9/19/09 Western Magic

Wow, am I late to the party or what?
Had no idea these forums existed....wish I had!
My DW? (I'm guessing the DW, DH, DS, DH, etc is Dear ___ )
My dear wife and awesome 2.5 year old daughter and I are taking our first Disney cruise. Not our first cruise, but first time on DCL.
We will definitely overpack, forget stuff and have no clue what we're doing based on what I"ve read here!

We booked really late for a lowest class room, but got double bumped to a ocean view fam room! (on the 2nd deck though but whose complaining! WE get the split bath!)

We will be leaving NC at the crack of dawn tomorrow and spending Friday night at the Cocoa Beach OceanFront Holiday Inn. Looked like they had a killer kids pool for my little peanut monkey! They also said I could leave my car there, yay!

Thank you everyone for the tips. One I wouldnt have thought of was to drive the wife and monkey over to the port and drop them off, go back and park the car and take a shuttle myself. I wish we had booked early enough to get on the FE list, sounds like a blast!!!!!

I welcome any other tips and any suggestions on where to eat tomorrow night in Cocoa Beach.

One thing I haven't figured out is the internet thing. I'll have my laptop and will have to check work emails a couple of times...DW mentioned that there was an internet package for like $100? Can I access that from my room? I'd hate to have to go to some cafe just to check email and look up Geocaches.

Oh yeah (sorry this is wordy, but compared to you guys I have several months to catch up on! :-) )... Any Geocachers on this cruise?? There is actually a cache on the disney island! Plan on getting one or two in each port!

Cheers!
Fred, Shannon & the Peanut Monkey

Welcome to the group Fred, Shannon and Peanut Monkey. We are a great group, just most have already begun their travels. I am in FL, so we won't leave until about 7:00 Saturday morning. Happy packing and traveling everyone.

Gabbie, thanks!

Does anyone know where I can find info on the meets? I'll admit it, it was between getting packed and reading 212 pages of posts....packing won :-)

We were thinking about bringing our Bob stroller....not sure if that exceeds some sort of limit or not. I think we are up to 5 actual pieces of luggage (including bathroom bag) and 2 carry-ons + diaper bag and DW's handbag.
Anyone know if carry-ons counts towards your "2 bags per person" limit?

Oh yeah, and our room# is 2528.

Cheers!

Webmeister: welcome to the group; better late than never. The luggage allowances depend on the airline. Southwest allows two checked bags pp., a handbag and carryon pp. If your daughter has a paid seat she is entitled to the same. I think they have the most liberal luggage policy. Of course if you pay extra you can check more. Be sure to keep luggage within weight limits.

LOL I just re-read your post and realized that you were driving. From what I have read there are no restrictions on luggage for the ship.

it's 0600, I am wide awake, DH is slumbering peacefully. doesn't he realize that we LEAVE IN SEVEN HOURS for the airport??!!!! :cool1:

all that is left is to pack all my meds in the carry on and some last minute tidying up.

See y'all tomorrow!!!!!

Welcome Webmiester and family!!! :cheer2:

What a rough night - not much sleep for me -- too much going on to sleep!

We'll be at Detroit Metro Airport in 2-3 hours!!!!! :thumbsup2

Hey all that are left still checking out the boards! I am enroute to Salt Lake (about a 3 hr drive) and will be flying into Orlando this evening... We left town about 4:45 am, I'm running on about 1.5 hrs of sleep, and even though I'm laying down in the back seat of the car, I just can't seem to make sleep come! I'm just too darn excited! See you all TOMORROW! ;)

We're loading the car now! Hitting the road in 24 minutes!
Should be at the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn around 6pm.
Safe travels everyone!

Hi...just checking in before I wrestle my dh out of the bed! Kids and I have already been to breakfast and I have been on the web for a bit!

SAFE and SMOOTH travels to ALL. Cops were out in full force last night...watch those construction areas especially.

Looking forward to MNSSHP tonight!

Paige enjoy your day today, and I hope you guys have a blast at MSNSHP. Tell Katie Courtney says Hi!! See you tomorrow!!!!:rotfl:

Safe travels to all!!

I hope everyone already at WDW had enjoyed their stay!!!

Sugar Butt and I are in Cocoa Beach now...Staying at the LaQuinta for the night... I CANNOT BELIEVE WE'RE HERE!!! AHH!!!! I'm a little overly-excited to say the least! Hahaha!

Had a little scare this morning, realized I'd forgotten to get my DL changed to my new name since we've been married and my airline tix were registered to me under my married name... UH-OH! I wasn't really sure if I could get by with a copy of the marriage license or not. Ran to the DMV to get the new license. I didn't have any trouble, but the photo...well, it's classic DMV material. Not that I'm really complaining, because I know come 40 I'll love this "problem" but I seem to be getting younger looking in every DMV photo... This is like my 5th since age 18, (between losing my license, it expiring, getting my motorcycle permit, motorcycle license, combining it with my DL and then getting it changed to my married name) I think I might be a slowly progressing Benjamin Button of sorts, Hahaha!

Anyway, I brought some extra supplies for a few of my FE crafts, and now I'm glad I did, because I noticed my count was off by 1 family!! Shew! Lol!

Welcome, webmeister!

I can't wait to meet you all tomorrow!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

-Ash

Well after 13 months of waiting we have finally made it, today is the day!!! See you guys in a few hours.

Yep it is time! We are going to get breakfast and then its off to drop off the luggage, DW and Peanut Monkey.
I looked everywhere and coulndn't find anything here or on the DCL website that said what happens 'at the curb'. I sure hope DW and PM don't have to stand there with our luggage and wait for me to go park the car and take a shuttle back!
(We're leaving our car at the hotel...free!!!)
Guess I'll see in about 3 hours!

This rowdy bachelor from Kissimmee is FINALLY packed and ready to roll. See y'all at the buffet!

So after all the rushing, arguing, accusations--another cage match--and about 36-40 hours without sleep.....we got up this morning, had a slightly too leisurely (sp) breakfast at the Residence Inn and packed out...my goal was to leave by 0930 but we were off just a few minutes:

"At least we beat the hotel shuttle" we both said to each other... :cloud9::love:

Got to the port and the first security weenie almost put the kibosh on things thanks to Chatty Cathy riding shotgun:
"Are ya'll cruising Disney today?"
YES!
"Is everyone in the car cruising?"
YES!
"Okay, just wait here a moment and she'll <pointing to uniformed guard> will get you taken care of."
(Chatty Gabbie...) He's going to drop us off and then return the car and come back...
"<Mental processes overload--fixate on 'Drop off'> Oh, well then you need to go over to area 5 and he can drop you off...""
<Me> "NO! We're ALL cruising today"
....

DW, having not worked in/for gov't service for years didn't realize you NEVER give a functionary low level govvie wonk more info than he/she can process because then it leads to 'unwanted' results!

Anyway, after getting him back on track we found out we were the 2nd car to pull into the terminal! :woohoo:

So I'm on my way to return the car and check the room for last-minute stuff... see you on board!!!
