9 days of yumminess on the DDP - 8/24-9/2! - Updated 9/26

Wow I see a visit over to AOA in my future to try the food, looks great. I love all the theming there :)

Just from my one visit, I think it's worth it for the food alone, but definitely to get to see the resort too. I also would have liked to have tried the Mongolian beef stir fry or the Tandoori shrimp.

We had breakfast again at Cafe Rix. I had a cinnamon roll and an iced Mocha and B had Frosted Flakes and orange juice. The cinnamon roll was pretty good but the iced Mocha was extremely weak and you could barely taste any chocolate flavor. I know a lot of people think it's sacrilege to have Starbucks in WDW, but honestly I will be very happy to have some decent coffee there. Overall, we'd give this meal a B.

We headed off to Hollywood Studios. The previous day when we'd blown off the House of Blues ADR, I wasn't sure what to do about needing another ADR and we decided to see if we could get an ADR at 50s Prime Time for lunch today. We already had an ADR at SciFi for dinner, but I thought if we got an early enough lunch it would be okay to have the two ADRs in one day. I was able to get one for 11:15, so this was perfect for us. I have to say I love the the new Disney Experience app, it was so easy to book the ADR through it.

We've been to 50s PT several times and I find that I either really enjoy myself there or find that the service is extremely slow and that it's too noisy and chaotic and I don't like it. This meal was one of the good ones. In fact, it was probably the best meal we've had there and a lot of that had to do with our server Donna who was fabulous. Not only did she really get into character, she was just super nice. This was also the first time B could order off of the adult menu and he was very excited about that. I got my regular meal here, the pot roast. It was really good, the meat was very tender, the veggies were perfect, the mash potatoes were yummy. B got the fried chicken with fries. They give you so much chicken, it was a half of a chicken, a breast, thigh, leg and wing. B loved, loved, loved it. He didn't touch the fries, but he went to town on that chicken.

While we were eating Donna had chastised me a couple of times for putting my elbows on the table. She had told us that if we got 3 strikes we'd have to stand in the corner and everyone would say "shame, shame, shame". To help me to remember to not put my elbows on the table, she came and put ketchup Mickey's in the corners of the table. B was doubling over with laughter at this. The family at the table next to us appeared to be first-timers at 50s PT and didn't seem to quite know what to make of this and seemed apprehensive at what Donna might do to them, lol.

For dessert, B ordered Dad's brownie sundae and I got the Boston Cream parfait. I usually get the sundae or the smores but Donna recommended the parfait saying it was her favorite, and she was right, it was really, really good. B was only able to manage a couple of bites of his sundae, but enjoyed it. It was funny though, to look at his sundae, it was hard to see that there was actually any ice cream under there.

Overall, I really enjoyed this meal. It was good food, good interaction with our server, and we seemed to be in a good location where it wasn't too chaotic and we weren't there for 2 hours like we've been during a previous meal. As far as B was concerned, this was his favorite meal of the whole trip. He was in love with the fried chicken and he thought Donna was great. I'd give the meal an A+, and B gave it an A+++++. :)

Hi
Great reviews!! My DGD is 9 and I think she'll love Art of Animation. The food court sounds good. Thanks for taking your time to share.

After lunch we spent a little more time touring HS and decided to use a couple of snack credits to get these cuties. :)

c36dc793.jpg

We went back to the resort for awhile, but came back to HS in the evening for our ADR at SciFi. We were seated in the back seat of one of the cars. There were some very tall girls seated in front of us and at first B couldn't see very well, but I switched seats with him and it was a little better.

This was also the first time we'd eaten at SciFi since they changed the menu. I used to either like to get the ribs or sometimes a burger. I wasn't sure what to get this time. I have to admit I was curious about the All American Picnic Burger (AllEars description - flame broiled Angus burger patty topped with grilled hot dog, sauerkraut, and sauteed onions, drizzled with ketchup, mustard and crowned with a pickle spear), but it just seemed like a bit too much. I decided to get the turkey sandwich (yes, I know another turkey sandwich, but I promise it's the last one on this trip). I was a little iffy with it because of the avocado mayo on it, but the taste was actually pretty subtle. I thought the sandwich was quite tasty, but not as good as the Plaza restaurant turkey sandwich. The multigrain bread was pretty tasty, but if it had been toasted it probably would have been better since it did tend to fall apart after awhile. The fries were good too. B got another angus burger, with bacon and fries. I know, we're sounding repetitive, I promise we did order other things, lol. He thought it was good too, but he preferred the one at Art of Animation.

