I'm also going to post this in the tech board, but I figure I might get more responses here. Anyways here's my question

I can use up to pc2700 DDR SDRAM in my system, and I was wondering if anyone has used any of this kind of memory. I can use up to 2 gigabytes of it, so my question is, Has anyone upgraded their memory to pc1600 / pc2100 / pc2700 DDR memory? I mainly use photo editors like paint shop pro and do a lot of gaming.

Any brand anyone can suggest?

Well this just happens to be my specialty considering I just built a new machine.

PC2700 memory is a good choice to use of course as it will be the fastest out of what your motherboard supports.

As to the brand you want, it all depends on how much you want to spend.

If you want the best memory out there, Corsair XMS makes the best, most stable RAM on the market today.

Other brands you might want to check out:
Corsair (Value)
Kingston
Crucial
Mushkin

I'd also advise if you can to get a dual matched pair. (May also be called twin pair.)

These are designed to work together.

The place where I buy all my computer parts is www.newegg.com

Here's a direct link to their memory section.

Also is your computer a brand name? (i.e. Dell, Gateway, etc.)

If so you may want to check to make sure the hardware is not proprietary. Some computers will only accept a certain type of memory.

No, it's a Home-made system, so it'll take any brand. Right now I'm using old-school pc133, but I wanted to make the jump to DDR, but figured maybe someone would be able to help out with a few good brands. I know Kingston rules with PC66/100/133, but I don't know about their DDR capabilities...

Thanks for the link!

(btw I like to browse http://www.zipzoomfly.com , maybe you can find some stuff there too)

Yeah I just spec'd out my machine and received the majority of the parts for it.

Lian Li Case
Chaintech Mobo
Athlon 64 3200+
1GB PC3200 Corsair XMS Ram
120 GB WD SATA Hard drive
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB Vid Card

Sometime next month, I will go away from the onboard sound, get a DVD Burner and a new monitor.

Thanks for your link but newegg has always been faithful to me so I'm gonna stick with them.

Here's the specs on what I have now...

colorcases 1000 series z-black case
MSI Mbd.
Athlon 1900+ overclocked to 1.66 Ghz
256 megs pc133 Kingston
20GB Seagate
Integrated video, sound, & LAN
Lite-On 401s 4x2x40 DVD-RW EEPROM'd up to an 811s 8x4x52DVD±RW

I was looking at getting the new Athlon 64's & new memory, hard drive, vid card & sound card...

How's your 64 run? The only thing holding me back is that right now, until longhorn develops into something for the end-user, there are practically NO apps to take advantage of the 64 bit architecture.

I'm a techie junkie:hyper:

Runs wonderfully.

Bootup time of 15 seconds to get into XP. From complete power down.

I love it.

Granted I have to install some of my regular applications to test it out and I still need to burn in my processor. I'll probably do it this weekend.

Once everything is up and running and stable....

I'm going to water cool this baby and get it to 20dB or less in noise.:teeth:

oooooo water-cooling *slight hint of drool in corner of mouth* must...... get......... water cooling ability........
