Recently returned to the real world from an 8 day, 7 night [October 19-26, 2010] in the greatest place on earth.

A little background on us;

ME 35: civil maintenance manager for a large urban area in SE PA.
DW 33: registered nurse
DS 5: thoughtful, sensitive, son who analyzes everything and is extremely attentive to detail. His favorite character is Mickey Mouse.
DS 3: the classic middle child syndrome type. Wild, rambunctious, comical, and adorable. He drives you crazy and makes you laugh in a span of 5 minutes. He's the one that will give us gray hair. His favorite character is Donald Duck, but he's more like Stitch.
DD 1 1/2: the little princess, who already knows it. She displays a lot of the same behavior as our middle child...yikes! By far, the only characters she really lightens up to are Donald Duck, and her favorite, Snow White.

Day 1: woke up at 3AM after 3 hours of sleep to get the kids up and pack the carry-on bags into the family truckster for the trip to PHL. Main suitcases and strollers were packed the night before. We needed to get to the airport by 5AM for our 7AM flight, but getting the kids ready took longer than anticipated and we weren't on the road until 4:45AM. Fortunately, because of no traffic or construction on I95, the normally 30-45 minute trip took less than 25 mins. After dropping the wife, kids, and luggage, I parked the car and checked our luggage by 5AM. The security checkpoint had a huge line. Uh-oh, but fortunately PHL learned to create a family line. As soon as we got into line, we were diverted to the family line and were through the checkpoint in less than 10 minutes. An additional change from our last trip was that PHL TSA staff were courteous, patient, and friendly. Oh, and for the 3rd time in my last 6 flights, I was subjected to a random patdown and wand check. Got to our gate by 5:50 AM and grabbed breakfast. For those of you visiting Terminal D, stop by Chickies and Pete's for the Mayfair breakfast sandwich. Cherry peppers, eggs, and cheese on a long roll. Outstanding start to the day. Plane left at 7:05 AM, rainy and in the fifties, but we knew sunny skies and 80-degree temps were only 2 hrs and 20 mins away. And away we went.
