh boy!!!!! :D

Thanks again
