No kidding...we ended up skipping adventurer's club altogether last trip. It wasn't because the beer choices were so bad or anything, we were just always too wiped out to go over. But I bet if they had some good beer we would have been able to find a second wind, if you know what I mean.

I haven't been to the Goodings in a little over a year, I hope that they haven't changed the selection after I've been recommending them-

Let me tease you guys--I just found a place in Hanover Pa.--Kclingers. It's a decent restaurant but guess what--40 draft selections (of which 2 or 3 change each week) and 622 (yes-622) different bottle selections!! And they'll sell an individual bottle for take home if you want to try something out!! Such as Austral Polar from Chile. Or Efes Pilsner from Turkey. or Fiddlers Elbow from England. or Midnite Sun Kodiak Brown Ale from Alaska. Or Grozet Gooseberry Wheat from Scotland. Or perhaps Rouge Honey Cream Ale from Oregon. And on and on and on---

So guess where we've eaten about the last 5 weekends in a row!!

But back to this thread and beer at WDW--sadly, it's dwindling down to the "usual suspects" and the standard "lawnmowing" beers. You really have to look to find places that go beyond the ordinary.

Hi all:

This is my first post. My DW encouraged me, since beer is kind of my forte (well, I actually get paid to write about it part time).

In general, Disney is no beer paradise (as all you DF (disney fanatics) are probably not surprised to hear). My suggestions:

*Crew's cup in the yacht club by far has the best bottle selection in Disney or the area. Add in that it has a few decent taps, a nice atmosphere and is ceegar-friendly, and it quickly becomes one of the best stops.
*Epcot - overall - does have a decent beer selection. The Rose and Crown is best, but oh will you pay to enjoy your pint of Guiness - $7-8 or so if I recall (and not even for an imperial pint)
*I'd like to say good things about the Big River brewpub in the boardwalk section, but the beers were pretty mediocre. They do have cask beer periodically, which might be worth checking out.
*Off site, the Orlando Ale House is good for some decent taps and pub food.
*Also Off site, I've never been, but it sounds like the best thing going in the area, the Cricketers Arms British pub. With 3-4 beers on the hand-pump/beer engine, and many British taps, and some good bottles, it's da beer bomb. Check out http://www.cricketersarmspub.com/ for more info.

*Off site liquor/beer stores - Someone recommended ABC, and I thought they had a decent selection. That expensive grocery store (Goodings) had some surprise Belgian selections, and OK beers. I think ABC was best overall.

Welcome to the site!! There a few of us "beer gurus" on the site. A lot of the info is over on the Restaurant board, so be sure to look there.
Your suggestions are all good ones. Crew's Cup is just about the best for a variety selection. But of course, a fair # of those are the usual suspects.
I read somewhere that over at the Hotel Plaza area at the Wyndham, there is a restaurant called Outback and a bar called Laughing Kookabara. Supposed to have 99 beers--can't verify that tho.
AS for the beer situation generally--just 2 examples, from Jiko's and Narcoosee's restaurant. Each used to have draft beer. Both got rid of it due to lack of sales, and the need to have more room for wine!!
IT's an uphill struggle, I'm afraid----.
PS-going back to Kclinger's this Sunday. Have "pre-selected" Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse, Degroen's Marzen, and Blue Moon Wheat Ale.

It's actually in my mom's hometown of Hanover, but we haven't been back in a while - i.e., since I knew of it, so I can't verify it firsthand.

The owners have actually opened up a second location in Pa - I forget which town though.

To get back to Orlando/Disney and beer, Florida has often been described as a "beer wasteland." Not entirely inaccurate, although there are exceptions here and there as has been noted.

One thing I don't know if anyone has mentioned is the Orlando Beer Festival in Universal held every year. There's not a time posted for this year, but it was in Nov. last year. Hundreds of beers to choose from. http://www.orlandobeerfestival.com/

The Cricketers Arms is just wonderful. I have been there twice while in Orlando, and I enjoyed it very much. I already told TandyR that I'll be hoping over there to try a hand pulled Tetleys. I have had their bitter in a can, and really enjoyed it very much. I cannot wait to taste the draught variety.

How about that 'good beer index' idea? I am willing to do the coordination and host it at our domain: http://www.lily.org/. Any interest in taking the first step?

What would be the first step to make a good beer index? I figure it would need to cover all resturants in "The World" and maybe a few shops in "The World" and then some stores and resturants in the Orlando area. Any ideas how to do this?

Along these lines, i figured somebody at WDW might already know--or at least have access to that information. Two phone calls and a letter got me nowhere--there seems to be no "central" lounge/restaurant operation at WDW and it seems each of these places acts on it's own.
What we'd need is a website (or webpage) to compile an initial list and then update as needed.
I guess the only way would be for each of us who are interested to bring back a beer list from whatever restaurant or lounge we visit. Maybe over time we'd accomplish the task.
Then--maybe there aren't enough of us who even care. After all, there are millions of Bud drinkers out there who can get that virtually anywhere--so for them no need for any list.

In the spirit of this thread, I have taken on myself to start the heavy training for my WDW Beer Research Trip this December.

I am starting with every beer I have not tried from my local grocery store. Last Friday I picked up six pints and have been drinking them this week. When I finish, it is off to the next store (Whole Foods).
