A couple DDP questions

I searched a little bit before asking this first question, but couldn't seem to find the answer. We are staying from Saturday to Saturday, so if we were to get the DDP would our plan still work all day on that Saturday, even after we check out? :cool1:

Secondly, (I feel like this is a complicated math problem) I would like to get an outside opinion on whether or not we should do the quick service DDP... (DH doesn't want the plan, I do for convenience and to feel more all inclusive, but not if we will lose a lot of money)

Last year at Disney we spent 6 full days (1 not at the park) our total for food was= $650 - this includes snacks, meals, and desserts (I'm assuming it was a little more, and we might have had cash on us, but we have no record of that)

This year we are going for a full 8 days (but only 7 nights, so 7 days of DDP, that's why I'm asking if it will still work the day we check out).

For our dining plan it would be: $588

Then we have two restaurant reservations we wouldn't be using DDP (BOG and Boma)

Other facts, last year we didn't order drinks the entire time we were there. More so to save money than anything, we used a camel bak the entire time. So we would order lunch with no drinks (so that $650 includes like one soda, and two coffee drinks for the week) This is something I would enjoy (soda) if we had that luxury and didn't have to "pay" for it.

We also do eat a lot of snacks (last year we packed a lot of crackers and such), and DH eats a lot of food (he loves a ton of food, I love a small amount of food and the desserts).

So based on all that information, does DH win or do I? lol

Yes the dining plan credits will be good until midnight of the day you check out, so you can still use them on that last day.

It's really a personal call on the QSDP. At $42, it's getting more difficult to even break even on the plan. You'll have to spend about $18.50 EACH at EVERY meal you eat and get $5 snack EVERY time just to hit that break even point. If you forego a dessert and/or soda or two, you could easily do more TS meals for the same amount.

What are your favorite QS places and what do you normally eat at them?

Thanks!

We don't really have certain ones we go to... I like the french place at Epcot, We have gone to Casey's Corner, there is another place that has amazing Salmon that is quick service in MK (we clearly don't care about where we eat, we just eat to fuel ourselves to keep going) :) When you break down the prices like that, it looks dumb to get the DDP. I was just looking at the amount of money we spent between the two years, and it was cheaper to do the DDP, but clearly it must not be anymore! We won't do any other TS than the two I managed to get him to agree to, it's all about the rides for us.

Thank you for the info!

If you need 3 meals a day (plan to eat breakfast?) I don't think the DDP will work out for you. It's harder and harder to break even on the plans and to break even you would have to eat certain things at certain places. So unless it's free I probably wouldn't do it in your case.

I've found that you can make the DDP work for you by using your snack credits for breakfast. Bagel, fruit, pastry, etc. I find that when on the DDP there is so much food that I wind up carrying the sides/desserts from the quick service meals to go and use them as snacks later in the day.

I may be in the minority, but I love the dining plans. I like knowing that everything is paid for when I get there. We have been on the quick service plan the past two years and have had some great meals with it. This year we ate at BOG for lunch and Wolfgang puck express twice. (Our meals at WPE were 98.00 for my family of four- so I definately feel that we make the most of it) My daughter also got a Starbucks coffee in Epcot as a snack credit and it was almost 6.00. I guess it's all what you are looking for. Good luck !

We're big fans of the dining plan as we've always been money ahead using it. We get the one that allows you to have 1 TS, 1 CS, and one snack a day. We have children & you can quickly get money ahead having the plan with them. We also eat at character meals & buffets, so we maximize the use of the plan there because they cost more. We'd eat at these same places regardless of if we were on the dining plan or not, so I just calculate what we would spend & what it would cost on the dining plan. We've been money ahead going with the dining plan. For the quick service plan, I think it's harder to get your money's worth, especially if you're going to eat at a couple of table service restaurants, you're going to end up with 2 extra quick service meals to use up some other time, plus you'll be paying for Boma and BOG out of pocket. It sounds like you'll want more than the one snack allotted with the plan as well. I think you'd be money ahead to pay out of pocket rather than the quick service plan, probably more than you'd think. If you really want a fair comparison, you can go to allears.net. They have the restaurants listed with food options and price. YOu can price out what you think you'd order and see what it'd cost you OOP and what it'd cost you with the dining plan. Remember to add 6.5% tax to your OOP expenses. Remember that either way, you'll be paying Boma & BOG OOP.
