A change in our vacation plans and advice??

Well we WERE going to Disney in July since we still have APs but I was outvoted by my DEARhusband and my mom who want to do a road trip......

So we are now looking at 2 weeks in either June or July that look something like this,

Leave Mississippi drive through Arkansas to Oklahoma to Texas to New Mexico (go see the Grand Canyon) to Arizona to Nevada (Spend a day in Vegas looking at whatever, we don't gamble), California (see the Coronado Hotel)......SPEND ONE DAY AT DISNEY LAND (I hope) drive up the California Coast to Oregon (Which is one of the possibilities in our relocation) into Washington State, down into Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and back home.

I may have left a state out in there I'm not sure!! Anyway I HATE ROAD TRIPS!!!!!!!!!!! We took a week and did a road trip after my dad died to Canada and I hated it............Oh well......LOL! I am looking forward to seeing the Northwest because I've heard so many compliments on that area.

So would you look forward to a trip like this or would you SCREAM??????

Sounds like a nice trip to me, I would look forward to it myself. Especially stopping at Disneyland
That said though....I would enjoy the time at Walt Disney World too.

That is my thought!!!!! I like going somewhere and STAYING THERE!!!

I've been to Vegas and it wasn't for me, we've seen the Grand Canyon but John-Cole (12) hasn't so I think he will like that. I've never seen the Pacific Ocean though so I'm looking very forward to that!

My mother and father LIVED for trips like this and my DH is the same way. In November after my father died we left Mississippi went through Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania to New York to Niagra Falls, to Canada, back to New York City, down to D.C., through Virginia, into North Carolina, through the Smokey Mountains home to Mississippi. IN ONE WEEK!!!!!!!!!

At least they are taking 2 for this trip.

Robin my dad did that to my mom and I at the Grand Canyon......he was ready to get to Vegas. So we stop at one of the lookouts, daddy gets out, looks down says "OH ITS A BIG HOLE!" "OKAY LETS GO!" and that was it!!!!!

My DH is the kind who will want to drive 50 miles out of the way to see the World's Largest Ball of Twine or something! Please! Give me a Sheraton and a Mall and I'm happy!!!

The longest road trip I've been on was when I was 17. My mom had a convention in Orlando and the parents decided to drive and see things on the way. I'm not sure of the exact route but we went from Montana to Florida and back, about 6000 miles in about 2 weeks. On the way there we went through Missippi & Georgia. I remember the Ozarks (took us by suprise we were looking for Mountains). On the way back we went through Washington DC & PA. We spent a day at Magic Kingdom, that was all of WDW then and a day at DC.

The travelers included my Mom & Dad, twin sis, younger sis & 3 younger brothers, 8 total in a station wagon. We never spent a night in a hotel, stayed with various friends and relatives except for FL were we camped in a tent at a campground. We thought it was a pretty great place we stayed even had a swimming pool but I certainly wouldn't want to revisit and see what I would think now

What I remember most about the trip was how very glad I was to be home

I'm a big believer of getting where I want to vacation and staying there! I still hate to rush, if I were to plan the trip I'd need more than 2 weeks. I have a couple road trips I want to take someday, CA is one of them but I want to have at least 3 weeks to do them in.

One year we went from Indy to Arizona in 2 days. But I enjoy road trips, and we had a destination.

We were once driving home from Florida. Got off the I-75 looking for lunch. First place we see is McDonald's, Husband hates Mcdonald's and says lets see what else we can find. Well we drive around that town (don't even remember where it was) for 1/2 hour and ended up right back at the McDonald's we saw when we first got off the highway.

Maybe you can research some places to stop along the way and maybe see something interesting?

That's HIDEOUS. All you're going to be doing is DRIVING, not enjoying any of the places you plan to visit. Have you looked at the TOTAL MILES of this trip and compared that to how many days you plan to travel?

Unless you want to spend your whole vacation IN A CAR WITHOUT STOPPING I think I'd pitch a major fit and show your husband just exactly what you are getting yourselves into. Go to one of the trip planning sites with road maps and driving distances and HOPEFULLY he'll see that basically what you are doing is driving for two straight weeks.

I would scream! My DH totally wants to do trips like this, as this is prime example as the type of vacations he did as a child. Although his parents were both school teachers, so it didn't matter if they took the round about way to destination "x" - they had the whole summer off! I like to go somewhere, on the airplane, and kick up my heels for a week or two. I hate driving in the car...BUT, I will welcome you with open arms to the gorgeous Northwest!

Three words of advice......DON'T DO IT!!!
If you've never driven this route before, let me tell you I have and it's horrible! Once you hit the panhandle of Oklahoma it's nothing but boring, deserted flatland. An occassional town here and there, but otherwise....nothing! I don't think I have the words to describe what an absolutely mind numbing, boring 1200 miles that drive is.

We drove from N.E. Oklahoma to the Grand Canyon then on to Disneyland year before last. I loved Vegas, love DL even more and we're planning on doing them both again next summer. This time though, we're flying to Vegas, renting a car to go to Disneyland, returning to Vegas and flying back home. We'll never make that trip by car again!

Our family really enjoys road trips, in fact we prefer driving to WDW vs flying. For us, it's close to the same mileage for either trip, but there's a world of difference as far as the drive.

I would be insane. I can't stand being in the car for more than 4 hours. It does sound like a great trip if it were broken up a bit.

We love road trips. We'd drive to see our daughter in NM every time if we could. Last year we made the trip from PA to NM in an old Jeep Wrangler. Now that was fun!!

This summer is just a very short road trip. We're flying to Las Vegas for a couple days, then driving to see the kids from there.

I would enjoy it, not sure about my achy knee though, LOL. You say you HATE ROAD TRIPS (CAPS quoted) and all you are going to be doing is on the road, so, I would say you will hate it.

You -or your DH-might want to look at mapquest.com. Your trip ONE WAY is 40 hours in the car....so 10 out of 14 days is full time driving.

I have to admit - I would LOVE it...

But - at some point during the year I would still want to do Disney too!
