8:45 last night I hear a pounding on my door, dh and I were allready in bed as were all of the kids of course, I run to the door thinking there was some news about our neighbour who was rushed to the hosiptal yesterday. Nope, it the 3 YEAR OLD boy down the street wanting to know if Cameron can play!!!

Can you believe that??? He woke up everyone in the house I was LIVID!!!!

his brother ( who's 11) said " oh we just got back from Vacation, I guess we should get ready for school tomorrow"

WHAT?????

I understand wanting to run around a bit if youve been cooped up in a car but WHY would you let your kids go pounding on someone else door at that hour during the school year? ESPECIALLY a 3 YEAR OLD???

grrrr OK Vent over. Back to your regularly scheduled surfing.

Yeah, 8:45PM is a little late to be coming over to play even for a weekend. My 6yo bedtime is 9 and 11yo is 9:30. I'm usually up until at least 11, but when my kids were 3 they were in bed between 8 and 8:30. Then of course there is my flakey SIL, whom I could write volumes about, that lets her kids do whatever they want. Her 2 oldest are the same age as my kids and she has called me before at 10:30 or 11:00 PM and her kids have still been up - ON A SCHOOL NIGHT!! My kids have the same bedtime year round regardless of day of the week. There are exceptions (vacation, special events, etc), but I just think it is better for them to stick with a routine.

I'm just amazed that you can actually go to bed by 8:45!!! Bedtime here is hecktic and I usually don't get to go to bed until after 11.

LOL well that wasnt a normal time for us, dh and I wanted to watch Law and Order season finale last night so we turned in early to watch it together.

Bed time for the kids though Im really strict about!
The girls are in bed by 8 and Cam has lights out by 8:30 no later than 8:45

Were in Central time though too so all the shows are on an hour earlier here. Prime time starts at 7 pm here instead of 8 Were usually in bed at 10 and we go to sleep after Lenos monologue by 10:45 ( dang I feel old lol)

I was amazed at a 3 year old being allowed to go out at that hour...but what amazed me :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: even more was that you were in bed...I don't get kids down until after 9:30 then my 12 year old it's about 10pm....So, I don't get down until 11pm...

i usually go to bed right after Leno's monologue, too. but I live on the East Coast. it's 11:35 when Leno comes on.

my 12 year old goes to bed between 10 and 10:30. my almost-11 year old would stay up until midnight if I let her, but she's also in bed around 10 most of the time.

We are usually in bed pretty early ourselves. What time do you have to get up? We are up at 5:00 and out the door by 6:30. DD gets on the bus about 6:40. What I want to know is where were the parents!!!!!! It wouldn't be safe for a 3 year old to be out by themselves during the day much less at night!!!! And people wonder how kids get kidnapped. ( Not that you live in a bad neighborhood or anything)

I was surprised when my DS8's friend showed up at our door at 7:30 on a Sunday night "to play". Especially on a Sunday after a big weekend, I like to have the kids in bed about 1/2 hour earlier. I've gone to bed right after them several times. We get up early during the week - 5 a.m. so going to bed at 9 gives me 8 hours which I need every once in a while. DH is another story though - always up late.

IMO, 3 years old is too young to roam anywhere without supervision.

Wow! Your whole family in bed by 8:45! Thats amazing! It's still bright until 9:15 where I live! I can only congradulate u on that!

Sounds rather odd to me also. No way, no how would my kids even now at the ages of 7 and 5 be outside unattended like that. My kids are in bed by 7:45 pm so that they are asleep by 8:00-8:15 pm during the week. To give the parents a little benefit of the doubt, maybe they were caught up in getting suitcases unloaded, checking through the house etc and didn't realize the kids had taken off to "play."

this particular 3 year old ( excuse me, I was informed earlier he turned 4 last week  ) this 4 year old is ALWAYS out running around along with another 3 year old who are out constantly! It makes me crazy! They show up at dinner time ( tonight after ds had allready said Im going in for dinner Ill be out when I'm done) and at all hours! They hover and wait for us to pull up then start in on " when can Cam come and play" and if I say no I hear " But why notttttt... my mom lets me" or something like that.

Its frustrating, I know not everyone has my lifestyle or our rules and I'm not forcing others to change to my rules but I owuld appreciate it if they would at least respect rules.

dh gets up at 6 am and I get up at 6:45 Cams bus leaves at 8 AM and Karissa has to be at school soon after.

I know my kids and at this stage in their lives they need theyre sleep, theyre cranky and dont function as well without it. I know when they get older it will change but for now those are our rules.

I know I sound like a really strict mom and maybe I am but I also know that whenever my kids go to anyones house I hear " WOW they are so well behaved how do you DO that??" If it takes being an Ogre to hear that then so be it ;)

I see it a little clearer now. I don't let my kids run the neighborhood either or bother the other neighbors. I tell them that these people have worked all day too and may be tired and have things to do rather than entertain them!:D

We get up very early here also. (I get up at 4:30 am and out the door by 5:15 am) I also agree about the kids needing their sleep so as not to be cranky, lethargic, etc. (my kids are rarely sick with colds, flu etc and I also attribute this to they get the proper rest)Besides, I need my sleep so that I am not cranky either! ;)

Yes, you are a strict mom, but I like that, as I am a strict mom too!:D
