Hi guys,

Ive recently started watching '8 simple rules' and I absolutely LOVE it. Im slightly confused as to the storyline though because ive began watching half way through! What happened to the father in the show? How did they write him out and what happened in real life?

He died in real life and they had him die on the show also.

I used to watch the early ones, but missed a few when he died so cudnt get bck into the story line

i love 8 simple rules, it was really sad when john ritter died.

I have watched this show from day one. John Ritter, who played the dad, actually got very sick on the set of the show and was rushed to the hospital but didn't make it. They decided to continue with the show but instead of having someone else play the dad they thought it would be more respectful to have him die on the show also. The grandpa came then for the funeral and just decided to stay with them, I guess. CJ, David Spade's character, came a little after that. So, hope this helps clear it up for you.

I used to really like the show. But it just isn't the same really.
They had him ddie of a heart attack in a super market while getting some batteries.
