Honestly, I get very few invites so I would go. I love weddings. My kids are teenagers though, it would have been a lot harder to find a babysitter when they were younger. DHs family has always made a big deal about both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - sit down dinner, etc. - they spend the entire two days together, so I would probably wind up going to the wedding solo, DH would never leave the fam on Christmas.
I went to a wedding once the weekend after Christmas. The church and catering hall were still decorated, the bridesmaids wore dark green velvet dresses. It was in the Northeast but the weather cooperated. It was one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever been to. I love the Christmas-y look to a wedding.
I'd never have gotten married on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day b/c most of our guests would have wanted to spend time with their families on those days. DH and I wanted to get married either the week before or after Christmas and my mother vetoed the whole winter wedding thing, saying the weather might be awful, the guests from out of town will have trouble getting here (most of them didn't show up anyway), etc. Now when I hear you all talk about Christmas-y weddings I wish I had stood up to her and had the wedding I wanted.
Couples should have the wedding they want, their way, and if people don't like the date, too bad.
