Hello,

My husband needs just a one-day hopper for DLR. I have our old 1994 WDW hoppers that still have a day left on them for both of us. Should I use his hopper for his one day at DLR? From reading the past threads, it seems like it would be possible to swap this one WDW day for one DLR day. Would it be for both DL and CA?

There is a bit of sentimental value in the tickets (they have our photos on them from 17 years ago!), but we could use the savings for this trip tomorrow!

Do your WDW tickets say non-expiring or anything like that on them? I'm not sure what the protocol is on tickets that old. If they take them, the general rule is if they were parkhoppers at WDW, they will give you a DL hopper. If it was a one-park ticket, you'll get a ticket for one park.

Yes, it says on them that they don't expire until all the days are used up.

I just scanned them in for my records case we use them, since they seem pretty rare to be hanging around so long :). I am trying to determine the best use of these old hoppers.

Yes you can use them at DL, you just hand them over at the gate and the CM will call over a supervisor who will take them, verify there is a day left and give you a DLR park hopper ticket in it's place. They might even let you keep them if you asked, I'm not sure if they need them for any particular reason. :)

Thanks for the info! Is this something better taken care of at Guest Services? Is there a Guest Services outside of the park? I wonder if seeing a 1994 park hopper will shock the CMs at the gate?!

It should be noted that the select Walt Disney World Resort tickets issued before the introduction of the Magic Your Way ticket programme in 2005, particularly the old paper tickets, may not be honoured for admission to the Disneyland Resort.

You can present the ticket at any Disneyland Resort theme park turnstile and see what they say. However, I would be prepared for the extreme likelihood that you will be required to purchase tickets.

Have an awesome time and enjoy our home away from home! :thumbsup2

To my knowledge, this is the correct answer. We did this when we got back from WDW for our honeymoon, although our passes were not that old, it was definitely worthwhile to use them at DL.

Please note though that of for some reason they are not accepted at DL, they will still be honored at WDW, since there is no expiration date on them.

Thanks. I think I will try and call someone in Guest Services/Relations while I am driving for many, many hours. Maybe someone there will know whether the ticket will be allowed or not. And like you said, I can always use it at WDW any time. I already have 15-16 days of non-expiring tickets for WDW for the 4 of us, so we would always make good use out of the day if I couldn't use it at DLR. Still, since he only needs the one day, it would be nice not to have to buy a whole hopper.

Can you please post after you speak to DL? I am heading to DL in August and have some unused WDW hopper tickets. I never even thought to check to see if I could exchange them.

I would think that glendalais (one of our wonderful, helpful Cast Member DIS'ers!) is correct in that there might be some trouble with this kind of swap on this particular kind of ticket and to be prepared for it just in case.:goodvibes

Not only should you call Guest Services/Relations/Communications before arriving, but in addition to that (because, let's face it - the Guest people don't always have the answers, or they sometimes give the wrong answers), to get a more accurate reply, have the Guest people call the Disneyland Bank. The Bank oftens answers questions for the CM's who receive questions about slightly unusual ticket transactions that they don't handle every day (for example, swapping multiple unused one-day/1-park tickets for 3 one-day Hoppers, or swapping multiple unused one-day/1-park tickets for one PAP - both of which I have done).

The CM's at the ticket booths or in Guest Communications will often say they cannot do this sort of thing - one of them even told me "We aren't really supposed to do this." But when they check with the DL Bank - which has the ultimate say, as the Bank can choose to view anything like that "as a money transaction" - they get the final word.

And then if a CM tells you no when you arrive at DLR, you can say, "I spoke with [so and so] in the Guest Communications office and they checked with the Bank, who said it is okay."

Does this mean that any tickets issued after 2005 will definitely work?

I think those are the only Disney tickets I don't have. I don't know if we had to give them up or what happen that I don't have the tickets with our pictures on them. Yes, I have everything from the first trip to the present except those tickets.

All worked out fine with the ticket usage! I called during the drive, and the Guest Services CM said it sounded fine, and to go to any turnstile. I asked when the kids and I entered CA through the GCH entrance, and the CM said to go to main gate which would be faster. Called DH after he landed and he went to main gate and got his new hopper. They would not let him keep the original ticket, what a bummer :sad1:, but oh well. In retrospect, not a great use of a whole day hopper with a late arrival and two tired kids and super tired Mom, but after 17 years, at least it did not get completely wasted.

Thank you for the update on the ticket exchange. This past week I called the Disney ticket phone # posted on the Mousesavers website to check on exchanging my tickets in this way. (I have tickets from the last couple of years, so they are recently issued tickets.) The CM I spoke with on the phone was adamant that this is no longer done, and that it was stopped about a year ago. I asked her to check for certain, but again, she said it was not done any longer. I gave up at that point and had decided to purchase tickets ahead of time, since I don't want to show up at the gate and be denied the exchange.

I'm still wavering on buying new tickets for DL. There seems to be so much confusion between the phone information and what really happens at the gate.

Tickets at DL are treated as "straight line" as opposed to WDW tickets which are "front-loaded" for pricing. If you have a valid DL ticket, unused or partially used, you can take it to a Guest Relations Office. They can look it up to see how many days you have used of the ticket. They will then cancel your ticket and apply the unused portion to the purchase of a new MYW (or AP) ticket.

The following is an example with completely made up numbers, as I am not aware of the actual selling price. If you had a five day DL ticket that had cost $200 that is $40 per day. If you had used two days the remaining ticket value would be $120. You would have to purchase, at the very least, a two day base ticket (or a one day adult hopper) to use the $120 and your DL ticket would be canceled.

If you want to use a WDW ticket at DL they will give you a one day for one day exchange, but you can only do one ticket per day per MYW multi-day ticket and the ticket they give you will be good that day only. If your MYW ticket is a hopper you will receive a hopper, otherwise you will receive a ticket valid for one park.

I used a 2002 WDW park-hopper for a day at both DLR parks, it was great! Confused the ticket-takers a little but it worked.

When I visited last May, I asked and was told that it's policy that they don't accept tickets from WDW as admission to DLR.