For dessert nothing in particular was calling to us, so we both decided to get chocolate milkshakes. When our server had first come over he'd told us we could have them as regular drinks with our meal but could also have them instead as dessert. He also asked if we wanted them in to go cups which I thought was nice to ask, and we did get them that way. I think I drank most of mine, but B was too full for more than a few sips. They were quite good though. Overall, we'd give the meal an A-. The food wasn't quite as good as I think it was in the past, but we still love going to SciFi.

I wish the pics were a little better, but it was hard with the lighting. B made that ketchup Mickey himself.

Nothing very interesting to report for breakfast, we just had some more of the Entenmann's donuts. We headed off to Epcot, we toured Future World until 11:00 and then headed off to World Showcase. Our intention today was to visit all the countries since we'd only just gave a quick visit to Canada and the UK on our previous Epcot day. Shortly before we made our way over to World Showcase we decided to get a snack since we were hungry. A cookies and cream Mickey ice cream sandwich hit the spot! Mmmm….. We would give this an A. :)

Okay, now to our lunch. B has always been a fan of what we call the Stacy show. While he likes the Must Do Disney, we both liked it much better when it was the Top 7 Must Sees. He used to especially like the part where she would say Germany, Italy, Japan, yummy, yummy, yummy. But they kept the part of the show where she's in Germany and she says "Pretzel und bier". Instead of hearing it that way, B always hears as "Pretzel, root beer". So his idea was to have lunch in Germany at Sommerfest and to get pretzels and root beer, and that's exactly what we did. I got two pretzels and two root beers. I used two snack credits for the pretzels but paid OOP for the sodas. You could apparently get a bratwurst or hot dog as a meal and then get the pretzel as a dessert as I saw others doing, but we just wanted the pretzels and drinks. The pretzels were good, but they could have used a little more salt. We gave this a B+.

And here was B in one of the stores in Germany with his pretzel Mickey ears, lol.

We backtracked to Italy to have some Gelato afterwards. I have to say that this is way, way overpriced. It was two small scoops for $5.95. We got the chocolate and it was very rich. B also announced he had to use the bathroom asap right after I bought it and I was stuck with it by myself. I just kept thinking that I was stuck with a $6 gelato that I wasn't really hungry for and that it was busy melting while he was in the bathroom. Just on taste, I'd give the gelato an A-, but for annoyance at the price and size of the serving, I'd downgrade it to a B or B+.

I love that pot roast! The one thing I had wished for was more au jus. Yours looks perfect!

It was really good! I've had it other times where the meat was a little too fatty or not tender enough, but this was just about perfect.

PT 50s is the only place I eat fried chicken, it's out of this world good in my book and so is that pot roast!

My son would agree with you on the fried chicken! That was by far his favorite meal of the trip, he loved it so much.

We continued our walk around the World Showcase. I was so happy because when we got to Mexico, there was Donald posing for pictures! I love Donald at any time, but Mexican Donald is just so cute. We had dinner scheduled for Cape May Café so we continued around past Canada and the UK again to the exit to the Epcot resorts and walked over to Beach Club. This was an ADR that both of us were looking forward to. We both adore crab legs and B declared that he was going to eat a sea of crab legs and nothing else. We had a 5:00 ADR and got there a little early so B played in the arcade. About 4:45 we were able to check in and get a pager and we were called in just about 5:00. Our server took our drink order and off we were to the buffet.

B did indeed eat his sea of crab legs and I had quite a bit myself. I do think he didn’t eat anything else but crab legs. I’m not sure how many plates he ate, but he filled quite a few buckets with the crab leg remains. I also tried some fried shrimp, veggies, red potatoes, corn bread and a roll. The fried shrimp I wasn’t too fond of. The potatoes and veggies were okay, but the corn bread was quite good. But really, the crab legs are the main reason we go and they were goooood. :)

B really had no interest in dessert, but I got a plate with assorted desserts to nibble. All of the desserts were pretty tasty, although I thought the brownie and the blondie were standouts.

Overall, this is another meal I’d give multiple ratings to. Per B, and I would agree, it would be an A++++ for the crab legs. I would give it an A for the desserts, but just a C for the rest of the food. Oh, and our server who’s name I think was Wang, she was very nice and extremely attentive with removing the buckets.

We went to Downtown Disney after dinner. We were a little hungry near the end of the night so we picked up a couple of snacks at Candy Cauldron. B got a chocolate cupcake with white frosting. I got a pretzel stick coated with chocolate and mini M&Ms. The pretzel stick was so yummy! B gave his cupcake an A and I would give the pretzel stick an A+.

