I just got the new copy of Consumer Reports magazine. They rated 8 o'clock as their #1 pick for flavor and price. Between that and the podcast conversation I'll have to give it a try.

We usually get 8 o'clock and I like it. They also make flavored coffees, but I would just stick with the regular French roast. :)

I just bought my first bag this week. Luckily it was on sale too :thumbsup2

It's quite a nice cup of coffee and considering the price difference between it and the "gourmet" blends - I think I'll be buying it from now on. Thanks Pete for putting us onto it.

Whaddaya know? Pete's got his finger on the pulse of consumer best buys. :thumbsup2

Flashback! I use to look forward to the trip to the local A&P with my dear grandmother and grinding the coffee! I'm going to look for 8 o'clock coffee this week at my local market!

I always though Pete had good taste!:coffee:

8 o'clock is the best I grew up on that stuff :thumbsup2

When I was young like 8 or 9 my grandfather used to fix me up a nice cup of 8 o'clock and give me some of those Milk Lunch crackers best combo ever!!!

ohh and when Pete mentioned A&P it brought back another memory of my grandfather he used to always tell this wicked cheesy joke to anyone that would listen:

"Did you hear that Stop & Shop bought A&P..yeah they are going to change the name to Stop & P"

Urrgghh horrible joke I know but I had to say it after all if he were here he sure would have :)

make sure you buy it in the store where they have the grinder right there... it's the best and I LOVE the smell of the fresh ground coffee!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I'll admit, my love of 8 o'clock coffee has something to do with those trips to the A&P as a kid with my father. He was a SERIOUS coffee drinker - it could be 100 degrees outside, and he'd still be drinking his coffee! It's a toss up between the coffee and the peanut butter and ham sandwiches for 'best comfort food that reminds me of Dad" :)

You will NEVER see me without a coffee in hand. I have one with me at all times. I am into coffee mocha right now. Starbucks is my bad addiction at the moment. But even at WDW, is 100 degrees, you will find me drinking a hot coffee. I guess... "I got it from my mama" ::yes:: I don't remember a moment without her having a coffee in hand. Now at 70, she is still going strong and even has to get 2 smalls because she hates the styrofoam medium cups and "must" have the regular cups :rotfl2: So not only are we addicted, we have freakin' demands too :rotfl:

and LOL my mom did the peanutbutter and mayo sandwiches!!!! (its not bad really )

Pete, I have a question for you about the 8 o'clock coffee... you mentioned in the podcast that you had to use the right amount of coffee. How much do you use, for say an "8 cup" pot of coffee? That's my biggest problem with coffee, it's hard to get the proportions right for the coffee you're using.

That's not the first time that consumer reports rated Eight O'clock coffeee as #1. I was thinking about that when I was listening to the podcast.

I'm one of those people who hates the taste of ANY coffee.

However - I do like the smell of it, and I also have fond memories of helping my Mom grind her own at the local A & P.

I will be checking out Eight o' Clock coffee. DH and I are real coffee snobs and have fallen in love with Ethiopian Yergacheffe French Roast, but it is rather pricey and hard to find.

I used to work for Corporate A&P in COFFEE... can you imagine what my office smelled like??? We had a grinder there for all the samples the salespeople were taking out... and of course... our Dept. had great coffee... (and me... the tea drinker...:rotfl: )

I saw that article in Consumer Reports as well, plus "my Publix" had it on sale 'BOGO' this week. So I thought, 'what the heck' and tried it.

Oh my !

It's *really* good ! All these years I always thought of the brand as...I dunno, 'old people coffee', or something. Which of course makes no sense.

The grinder on my coffee machine wakes me up every morning, and I swear this brand smells and tastes better than others that cost three times as much.

I'm hooked. :coffee:

Wow talk about a blast from the past. For our family it was peanut butter and bologna sandwiches. Served to the kids with Pepsi!!:thumbsup2

The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company--once the very king of grocery stores in my neck of the woods--where is it now? Not a store anywhere near us, tho I still think they are operational as a company.
Also remember with that 8 O'clock they also had a brand called Bokar (sp?). It might have been in a black bag.
Anyway, its what my grandmother used to get when she shopped A&P in the late 1940's.

A&P is still alive and kicking... mostly in Jersey and NY... but it is also known as Kohls in the midwest, Farmer Jack, and Super Fresh...

Bokar was my favorite 8 O'Clock coffee during grad school. You are right! It was in a black bag. I have not seen it recently in stores near me. :( I usually buy the "100% Columibian" instead now. Do you remember when not too long ago WDW advertised 100% Columbian coffee at their counter service locations? The coffee was not too bad then. :coffee:
