9/23/06 Let's go!!!! Who's with us???

I'm up for meeting. I believe I read that Deck 10 is the best place to watch the Sail Away Party. Maybe we could identify a landmark on Deck 10 and meet there a few minutes before the party begins (let's say 4:20p). We could enjoy the party together and chat for a few minutes before the first seaters have to leave for dinner (we have late seating).

Yep, that 29 mark was pretty exciting for us too. I think that is why I am finally getting active on this thread. I am starting to get into the cruise spirit! How are the Texas temperatures? We are not too far away in Arkansas and we are finally seeing a cool down and the temps are in the low 90's. We have been mirroring your temps all summer so low 90's is a very welcome change around here. Lower temps mean are that much closer to the prize! :wizard:

Paula - I will be in a tux for formal night, so you won't be alone!

As for planning, we have done NOTHING! Cindy was on a business trip until last night, I will be headed to New York to compete in drum and bugle corps championships next week and then more marching events happen around here. So, we have too much stuff going on to pay attention to packing or planning.

I think we'll be OK soon enough. Anything that does not get done was not meant to be. It's vacation - the less mess, the more fun it is.

Happy packing all - our chain hit 29 last night! That's a fun psychological barrier to break through.

Great! So far the poll looks like this:

Day 1 4:20 Deck 10 for Sail Away Party
Day 1 3:00 Promenade Lounge
Day 1 Post Sail Away Party - location TBA

Any more additions?

Cool! I ordered a size larger than my normal size because it was 100% cotton so I have plenty of room. :rotfl: Not that I couldn't stand to lose a few ponds as well. ;) What night are you thinking about wearing the outfits? I can't decide. I initially thought about Pirate Night because they are tropical but since they are not Pirate-like at all I can't decide. "Tinkerbell" is brining my DD a pirate hat and patch for pirate night so we may just do the matching outfits another night.

I think we might wear the outfits on Pirate Night (if I can fit into it) because I read that some people do pirate attire while others do tropical. It really depends on what restaurant we'll be in. I hope we are in Parrot Cay on Pirate night.

Speaking of Tinkerbell, is anyone else doing gifts from Tinkerbell? I bought 4 Little Adventures costumes and matching doll costumes for my DD's Build a Bear kitty since she is not into dolls at all. I plan to give her an autograph book our first night at the Hyatt, the costumes, pirate garb and other small souvenirs all from Tinkerbell. Anyone else?

No Tinkerbell for us. My boys will be turning 18 and 13 on this trip. I don't think "Tink" is their style :rotfl2:

I am thinking about getting a gift basket delivered to the room...so many details so little time - YEAH!

I am seriously impressed you convinced your 13 year old to wear a matching outfit. At 13 I would have shot my mom a look full of daggers had she suggested that! :rotfl: Although, I think girls may be more snotty at that age. At least I sure was! :rolleyes1
ETA: I seriously considered the gift basket route and in your situation I definitely would, no doubt, especially since both your boys are celebrating birthdays! My reasoning for doing Tink instead of a basket is 1) I want her to nap aright after entering our stateroom and that will never happen with a basket. ;) and 2) I have been buying stuff like crazy so it is a good way to disburse it all.

We did matching outfits on pirate night as well. Might choose a different night this year, but we want a picture taken this year. I think we're beginning to push it with our eleven year old, but he's still eager and willing to dress like the rest of us.

vpalmer -- my wife's a scrapbooker. She has not done any scrapbooking since her father passed away last year so she has not done our cruise yet. She's actually talked about starting it before we leave next month. She has done some great WDW scrapbooks though.

I have shopped so much for this trip and bought so much Disney paraphenalia (sp?) that my youngest son said "Ma, can I have at least 1 shirt that's not Disney?" At first I thought "Why would he want that?" :confused3 but then I remembered I the Disney freak in the house so I agreed :rotfl2:

KSDisneyDad - We are in Parker, so just east of Highlands Ranch. I have a very close friend who also lives in Olathe, off of I-10. For the life of me I can't remember the neighborhood but it's more established and has 3 acre lots.

I am so glad to hear that people will be in formals. In the past 3 years I've lost 95 pounds and am now able to actually ware a formal dress so I really wanted to.

I think 3:00 or maybe 3:30 on the first day sounds fine. We don't get our luggage until 2:30, isn't it? So we'd have a bit of time to unpack. I really have no clue since this is our first cruise ever.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Paula :yay:

Did anyone else buy these matching outfits from Disney Shopping?

I almost bought them last year because I thought they were cute and inexpensive, but two things occurred to me. I knew I would have to take at least the dress to the seamstress if I did. Being only 5'1", if it's not a petite size, it has to be tailored. I might still have bought them, but then I saw the outfits in a couple other people's photo albums and decided the pattern would not be flattering on me or dd. Busy print on little people. Not a good "match".

I emailed them and asked them to contact the second highest bidder to see if they still wanted it rather than have the hassle of relisting.

We still haven't bought suits for the boys. If you can link me to the ebay page so I can see a picture, and if you don't already have a buyer, I'd like to take a look.

My feelings exactly. LOL

I was not thinking of doing Tinkerbell until I read your post. It gave me an idea. At first, my kids were not interested in dressing for Pirate Night, but last week we were in the mall and wandered past the Disney Store when the kids spotted POC costumes. They were totally into them! Only oldest ds has seen the movie, but all three of them have suddenly caught the pirate fever. Even my five year old daughter! I don't think I'll be shelling out 40.00 for the ready made costumes, but I think I'd like to surprise them with costumes nonetheless. No toys, gifts or candy or anything else, just costumes. Tink will have only one stop to make for us. It's tempting to have Tink do nightly or daily visits, but one is fitting with our lifestyle and with what we can afford right now.

We tried this on our last cruise. It was WAY too loud and crowded. I hesitate to respond negatively to an idea when I don't have a better one, but I wanted to share our experience from last year. We'll come no matter where or when it's decided. I just clicked on the thread and I see Valerie's creating a poll. Great idea.

Shopping - What am I missing? Am I the only one who doesn't need to shop? Besides a dress for me and suits for the boys, a couple waterproof disposable camera, and Piratewear for the kids, I don't think I have any shopping to do. I think we have everything we need right here in the house. We have summer clothes and sandals and snorkeling gear. We have luggage out the ears. We have brightly colored duct tape, an over the door hanger, toiletries and a medicine kit, walkie talkies and chargers and extension chords for our electronics.
What kinds of things are other families buying that I might be forgetting? We have our passports, travel insurance, copies of important documents, hotel, and travel arrangements. I've printed Cast Member appreciation cards for the end of the trip. We have lanyards for our kids' KTTW and a waterproof box type one that I wear.

Well, I've indulged for too long. I love thinking about, reading about, and planning for this trip, but the real estate agent is coming tomorrow to talk about listing our house, so I must get back to cleaning and decluttering.

Monica -- Our shopping list is fairly short right now as well -- some disposable water cameras for the parasailing, etc.; walkie talkies and magnetic paper. However, what is the brightly colored duct tape used for? That's not on our list -- yet.

Paula -- you might be talking about Cedar Creek off of K-10. I don't recall 3 acre lots, but it's an established nice area in Olathe. We too have lost quite a bit of weight (over 30 lbs for me and about 35 for my DW since last September) so we're looking forward to formal night (as well as semi-formal night, pirate night, Palos, Castaway Cay, Deck 9 adult pool, you name it!) this year as well.

Duct tape in general has a lot of uses for travelers. If you aren't familiar with why a lot of cruisers take along duct tape, I can clue you in or just do a search on duct tape on the regular forum. I don't want to embarass myself by giving you a lecture on duct tape just to have you say, "I KNOW that, but what's with the brightly colored tape." The brightly colored tape is good if you have luggage that looks like most everyone else's luggage. We have the most generic looking black luggage in America. It's easier for us to find our luggage, and not as likely to be mistakingly taken by someone else, when we decorate it with a few stripes of brightly colored duct tape.

I had a thought about our Disboard meet and greet -
Since the first day will be jammed packed and the second day will be in Key West, why not plan to meet on our first day at sea on Monday?

Thoughts? :Pinkbounc

This works for me!

Just watched the Magic set sail from the Port, Two Palms and Cocoa Beach Surf Company webcams for the first time. It looks rainy today. Rain or not, it's only four more weeks!

Here you go:

Alex will be 9 in December, and is quite tall but he has shorter legs. He can fir in it all but if he moves an inch evertyhing is going to split at the seams.

I am going to have to buy a size 10 and get it tailored to fit :sad2:
More expense!

I am trying to use the clothes we have without buying more just for the cruise. Just had to buy my 10 year old DD new shoes, as ize 6.5 ladies!!!!
I wish they would stop growing.

Angie, Spencer just turned 9, but he's still in a 7 slim, so I'm going to have to pass on the suit. It is a fine looking suit, though. I hope the other bidder took you up on the offer.

Last night, I had my first ever cruise dream, sort of nightmare. All I remember is I was in our room unpacking while Dh was in the port checking us in when the ship started pulling away from the port. Yikes!

Valerie, I don't know where to find the poll. Help, please.

I hope I don't offend anyone if I ask for prayers about selling our house. We are not in an advantageous position as sellers here. Dh starts his new job in Maryland the day after Labor Day. We stay here in NJ. We've done this before where dh has had to start a job in another state while we stay behind until we sell the house and he buys us another one, and it gets old fast.

It's great to have the cruise to look forward to during this crazy time in our life. :)
