9 people??

Where can we stay if we have 9? I've seen bay lake has one that takes 9. AKL has a notation that "most" can hold 9. Anyone know what that means? Anyplace else? Any feedback?

In DVC only AKV and BLT 2 BR's hold 9-pretty sure anyway. Grand Villas hold more. Allstar suites hold 9 I think.

Kidani opens 5/1/2009 and BLT is slated for 9/1/2009.

Currently you would need to get a Grand Villa somewhere (sleeps 12) for a party of 9.

Ages of the people is also a factor towards the allowed occupancy. Under the age of 3 and in a pack-n-play helps.

You are correct. AKV 2 bedroom villas at either Jambo or Kidani sleep 9 (they include a sleeper chair) except the value 2 bedroom villas which are only at Jambo. The value villas are smaller and a sleeper chair does not fit.

You might be happier booking two rooms. I see that there are five of you - so I'm imagining yo have another party of four. Sharing a room with another family for a week at Disney can get old really fast - even when you like them lots. Particularly if you are fitting nine into a two bedroom - the rooms are not large.

With nine in a two bedroom, you'll have two in the king in the master bedroom (they'll probably be pretty comfy), four in the second bedroom, three in the living room - one on the sleeper chair and two on the pullout sofa. That's a lot of bodies is a small space.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. We are indeed looking at going with another family. We were trying to cut costs a bit and still be on property. The thought being if we could share a two bedroom, we could split the cost, which would be about 1500 each, whereas two separate rooms would likely cost us alot more. But, we wanted to have the kitchen to help keep costs down.

It may seem odd to post this on the DVC board, but you might also look over on the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board to see what some of the off-property villas are like. You lose the convenience of on-site transportation in the middle of the day, and have to pay for parking unless you have an AP, but it might be more spacious for the two families.

Thanks, we are exploring a number of different options. We just were interested in a being on site if we could and short of being in a grand villa didn't see how it could work.

If you are planning to go after Kidani opens then a 2 br there will have 3 bathrooms so that may make things easier.

You can stay comfortably at any resort with grand villas - BWV, OKW, SSR or AKV. You can stay uncomfortably with 3 people sleeping in your living room at AKV...and eventually BLT. There will also be a bathroom for those living room sleepers, too (thank goodness).

But GV are difficult to get through CRO (Central Reservations Office) and not on points. And if you want a points reservation and you are not a member, you'll need to get a member as soon as possible to make that reservation - 11 months out may be the only way sometimes.

THV will also sleep 9 when opened but it's my understanding at this time, you'll need a member to book on points. I've been out of the loop and haven't been reading the board, but as far as I know, nothing has been said about CRO, so I'm guessing these are points only...?

IF you opt to do a single 2BR (at AKV, for example) I would request a lockoff. We are only a party of 6 (Me and DH, DD5 and DD3, and my parents) but we are going to do a lock-off 2BR (standard) at AKV in 2010. This way, my parents can have the studio portion (since they don't need 2 beds) and they can have their privacy too. My girls will fight over who gets the sleeper chair, (and then they'll both sleep in it together anyways) and DH and I will get the master bedroom.

If you did an arrangement similar to this (family of 4 in studio/family of 5 in 1BR) at Kidani, you will also have that much-needed extra bathroom in the living area. Depending on the ages of your children and how many can tolerate the sleeper sofa/chair, you should do OK. I agree that it will be crowded, but if you are trying to save on points, it is very doable.

HaHa, its funny how differently people think. What about all the much smaller studios with 3 or even 4 in them?

I would choose a one bedroom (which allows 5 if you bring bedding for the 5th person) and a studio. I know, it does not make sense but it does. I see that your son has asperger syndrome. He may need some alone time with just your family. You can still be together for meals, stay in the resort that you want and have privacy when you want it.
