A Cast Member TRICKED Me!

As a self-admitted WDW Geek,I had always wanted to see the Frontierland Hoedown, but had never seemed to find the time during my trips.

This trip,I determined to see it and went by City Hall and obtained the time for the show.

I was standing outside a store in Frontierland wailting for it to start when I noticed a CM standing nearby.

I asked the CM if the show was about to start and they said "What show?".I then expalined the show and its history and the CM said,to their knowledge, nothing like that happens in Frontierland, but that they were always working in their store and didn't really know for sure.

About that time ,I spotted the Country Bears coming onto the walkway and excitedly told the CM that the show WAS going to happen and that she could now watch the show and would know about it the next time a Guest asked about it.

The CM excitedly agreed and walked away.

The show soon started and the CM who knew NOTHING about the Hoedown was actually one of the "Hoedown Dancers"!:)

It was really funny and one of many great memories from my trip.:)

:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I missed it this trip, but was walking through the area right after it ended, and Horace Horsecollar was soo happy when I said hi to him by name. I think it made both of our days! :goodvibes:

It's supposed to be a "spontaneous" show, which is probably why the CM said "what show". That's still an awesome story, though. :thumbsup2

I'm glad the OP thought it was funny. I think I would have been hurt to be misled like that. There used to be a website where CM's made fun of guests called Stupid Guest Tricks. They would post about some of the dumb questions they would get, and some of it was mean spirited. :guilty:

It still is around(stupidguesttricks.com) and they do make fun of guests.

I seriously don't believe that people are actually suggesting that the CM should have been reported.

It's not like the guest come to the CM with a young child, legs crossed and shaking looking for a bathroom and was directed around in a giant circle or sent on a wild goose chase.

I play with guests all the time and have a load of fun doing so, I see lots of smiles and laughs on their faces and that is what my job is about. After working with people day in and out for a few years you can usually get a good idea about a person just by the way they approach you and can easily tell if you can joke with them.

Stupid guest tricks is a dumb site that is probably made up of people who have either been fired from the company or who should probably be fired from the company. The day guests and CM's cant have fun with each other is the day that I turn in my ID and look for another job, enough with the seriousness

I agree with this. The CM may have meant to be funny, but if this had happened to me, you bet I'd report it.

I'm confused. According to the OP, she didn't say there wasn't a show, just that she didn't know about it. And then when the Bears came down the street, he said she should watch it so she could tell other guests about it and she agreed. She never once said he should leave because there was no show, and she must have known he knew that there WAS in fact a show, because he told her all about it.

I think if a guest approached and said "I heard there was a hoedown but I don't know anything about it," she probably would have responded differently. Don't you think?
:confused3

Most large businesses have employee rant sites like this, the company I work for has a few in addition to the customer complaint ones. The larger the employee base, the more complaints and rants there are to to post online and people seem to feel 'protected' by the anonymity of the internet, although that is just plain silly. In recent years many companys have started prosecuting these sites and terminated employees as a result of thier activities on them.

I would rather there be a place online where employees can vent and complain about the issues they deal with on the job then there be none. Venting can really help someone though the frustration and other emotions that they may feel after an incident. If you had to deal with some of the bull that CMs have to go though, then you would be happy there is a place to vent.

As for this situation... the day that you can not joke around with people is a day I hope I never see. I think it is sad that people would report the CM. Have we really lost our sense of humor and become so thin skinned?

Guest: "How do I get to Epcot?"

Me: "Why do you wan't to go to Epcot for?, Its closed for refurbishment"

Guest: "Really?"

Me: "Nah, I'm just messing with you... (gives directions)"

I agree with this. The CM may have meant to be funny, but if this had happened to me, you bet I'd report it.

Went on Space Mountain, but didnt actually go into Space- it was just a stupid rollercoaster... I reported them for false advertising...

Exactly!:)

Since the Hoedown is unadvertised and is supposed to be a "surprise" for Guests,I think the Cast Member, knowing that I already knew about the Hoedown and therefore would not be "surprised" when it started, provided a "Hoedown surprise" of her own!:)

The CM did not walk away until I saw the Country Bears. She then knew I was positive the Hoedown was going to happen.

If I had begun to leave before the Country Bears appeared,I think she would have said something like:"Don't leave just yet-let's wait a few more minutes and see if anything happens. My curiosity is really up now too".

I don't think there was any "malicious" intent by the CM at all and the thought never crossed my mind.:)

Yup, that's called playing the role. If the cm had acknowledged that the Hoedown was planned, she would have been stepping out of character.

It's not lying, it's playing along.
