A Beer?

I'm game for getting some beer lists. But the one from Pleasure Island will make me cry.

Some fine choices there!! Would that we had stores like that where I live---.

On our May trip I'll do as thorough job as I can with the restaurants/lounges we visit.
Most likely Citricos, Narcoosee's V&A (but all they do is use Citricos or Mizners for any beer) Flying Fish., cal. Grill, Arthur's 27 and Jiko. Will also do territory Lounge, Mizners, and probably Victroia falls. And any other spot I find handy--maybe HOB for lunch.
I won't do any Pavilions at Epcot World Showcase, as they seem already well covered.
Maybe you could put your offer over on the restaurants board?? Maybe a few more folks like us over there...

This is the local HEB grocery store, a Texas chain. They have 50+ selction of singles, and more in 4-6 packs. The best I have seen in the Austin area is Whole Foods which is a health food store. They have a 3'x6' case full of singles and then 12-16' of shelves full of 4-6 packs, not a single mass market brew among them.

I'll see if I can get pic's to post.

You know I totally forgot but we found some good beers at Brown Derby when we stopped for lunch last January. I don't remember all the selections, but I know one in our party had a McEwens Scottish Ale and three of us had a La Fin du Monde - a nice belgian style from Canada (Unibru I think).

We'll try to make some notes when we go down in May.

christian,
Sorry about that I must have hit the wrong key or something. I sent you an email about a couple other beers in Epcot. Keep up the good work.

D-R,
I like you post. I was at Epcot in early December and the counter service by Africa had two or three different beers on tap. By the way I like to call it 'Beers around the world'. I am not much of wine or mixed drink person. Also, when we were there France said they did not have any beer.

Well keep things going and we should have a good list in no time.:smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

Maybe it is time to rename the Food and Wine Festival. Samuel Adams has their display set up by the American Pavilion each year. Time to add some others around WS. I like a great quality beer just as much as great glass of wine.

Finally - proof to my DH that I am not alone as a beer snob!

Don't discount the Food and Wine Fest...a few years ago (I think it was 2000) my sister and I met up with an old college friend of mine who was working at WDW at the time, plus another college friend who was visiting. We did the "Beers Around the World" tour. I would advise splitting all drinks! My sister and I shared a beer from each country represented (there were nearly 30 countries that year, so we chose the smallest size they sold). I STILL haven't forgotten how miserable I felt the next day. But it was great fun to sample...I think we went back for seconds in Germany :)

We had a great beer at Le Cellier. It was a Canadian Unibroue...there were 3 to choose from...we chose on called Maudite. It was great !!

Tod-
That refreshment outpost is starting to drive me crazy, because every time I go they have something different going on. Sometimes they have that Safari Amber, which is an Anheiser-Bush product, and it is OK but not great really. Once they had Kingfisher, from India. Sometimes they have one with a Rino on the bottle, can't remember what it is. One time they had the Morrocan casablanca - last time they had Red Hook - Red Hook is pretty good, but I am not sure about the outpost connection!

At France they often have LaBelle at the bakery there, they've had it every time I've tried. It is OK, light and a little sweet I guess. Easy to drink.

I like the unibrew's La Fin Du Monde a lot, actually. Melissa likes the Maudite as well.

Man, I tell you what. Melissa thought that she wanted to get my little brother a bottle of Lindeman's Lambic. She was thinking she would get him the raspberry, but somehow when we were in the store we were looking at the cherry, and black currant, and peach. Somewhere the idea that we should get one of each and go home and drink them and decide which one we should get my little brother. I'm still not sure I understand the logic of that - if we were going to get one of each anyway, why not just give him one of each in the first place? Anyway, I've let Melissa talk me in to it :) Listen, if you haven't had these, go get them - they are beer, but they are desert-y beer.

I've lived here over 10 years and had heard the name of a local spot, BB Rovers, but did not know it was beer nirvana in Austin!

They have 280 beers to try. Everything from Austrailia to Zimbabwe.(Once at the site, use the tabs on the bottom to see all the pages)

I have a new quest!

For the "Nirvanna" near me try:
www.kclingers.com

Hit "Tap menu" and from there you can also access the bottle menu.

And to think that the majority of restaurants in my area don't even have a beer list of ANY kind. You need to ask, and run the risk of your server not even knowing what they have beyond Bud, Coors, and Miller.. which all too often is about all they have!!

Honey, pack up the truck, we're movin' to Glen Rock, Pa. :jester:

Not being from Michigan originally we have had much to get used to - fortunately for us we bought a house next door to a couple who are mega into home-brewing and beer enthusiasts! Actually they're leaving for Belgium on Thursday pretty much for the beer!

Anyway - one of the things Michigan has a good supply of and we have found heartening is that there are several really good microbrews. Not just the pop-up micros by the mall or that also want to be restaurants (not that some of those aren't okay) but micros where beer is the focus.

I highly recommend most anything from:

Michigan Brewing Company
New Holland
Bells
Arcadia
Hair of the Frog
Founders

Those are just a handful, but they're dependably quality beers.

Is anyone going to the Great Taste of the Midwest? We're going for the weekend to Madison this August for it and can't wait!!!

Melissa

Man, you are one big beer lover. Personally, I would just as soon they pump it back into the horse it came out of : )

brucec32:
You're obviously referring to Budweiser, Coors, Miller and such.

Melissa is talking about quality, good tasting beer.

OK checked into KClingers....it is 2hrs 59 mins.. from home...are there any other tourist things to do in the area....maybe we could make it a weekeng gig....Research begins today....

OK figured it out...go to Gettysburg for an educational weekend; take an older age kid to help with babysitting..then drive to KClingers for the evening....only 14 miles....

Actually, Gettysburg would be a nice trip. Lots to see there--Eisenhower farm also.
Kclingers isn't far at all--14 miles sounds about right.
