What type of dresses are the girls wearing to the 8th grade dances?
When I went to mine (many years ago!) we just wore a regular dress. Like for church, etc.
My niece is shopping for her 8th grade dance dress and it seems more like the senior prom!
Do the girls were gowns?
TIA
Missy

It all depends on what the "norm" for her school is. When I was in 8th grade, all of the girls wore short dresses. We didn't put TONS of effort into it. Yet I know of other schools where the kids act like it's prom lol. If your niece is unsure of what to wear, she should ask around and see what types of dresses everyone else is getting. Hope that helped some! :)

not at all! i only went to one dance in my middle school carreer and it was the 8th grade final dance, and i wore a knees length black and pink dress with flowers (i loved it!) and most wore bright, short dresses. princess: hm, ask to make sure that she knows its that fancy, but its probably just what the kids want to do to feel like its more....important? formal? high schoolish? i dont know the right word!

My dress was just a simple sleeveless yellow dress with flowers on it. My sister is in 8th grade this year, and she just got a letter saying how the girls should wear age-appropriate dresses, and no prom-style dresses. But I doubt that will keep some girls from going overboard.

When I was in 9th grade we had a formal dance, where I wore a formal dress.. but it was a FORMAL dance. I would ask her to see what information they gave out about the dance.

my dress is pink and it is short and it has rhinestones accross the top and the cut is straight and i got clear sandles for it it is also a skinny strap

I don't know what kind of dance it is, but I am in the eighth grade and the girls usually just wear a nice pair of jeans and a nice skirt, something comfortable to dance in.:earsgirl:

Well, Thanks for all the help. But I think we got our answer. My niece came home from school today and said that the vice principal said it is the 8th grade PROM! Boys are renting tux's.
Seems silly to me! I think the formal should be saved for senior prom. That's what makes it so special!
Oh well........

I didn't even go to mine. I went to 2 dances in middle school and both of them girls wore prom dresses. I saved the prom dress thing for prom. I hated middle school.:o

Wow...so many people wear dresses....our dances are Middle School dances not just 8th grade dances and we have about 6 a year....or more...and all we wear are jeans and a shirt....or carpris and a shirt....or shorts and a shirt depending on the weather...The only one that we ever got dressed up for is our Christmas Dance and Every year I have gone to the dances we just wore a short dress or a short skirt!:D

i wore a short red dress with glittery flowers and things on it. so cute but not necessary to spend lots of money on it. i got mine on sale for 20 bucks at jcpenney and i thought i looked really nice and there were some girls that spent 100 bucks and looked horrible. and wow :earseek: you are only in eighth grade!?!?!? That sucks!

wow ours is just a semi formal i dont think they should have a prom cuz that just takes the fun out of the senior prom in HS

I'm in 8th grade and we had a semi- formal dance in the winter. Then on June 10 we are having another more formal dance.

No one had a gown. Manily everyone's dress ended at the knees and was black.. probably wouldn't get black if she wants to stand out.;)

I wouldn't go to a dance so I can't help you with this one!
