I've seen people mention the 8 day park hopper but can't find where you buy it for Disneyland. The most I've found are the 5 day hoppers? Is this just a WDW option?

Thanks
KC

Might as well buy 1 AP and get the savings on food for 60 bucks more.

Thanks. Is there any inconvenience to these? I'm assuming it is an online ticket you print out and exchange at the gates? I've seen some people post hassles with not receiving vouchers they've purchased from different venders?

I will have an annual pass. But, need to buy hoppers for my husband and my two sons. We're planning to upgrade my son's to APs but not my husband.

We'll be there Monday - Sunday so an 8 day would be better than the 5 day. If we do the 5 day, we have to sit Monday out so the boys can upgrade their passes on Saturday and avoid the blockout charge. And, my DH will only get to go 5 days rather than the full 7.

Thanks
KC

With GAT, you don't bring anything to the park but ID and the card you used to buy them. They mail you a receipt, but you don't need to bring that. Easy, but I assume it would feel a bit scary! :)

Bumbershoot, thanks for your clarification.

We bought 8 day park hoppers from GAT for our upcoming trip. And I have been waiting for a package. Silly me.

The reason why we get the 8 day parkhoppers and not the AP is because we only get to DL every 2 years. Every other year we go to Hawaii for vacation and our budget just won't allow us to do both. Because we live in Washington State we cannot just go for a weekend to DL without incurring plane fare, hotel, etc. Even a weekend becomes a major vacation event.

So for us, even though it is only $60 more per person (well, it really would be $240 total for all 4 of us), it still doesn't make sense money wise. I have played it all out in my head a 100 times...even with discounts for food, we would not come out ahead by getting AP's.

But, I will say we LOVE our 8 day hoppers. It allows us to go into the park every day we are in Anaheim, even the partial days of coming and going.

For us it is a wonderful option.

We leave in 15 days and I totally cannot wait!:woohoo:

Even if only 1 is an AP you still wont come out ahead for food discounts

bluegrizzlies1 - Thanks for the validation :)

Plus, we don't stay on-site every time (again, watching the budget) and with GAT you get 2 MM's - which we wouldn't get with AP's. Not a huge deal, but it is really nice to have.

Tink, I think grizzlies meant to have a question mark on the end of the sentence.

Depending on length of stay, how many in your family, and your eating habits, that 10% *could* add up fast and overtake the $40 extra for the one deluxe AP.

Now that would probably only work if the AP holder gave up one or even both MMs (b/c you would want to upgrade as fast as possible to maximize the discounts); is there a late sleeper in your family that would like to meet you after normal opening? :goodvibes

And of course IF you are parking every day that adds up too with an 8 day stay, and the Premium includes parking and has 15% food discounts and 10% merchandise discounts, so if you haven't included all of those (especially parking) in calculations for just having ONE person upgrade to that highest level of AP, it's worth doing.

You guys are great...I have struggled with this for a while. Thanks for all your input and information - I know everyone here wants to get the best deal for their family.

I know that if you are spending a lot in the parks it could be worth it to buy an AP. I would give up my MM in a heartbeat if it was going to save me cold hard cash.

The 8 day hoppers from GAT were $204 each, AP is $269, a difference of $65.

To break even we would need to be spending at least $650.00 on food and shopping with a deluxe AP. We don't pay for parking, we stay either on-site or within walking distance. When I have totaled it up in the past, we don't come close to spending that much. We always eat breakfast at the hotel, and bring lots of snacks into the park and sometimes sandwiches. We do one Character breakfast and lunch at Blue Bayou. I have the Disney Visa and AAA and take advantage of all discounts when and where I can.

If we were eating all our meals in the park and paying for parking it was easily pay for itself to upgrade to an AP. No question.

If we lived closer I would upgrade in heartbeat! If you can drive to DL for a weekend - I would go 4 or 5 times a year.

Again, thanks for all your input and if I am being "boneheaded" (wouldn't be the first time!) let me know! LOL!

No, I don't think that you are being boneheaded, but rather budget minded, nothing wrong with that, bumbershoot, really makes good sense for the savings, but in the end one needs to figure out, what will work out best for them, and their particular situation. Maybe, there will be a move to Ca. for you and your family in the near future? then the AP's would be great for you.
In the meantime, maybe one AP, would be a good idea? for the savings, even if it was the reg. and not the deluxe. hmmmm?

The only two available for non so cal residents are deluxe at $269 and premium at, er, more than that. :) (379 before the price change)

Any of us who urge looking into an AP are really urging that the person seriously look at it, and not make a snap judgment. Until a person says "oh yes I looked into it heavily" we won't KNOW they did so, and so will urge that plan of action until we know that they've done it.

I just answered someone's question who went in May and is now going again and wondering if they can upgrade to an AP...if only they had talked about it in May so we could have urged them to seriously look at their plans, to see if another trip inside the year was a possibility. Those of us who are pro-APs (and SeattleTink, you might want to check out my location and my # of trips this year in our Year of Disneyland) don't ever want someone to upgrade just b/c we told them to, but we don't want someone to not really do the math and skip the AP when it would have worked out well. :)

Worse, with a deluxe you have to spend 650 just on food.

Since you don't park there, that takes quite a bit out of the reasons to get a Premium, but I had to make sure you knew it, just in case. :goodvibes

Sounds like your eating is like ours, and our eating habits haven't made our Deluxe APs worth it this year. But with the number of trips we have taken (and I took an extra one) this year we've made up the cost in tickets (of course the question is...would we have taken all these trips without the AP? :rolleyes1 ). My point is I can understand not making up the cost of even one AP with food!

Just wanted to make sure you knew yourself and your family.

Of course, you have until your last day in the parks to decide if you're coming back inside the year...;) Did you know there's a ladies only trip in March that I'm planning on going to, and I think a couple other Seattle-area peeps are going too? :rolleyes1

I really do appreciate the input. I read these boards a lot and know that often people aren't looking at the "big picture" :)

I have been lurking for about the past 6 months and have learned a lot from all you very wise people. I love to research and comparison shop - but I do acknowledge there is always more to learn.

I cannot say I am still not tempted to upgrade to AP....like you Bumber it would prompt more trips I am sure!

It isn't out of the realm of possibilities once we hit the park and "Remember the Disney Magic" I joined this board just as the other ladies trip was happening this past year...I would love to go on the ladies trip in the Spring. If we upgrade I will have a hard time not going on that trip.:goodvibes
