My wife and I would love to stay at a Moderate or even a Deluxe resort. Looking at the value resorts though they seem to be heavily geared to children. I am wondering from the eyes of a 4-6 year old which is more appealing? All Stars and Pop or WL, AKL, Poly?

What do you all think?

I'm having the same issues.. While I want to stay at a mod or deluxe, I believe my kids will have more fun at Pop or Movies.. I really wish WDW would get on the ball with an upscale hotel that's more kid orientated!

I have taken my young children 0 to 9 years of age to the
Poly, Cont, GF, POP, AKL, All-stars, beach club, fort wilderness and Boardwalk.

I know they have had just as much fun at each resort. They have no idea of the different categories. Each one has a pool, and an arcade and great themes. I wouldn't worry about a particular one..in fact I would make sure you are going to one YOU will like the most.

All Stars and Pop are visually more appealing to children (big icons etc), but deluxes have a lot more to offer. Such as the pool is generally more appealing, and a lot of activities are offered. AKL has the animals too, which I'm certain children would love.

My DDs were 6 and 8 our first time and we stayed at OKW. They knew about the values with all the planning we did. My youngest still would rather stay at OKW because that is her very first memory and that's what makes it special to them.

i beg to differ. values have giant resin figures. SOME of POP will appeal to children, but they aren't the target audience. sure, they know play-doh. how many kids today really play with yoyos or a mickey phone or foosball and whatnot.

i recently stayed at POP with a 6 year old and an 11 year old and while they had fun looking at the exhibits in the lobby (they know my little ponies), i'm pretty sure the 6 year old had a LOT more fun at WL when she was younger. even just running around in the lobby with the bridge.

all that aside, many of the resorts have plenty to actually engage the kids, not just overwhelm them with giant figures. unless you have a 20 foot potatohead at home, it's not like the kid will miss anything.

I don't think a 4 - 6 year old cares one way or the other. There are plenty of things for kids at all resorts, regardless of level, and a child that age is going to enjoy it no matter where they stay. I would choose a resort based upon what I, the adult, can afford and want to do and I am sure my child would be more than happy with whatever I choose.

We have stayed at ASMov and Pop and my DS liked them just fine. The large icons are fun to look at and have photos taken with but after that the thrill is pretty much gone.
Stayed on year at CBR and he liked it but was pretty indiffernt.
This past Feb stayed at BC and my son absolutely loved it! The pool was so much nicer and continual fun for him. He loved the walk to Epcot and the restaurants available there were terrific, much better than the food courts at the values.
I think for kids the pools are the big seller and the deluxe and moderates have really cool pools.

My kids are 10 and 12 but they would rather stay in a mod or deluxe any day! Pop is okay, but many of the others have things like slides in the pools and waterfalls! also, my kids (and DH and I) like the room size and amenities offered at deluxes. Of course, it is all WDW, so you cannot go wrong!:)

We've stayed at every level of resorts at Disney and visited all of them. Out of them all, my kids are head over heels with, and don't want to stay anywhere else but ... AKL! It's just incredible waking up in the morning to find zebras and giraffes grazing outside your balcony.

I believe you should choose the resort where YOU want to stay, and have no doubt that the children will enjoy Disney no matter where you are!!!

DD6 said AKL & DS9 said Poly 2nd choice for both is WL. And they did enjoy POP alot. They missed having a slide at the pool. AKL had so much for the kids to do.

If you ask small children, "What did you like best about your trip to Disney World?" they will most likely answer. "The pool at the hotel!"

I am in the camp that believes the parents should decide where to stay. So, if you want to go Deluxe, then do so! My kids do just fine at the Polynesian, which is where my ife and I choose to stay:)

I think the parents should make the final decision. DH and I had it down to 3 choices (OKW, Poly, or AKL) and then we asked DS8 & DD4 their opinions. The pool was the most important to them. We ended up w/the Poly - I figure happy parents make happy children - with the monorail & ease w/stroller for DD2; proximity to MK; room service if we're too bushed to go out to eat; character breakfast on site, fireworks can be seen from beach if too tired to fight the crowds, etc.

I think kids would love any resort at disney.

I have to agree with go with a Deluxe. Especially with 4-6 year olds if Poly is something you are strongly looking at the fact that it is a monorail resort is going to be very nice for all of you. Chances are you will spend a lot of time in MK with that age group and it will just be a hop skip and a jump away.

We just got back from our first onsite visit and we stayed at POFQ. Both my kids, who turned 6 while we were there, loved it. The pool, of course, was a big draw and the boat ride to DTD was lots of fun. Just the novelty of staying in a hotel put a smile on their faces.

While we were there, we ate breakfast at Kona's over at the Poly. My dd instantly fell in love with the place. I can definitely see us staying there soon.

Choose what you like and I'm sure your kids will have a great time.

I would have to say POP, cause we've been there twice, or AKL. We have never stayed there, but looked around once, and boy did our kids like that place too! To me Poly would be more romantic, but it would be great for the convience of it being a monorail resort. So I'm sure its a popular choice with little ones too!

DD who is 6, would say Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge followed by Wilderness Lodge. She was 5 on our last trip.

13 yr olds perspective = AKL because the kids might see animals outside the window.

9 yr olds perspective = All Star Movies "because I love movies" also because of the big statues and the big tv with old cartoons when you check in.
