I was wondering how likely it would be that DCL would change our itinerary from Western to Eastern Caribbean due to "Ivan the Terrible". Personally I don’t care if its Western, Eastern or we just sail around in circles for 7 nights, I am more concerned about playing dodge ball with a category 5 Hurricane and encountering a lot of rough sea's as I am very prone to sea sickness. I am stocked up with Dramamine but still a little nervous. Will DCL steer way clear or will they try to maneuver around Ivan in order to make all the original ports? This is my first Disney Cruise and only my second cruise in 10 years, the first cruise was a 4 night on RCCL and I got sick in calm waters so you can see why I am a little worried. BTW my DW got me hooked on this discussion group and you guys are great, we have learned so much from reading your posts.

Thanks

FF

Don't worry, the ship will give any storm a WIDE berth. Based on where the storm is now and its projected path, I think it's likely that you'll be diverted. Then again, it's still a bit early to tell. On Sunday, when the ship should be at Key West, the storm is projected to still be south of Cuba. You may be able to slip in front of it.

The Captain has access to the latest reports and projections, and will make the decision accordingly. The motivation will be to keep the ship (and passengers) safe rather than to make the scheduled ports.

One of my cruises was diverted a few years ago, and we never ecountered rough seas.

Officials are calling for evacuation of all tourists from Key West...a stop there sure looks very unlikely. I'm with you, Fish Finder...I, too, am prone to sea sickness. I don't care so much about the ports as about sailing on calm seas. Yikes!

As a poster on another thread put it - Disney is NOT going to point their Billion dollar ship in jeopardy, not to mention all of those people on board. They will steer around the hurricane not towards it.

Also there is a very good chance that Port Canaveral will not be opening by the weekend. Based on some things I read today, there is some dredging that needs to be done, and I don't see how they can get it done by this weekend.

Relying on past experience - DCL will give Ivan a wide berth as already mentioned. So pack for a unique adventure!

Remember that the Captain is not only concerned with your safety, he wants you to have an ENJOYABLE and COMFORTABLE cruise as well.

I have no idea what's in store with Ivan the Terrible but I'm sure you'll have a great time.
