Cruisers me, Phyllis, DH Jim and DD Natalie almost 10
Birthday cruise for me
I was up early on Friday to watch the docking in Nassau. I've always been amazed how the Captain can turn that baby around in the middle of the ocean, and back her up to the dock with 'nary a scratch on her!! Amazing. We had a wonderful breakfast at
Topsiders and used the day as a day at sea. It rained off and on all day...so we caught a showing of Lilo & Stitch(DD and I had already seen it, so I did my usual snoozies, DH had to punch me a few times..seems I was snoring) lol The rain did bring some
relief from the heat and DD and I stood on our verandah and watched soaked people going to and from all the docked ships,
The Wonder, SOS, The Fantasy.(See Barbs report on the mystery ship docked next to us).
At 5, Barb and I had ressies for LADIES NIGHT. Remember on my first post about the young couple I had met at the Sail Away Party? She was coming out of the Spa and ran up and hugged me..also holding up her left hand..for me to see a beautiful diamond engagement ring!! She was dancing all around me, so excited, saying, "you were right...you were right". Her SO had
surprised her by having some of their friends on board, they had all surprised her at Palos and he had popped the question in
Palos!! I never found out their names..but I surely do wish them the best.
Since Barb & Tony had spent the day in the Spa, I think...she was waiting for me. We chatted a few minutes and then we were wisked away to two wonderfully smelling rooms. I had the most wonderful massage..I have carpal tunnel in my arm and elbow(it's not called CT..but its the same thing) and the Spa Girl put some
wonderful gel on my arm and it did help. She then began to give me a facial..and don't get me wrong..it was great!!
And I know it's part of her job..but she began to tell me all this stuff I should do my face EVERY NIGHT..do this and then do this and then do this and then do this and then wait a while and do this. I was laying on this table, looking up at this very lovely, sweet, no stress, no hassle in her life, 20 something yo and very calmly I said, "Honey, I don't mean to be rude..I know I should do all of this stuff every day..but I barely have time to get in the shower every night..7 minutes..10 minutes tops is about all I can squeeze out. I have a very stressful and busy job, I have a 10 yo who has tons of homework and has to be transported all over town for her activities, a dh who actuallly likes to be fed and wear clean clothes(he does help out), I have a dog, a frog and various other demands on my time, so I don't think I'll be doing any of this anytime soon." I think she was very offended!!! So, to placate her(and she did not make a sales pitch to me at all) I bought the tube of gel she had put on my bad arm(and to make matters worse, DH had bought this same stuff on our previous cruise and later took the one I had bought back)!! I'm sure I was NOT her favorite customer of the day. I then joined Barb in the Rainforest and we were served champagne and a tray of to die for chocolate goodies. After spending 30 mins or so sitting in those wonderful Roman chairs and chatting with Barb, it was time to go and get dressed for dinner. When I got back to the cabin, a tray of chocolate goodies had been delivered to our cabin and I could barely keep DH and DD out of them. They went to Family Dance Night while I got dressed and we all joined our cruise mates in Animators for dinner. Barb and Kathy each brougt Natalie a goodie bag full of stuff and she was in heaven. I again had steak and BP, DH had the veal chop which he did not like(that is unusual for him) and we enjoyed the light show, as we did not get to see it on our last cruise. After dinner, we went up to the Nassau Sail Away and danced a little bit. I was still so out of it from my massage, I begged off early and went back to the cabin. DH and DD came in a short time later and we all crashed.
The next morning I was up early again to watch the docking at CC. We did Topsiders again and while we were having breakfast, it started to rain....a bad sign for the day!! We were off the ship as soon as we could, with DD running ahead to get chairs, a hammock, etc. Well, bless her little heart, she got like 3 lounge chairs, 3 beach chairs, an umbrella and 3 hammocks!!! After I assured her that we didn't need all of that equipment..she reluctantly let other people have our left overs!!! She then told me she was "just doing her job..like we asked"... lol You gotta love 'em when they are right!!! Her next job..was to get her
hair braided...so she and DH went off to do that, while I guarded and gave away chairs. They came back from hair braiding and went snorkeling. Now, it has been raining off and on all morning. At one point, the life guards came by and began to put the umbrellas down. I asked why they were doing that. They said they had just been notified from the ship that a storm was coming..they had seen it on radar. I told her that folded up umbrellas were like missles if the wind hit them and if they were left unfolded..they would just fold up inside themselves. She looked at me like I was nuts. By this time I had had it with the weather and since we live at the beach..its no big thing for us..we can go anytime..so we were back on the ship by noon.
We got dressed and went to lunch at PC. DD decided she wanted to go swimming and by the time she went to the cabin, put on her ss and got back up to Deck 9...the storm they had
prediced 2 hours earlier...finally hit!!! It was lightening and of course, everyone was out of the pools, so we played ping pong
for a while and then went back to the cabin to pack. DD had a spa appointment for the Teen Treatment..maincure, pedicure(which she calls a "foot bath") and facial. She was in heaven..being treated like an adult and having it done on the ship. I was not with her was part of it too. I, for some foolish reason went to play BINGO. I just should have taken a 20 dollar bill and flushed it down the toilet!!! I should have learned my
lesson by now. I have probably played 50 games of Bingo on
DCL and have NEVER won one cent!!! As stayed true this time.
It was after this that I had my "elevator encounter"(posted on another post somewhere on these boards). I collected DD from
the Spa and she was absolutely glowing!! We got dressed and went to see DD and then the adults to Palos and DD to the Club to make Flubber!! We joined our friends for a wonderful, festive dinner, with Christine as our server. I don't remember what everyone had...there was just too much food...I had veal, calamari and the souffle, of course. We said good bye to Barb & Tony who had an early flight home and would not be joining us for breakfast.
After dinner, DH and I did a little shopping and booked our next cruise. I did this to get the shipboard credit and a secret porthole room. So, even though December of 2003 is a longggg way off..it's something to look forward to. We collected DD from the club and walked around and enjoyed our last night on The
Wonder.
By the time we got up the next morning, we were already docked at PC. Our bill was stuffed under our door and we had not been credited with the gel stuff that had been returned. I had thrown all of our receipts, etc. into one of the now departed suitcases, so I had nothing as back up. I called GS and they said to come by after breakfast and they'd get it straightened out. So, we had a leisurely breakfast with Kathy and Alex, who were going to WDW for few days, said good bye to them and strolled over to a now
deserted GS. I explained my plight to a different GS person and after about 45 minutes of looking through receipts, they finally called the Spa and the manager remembered DH brining it back when he took DD for her appointment. GS gave me the money in cash and that was that. DD was upset because the customs agents kept coming to see if everyone was off the ship..and we were still standing there!! She was afraid we were going to be arrested!! As our luggage was the only luggage left in the terminal...it wasn't hard to find!! We were then outside, called Shirley, spent a little time with her, collected our van and then we were off for home.
We had a wonderful, short cruise. The only problem was with the elevators. The shows we enjoyed, we loved being with our
friends and cannot wait until December, 2003.