We had breakfast again at the Pepper Market. B didn't even bother taking anything but bacon this time (he's a boy who knows what he likes). I got a little assortment of items. The cinnamon roll was actually quite good, and I do like the corned beef hash a lot. We would give this a B+.

This was a Magic Kingdom day. We were mostly in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland on our previous MK day, so today we focused more on Frontierland, Liberty Square and Adventureland. We were in Liberty Square when lunch time rolled around so we went to Columbia Harbor House. I was really tempted to try the salmon on the menu, but went with a sure thing and got the fried fish basket. B got the fried shrimp basket. We got the standard counter service chocolate cakes with it for desserts. The fish was nice and fresh and tasty and B liked the shrimp. I ate the frosting off of the cake and B had a few bites. It wasn't a spectacular meal, but it was pretty good. We gave it an A-. What really gave us a laugh though was on line behind us a father was asking his daughter who looked to be about 7 or 8 what she wanted. She was looking at the menu and said she wanted cous cous with cheese sauce. The father pointed out that there was no cheese sauce on the menu, so she said just cous cous then. He asked her if that was all she wanted since the cous cous is only a side dish. She answered "and chocolate milk". There you have it, cous cous and chocolate milk, a classic pairing. :rotfl:

In the afternoon we stopped in Adventureland at Sunshine Tree Terrace for the best snack ever, and by that I mean the citrus swirl. Oh how I could write paeans to the glory that is the citrus swirl, that perfect combination of vanilla ice cream and orange slush, especially on a hot day. It is just heaven in a cup. If only I could be in MK now having one, ahhhhh. B was in total agreement with me on the citrus swirl nirvana and rated this an A+++++++. Yes, I have raised this child well.

Um. pardon my drool all over this post, this picture was just too much for me.

This is cruel! My DD and I waited in line for one of these and the machine malfunctioned when they were making one for the person in front of me. She got a disformed citrus swirl and when I asked for one they said the machine was broken and they couldn't sell anymore. We checked back but they were done the whole time we were there.

Oh, I would have been so sad if there was no citrus swirl available. And the whole time you were there, that's just wrong. Boo!

We had a 5:00 ADR at Whispering Canyon Cafe. Similar to the previous day with our reservation at Cape May Café at Beach Club, we got to Wilderness Lodge early so B spent some time in the arcade. He had also gotten really into looking for Hidden Mickeys and we had the Hidden Mickey book with us, so we looked for some at Wilderness Lodge before it was time to check in. We were able to check in a little before 5:00 and were seated fairly quickly. Our seating was strange though. Instead of being seated in the main area, we were brought back through the restaurant into an empty area. Since we were one of the first families seated there were tons of seats available out in the main area and I wasn’t really sure why we were seated there. I wish I could describe it better, but if you’re in the lobby and you see where the fireplace is, we were on the opposite side of it. Some of the CMs seemed a bit confused too and one jokingly asked us what we’d done to be seated so far from everyone else. Eventually some other families were seated by us, but it was kind of off-putting being so far from the main action. It also killed the fun of asking for ketchup since we weren’t really by other people. The next time we go, if we were seated there, I would ask to be moved. The one good thing was that there was a hidden Mickey in the fireplace that our server did show us and we probably wouldn’t have found it otherwise.

We both ordered the skillet. The previous times we’d been there, B had ordered either a burger or a kid’s skillet, but got the regular skillet this time as did I. We were both looking forward to this because we both love barbecue. I ate some of the salad and we both had some of the corn bread which B really enjoyed. When the skillet came out we both went for different things. I loved the ribs and B went for the chicken. I had a little bit of the pulled pork and really liked the mashed potatoes. B liked the brisket a lot. Overall, we both thought it was very yummy! And I always love the glasses that the drinks come in. You'll notice in the pic that I have two diet Cokes. Our server said that she wasn't sure if I'd ordered a Coke or a diet Coke, so she brought both, but then both turned out to be diet Coke anyway.

For dessert, our server rattled off a list of desserts and none sounded familiar from the last time we were there. I asked for her recommendation and she recommended the bread pudding with bananas foster sauce and vanilla ice cream, while B got make your own s’mores. I didn’t care much for the banana fosters sauce, but oh my that bread pudding was good. It was very dense and rich, with lots of cinnamon and nutmeg. B liked putting the s’mores together but found it mostly just made a mess.

While I can’t say I liked our seating much, that was the only negative about the meal. The food was excellent and our server was extremely nice and we gave this meal an A++. :)

Great positive review of WC! I haven't been there yet so I will have to try it on a future trip.
