9/11 Anniversary - Anyone who still won't fly?

I fly and was flying again as soon as they had the airports open and running as I had to travel for work.

I hate flying in general, which sucks for me since we have to visit my in-laws in Europe from time to time. I'd take a boat, but I get sea sick :crazy2:

We flew to Europe pre-9/11 and found security to be tougher then. Our last flight was on SAS to Copenhagen and security wasn't that tough. Leaving Paris was a breeze, though they did x-ray all our luggage after they took it.

Part of me should be nervous about flying in a few weeks, but I'm not at least not about safety issues. I'm more nervous about flying with three kids for 5 hours! I guess if I can do two kids for 9+ hours I can do this!

I've never loved flying, but I've always appreciated how quickly I can get somewhere. So I did it before 9/11, and I've done it since.

I HATE flying, before 9/11 because it's cramped and the air is icky and I always get a head cold from it. After 9/11, just plain terrified. Cannot imagine dying like that, never mind with DS (6) with me. DH has convention in Anaheim first week of October. Has convinced me to fly with DS (6) to LA and back. Stupidly agreed, now having panic attacks. Looking for way out without actually using my terror as an excuse...

I just flew to Israel on El Al airlines and I was amazed by the security checks we went through to get on the planes. It was so impressive. IMHO the US airlines could stand to foloow some of thier examples a bit more closely.

El Al has the best security in the world. One thing they do that we don't is profile. If you look like a person that is going to do something they yank you out. If you are traveling single woman and therefore more vulnerable to threats, they pull you out to verify who you are. They profile all the time and it works. Unfortunately if we did that in the US there would be a whole bunch of whiners telling us how their rights have been taken away.

To answer the OP, I never liked flying. Flying after 9/11 makes me no more worried then before. I still don't get unnerved of possible terrorists onboard. I'm too concerned that the wings are going to fall off. I will be flying in 22 more days and not looking forward to it but if it gets me to WDW faster, I'm there.

I'm not a hufe fan of flying, as it's long, boring at times, and I'm not a fan of airports. But since teleportation ain't an option :p, I keep flying.

When we flew home from Paris recently, the security was much more stringent than we've experienced from any American airport within the past year.

I have always been afraid of flying. Actually, falling. The last time I flew was October, 2000.

I have to attend a seminar in Atlanta at the end of the month and I'm driving. I just don't feel comfortable at the thought of getting in an airplane. There's just too much going on right now and I just have a fear that something is going to happen before the election.:(
