We stayed in a concierge room last summer and have a standard room booked for our upcoming trip - just wondering if there are differences in the rooms. The two things my kids keep talking about are the DVD player and the character chocolates that are left at turndown . . . will we have these amenities in a standard room? Thanks for any info! :)

We stayed in a standard room last December and although there were chocolates at turndown, we didn't get them every night, maybe every other or something, but definetly not every night and we'd be so bummed to get back to our room and find no chocolates on those nights, there was a DVD player in the room, but we didn't have any DVD's with us so it help :(, one thing I was also bummed about was there weren't any robes in our room. I was excited about those as I heard they were so comfy. Our view was the parking entrance, but it was a great location, so close to the elevator, we loved it.

But, I so love the GCH and would stay there again in a heartbeat!! :)

No chocolate love for DVC members?!?!

Oh good, my DD thinks the chocolates were for her birthday last year and she'll have a birthday on this trip as well . . . so hopefully she won't be disappointed! Perhaps if I leave a good tip we'll get more chocolates. ;) Good to know about the DVD players - I'll have to bring DVDs this time, though, I think you can only borrow them if you have a concierge room, right? It's great that they have Disney channel but it took me quite a while to undo the damage of Phinneas and Ferb from the last trip.

The robes should be standard in all rooms. We found ours in the closet. If they aren't there I would just ring Housekeeping to have them brought over.

I believe they have them at concierge, it's been a few years since we stayed in a concierge room. I do know they have them at the guest service desk.

I think you will find the room and experience very similar between concierge and standard. The lack of access to concierge lounge is the only significant thing. You just have more money to buy nice meals, snacks, etc. whatever you like.

We always stay in a non-concierge room and have always had the turn down service with chocolates, DVD player and robes. Like one of the PP said the rooms are the same it's just access to the conceirge area and extra that you pay for that ability. We still can't justify the extra cost for conceirge. Maybe some day we'll do it for the heck of it.

We had a normal room at the Grand, it did for some reason have a DVD player (probably someone made some sort of special request, and housekeeping forgot to take it away after those people checked out?).

One night the turndown service didn't happen...we called, a housekeeper came up quickly with a huge handful of chocolates.

We then realized we could buy those same chocolates for not TOO much money at the giftshops, and we stopped stressing about it, because, in all honesty, my family dislikes turndown service (we see very little point to it). It was nice to know we could get the chocolates any old time we wanted to. :)

What exactly is turn down service. Maybe I'm just one big dork. :sad2: But do they come in and actually do anything in the room or is it just to drop off some chocolates? That's not the time they clean the room, is it?

I feel so stupid! :rolleyes1

When we stayed at DLH they just turned on the nightlight for you and pulled the covers back into an appealing fashion so it looks like the beds are ready for you to hop into (I think they also rearrange the pillows?). We got chocolates every night we stayed there, and the first night we got the birthday-towel-cake since DH said it was his birthday (even though it was a few weeks after).
