9 lb dog - how often?

Hey, i have a 9lb chihuahua girl named Sissy.

Does anybody here have a 9lb dog?
if so how often does he/she need to go out?

i just want the answer to the question to see if there's anything wrong. I do NOT need any advice whether it be peepee pads or what not. Just a plain old number answer (ex: 3 hrs) will do.

I am fed up with people trying to help solve my problem by giving me advice/tips about how to make her stop peeing in the house. THanks but no thanks for extra help.

I walk her every freaking 2 hrs and then pees in the house 20 minutes after we get back in the house.

Just to follow rule #1.

I'd say every 2 hours, and then again 20 minutes later.

depends.. does she have access to water all the time? certain times of the day?? i have a (way bigger than 9 pound dog) and i limit her water (flame suit engaged!!) because i also have carpet.. i think it has a lot to do with her access to water, i'd say every two hours should be good though.

I have a 3 pound yorkie. She goes out every 3 to 4 hours during the day but she's good all night.

I know you said you just wanted a simple answer, but I just want to say chihuahuas are notorious for never being housebroken. Plus, they're little dogs and just can't hold it for as long as a bigger dog. I know it's really frustrating, I know, but often times it may just be the breed and not necessarily anything you may be doing wrong. And look on the bright side, atleast they're little puddles and not giant Great Dane sized puddles! (Again, I know you said you just wanted a dimple answer and sorry I wrote more, I just wanted you to know that it may not be anything you were doing.)

We have 7 lb Min Pin and she goes out 3 times a day. Once when we wake up to go the gym at around 5:00 AM, once when we get home from work around 5:00 PM and then once before bed around 9:30 - 10:00 PM.

She is crate trained (highly recommend) and has access to water at all times and she eats twice a day. She only has accidents if we fail to take her out during her normal times.

We have a 12 lb rat terrier. She "needs' to go out about every 6 hours or so, except at night, she sleeps through the night from about 10:00-6:00. She goes out more often because we have a dog door and a large fenced in yard and the dang squirrels are in HER yard.

If you are worried that something might be wrong, then a trip to the vet is what is needed.

You will get the answer you seek without the "extra help" that you are sick of.

If there is a medical reason, the vet can fix it. If it is training and/or behavioral, then you can start soliciting help to fix the problem.

Due to many variables that may be at play with your dog, you really cannot determine whether something is wrong or not by taking a poll of how long other dogs can hold it. Some dogs can hold it for longer than others. You are not going to be able to determine whether your dog just has a gnat bladder or has a bladder of steel with a bladder infection by taking a poll of what other dog's do.

If you are concerned - go to the vet

Just a word of warning, a discussion board will give you opinions whether you want them or not

I have 2 10 lb Chinese cresteds.

One can hold it a lot longer than the other.

My male needs to go out every couple of hours but he goes about 5 hours at night without going out. My female only needs to go out 3 x a day.

My male has severe emotional issues/rescue dog and it's not likely he'll ever be completely 100% potty trained as he has no problems urinating in his bed or right next to his food bowl (probably on his food bowl).

I know what you're going through girl! Our dog (who is a Chihuahua mix and weighs 10 lbs) goes out 4 times a day (morning, noon, afternoon, evening- every 4/5 hours) and he still pees. Sometimes right after we take him out. We chalk it up to how cold it is in the house, his anxiety level, and his age- he's 11. How old is Sissy?

Saturday, animal planet featured chihuahuas and said they are notorious for never being fully house trained.
That being said. I totally feel your frustration. I have a 5 lb yorkie who gets taken outside and walks right in the house and pees on the floor.
I read they should be able to hold it for 6-8 hours. My vet cleared mine of any medical problems. Actually said it was loneliness, I used to have a cat and a boxer, they told me to get another friend for him and that should take care of it. For now he gets to wear a belly band while I'm away so he doesn't pee all over my house.

I used to own a pet sitting business. It depends on the animal, it depends on the breed, it depends on the owner. I once sat a Yorkie about that size who could hold it for 12 hours. I went twice a day to let her out and she never once had an accident. My 50 lb basset hound once went 18 hours when it was raining and she decided she'd rather hold it than get wet.

So an animal that size can hold it, she may just choose not to. Stubborn little buggers.

Our 9lb Coton goes about every 2 hours during the day, but still goes about every 30 minutes in the evening b/c she is only 7 months old. It really doesn't matter how much we walk her b/c walks are exercise/fun for her. No matter what, we need to take a potty stop in the back yard or she will pee on the floor 20 minutes after coming into the house.

We have a 9 lb mini doxie, we have a dog door so she goes out when she wants to but I would say she "has" to go out every 4 hours or so. At night she holds it all night, but during the day she's in and out as she pleases. I estimate that she goes out every 4 hours to do her business, altho she's in and out a lot more then that.

13 lb chi mix here and she averages every 5 hours and is dry all night. She was a rescue and had many accidents along the way. We found she does best with a mile walk first thing in the morning. She does go out in the backyard when she needs, laying behind the palms and cacti. Our girl is 18 months old and looks like a chi/corgi mix.

Sissy is a spayed 3 year old chihuahua.
I did take her to the vet. no UTI but her pee was abnormally diluted so she is on anti-biotics. Then i'll need to take a sample to the vet from the am sample. (Somehow).

(I also apologize for violating one of the rules. I am open to advice but given the fact that people have always given me only advice and not an answer to my question in the past, i was just a little angry).

Sorry, I said that tongue in cheek. It isn't an actual rule. I read your post and could tell that you were angry and just wanted specific answers and then you proceeded to get exactly what you were angry about in the answers because if you give that much detail you will get input, good, bad, wanted or unwanted. I felt bad for you and was just trying to point out that the more details you give, the more input you get back. There have been many times I have typed out a whole story and then the reason for the post and then read it back and realized I need to get rid of the "story" and just post the question.
