8 weeks to get a new DVC card? Cripes.

Mine is pretty worn so I called to get a new one for New Years week. Might need it to get our AP's. He said 6 to 8 weeks. I said "no, not a passport, a DVC card". Didn't really laugh so I said never mind. Does it really take that long?

It can. You can always go the the DVC Sales Center @ SSR and get a temporary card.

I read before that they farm this out and wait until they get a batch of cards to meet some minimum order quantity or price break or something -- not sure if that's true, but that's what someone posted in the past.

I hope not - mine went through the wash and I called for a new one about 2-3 weeks ago now. We leave Saturday and here I sit withjust 1/2 of my DVC card!

Been there, done that - we bought through resale and everything took a while to get through the system, phoned MS and found out our membership number then went to SSR and they printed us some temporary cards which lasted for (I think) 3 months.

Very quick and as you already know your membership number it's even easier!

Yep, it can really take that long. I needed to replace both of ours, since the numbers were all worn off. I knew it would take awhile, so I called and ordered them, and low and behold they were here in 10 days! That is probably an exception though. Murphy's law says if you NEED them soon, they'll take a long time.

If you have already ordered them and they don't arrive before you leave, just stop by the sales center and get a temporary one to use on your trip.

I read that here too.

When I ordered my new cards, they came within 2 weeks and I was shocked!! I guess my order was in the tail end of them filling the order.

I had to order a new card this summer. They told me 6-8 weeks, but if I recall correctly, I got it in 2 weeks.

However, with mail back-up at this time of the year and other elements concerned, who knows.

Good luck.

I called about 2 weeks ago for a new card because I had washed mine too. I just got it over the weekend.

You can go to SSR and get one at the sales center. it is a tempopary one but it will work until you can get your new one.

They can print out room keys with my name on it right at the resort check-in desk, but they can't manage printing out DVC member cards? Seems like a waste of DVC $ to farm this simple task out.

I mean come on -- a bank can issue a new credit card with a mag strip, and your name stamped INTO the card in a matter of days, but it takes 2 months to get a new DVC card that looks like I printed in on my DeskJet and laminated it?! Something doesn't seem right.

If there is one thing that Disney does right, it's save money. If it's cheaper to do something in house, they will do it. You would be surprised to see the list of items outsourced, even funnel cakes. :confused3

I ordered one so we will see how long it takes. Mine will work for now-it's worn and cracking in half to the point I have it taped. We leave Dec 28, it might make it as some have said in a couple weeks. Thanks for the input.

What is the card for?

It's your DVC membership card to prove you're a member! You need it for various discounts and things, special events like the DVC Merry Mixer this month, valet parking @ DVC resorts.

The machines used at the front desk are quick and effective, but that technology is not suitable for the long haul. The ink is pressed to the card, but it will flake-off and deteriorate over time.

The DVC member ID cards are like the credit cards you describe above. The member name is actually embossed on the card. My cards are 6 years old now and aside from some of the ink rubbing off of the embossed name, they are still quite functional.

There are companies who will print in bulk for pennies plus the cost of shipping. For DVC to bring it internal they would have to purchase the equipment, maintain supplies, assign the task to a staff member, handle the distribution of the cards, etc. Unless the volume is significant enough, that's a task better farmed-out to a professional in that area.

.

They aren't any more.

Mine is just laminated paper and the lamination is already coming off after less than a year.

I wish they still used the real credit card format!

Well that stinks!

Guess I'm going to have to take better care of my plastic cards.

Between this change and all of the people here saying they have gotten replacement cards in 2 weeks or less, it could be that DVC has moved the process internal. I'm certain that they were outsourced when the cards were embossed, but they may be printing the new format in-house.

We needed new cards during our vacation this past November. Went to the DVC centre at SSR and were issued two new cards immediately. There was no indication that these cards were temporary. They are a slightly different colour from the originals (a little bit lighter) but in all other respects exactly the same.

I was very pleased with the ease of helping us out.
