8/23/09 Wonder

Sometimes it gets a little rough on the way out, I think as the ship passes thru the current going up the coast, but I agree with all, it is not bad. I get motion sick on VR rides, like star tours, etc, so a few years ago on my first cruise I was worried. I took dramamine and didn't like the way it made me feel, and I haven't had it since. It might be reasonable to bring some with you, but maybe try without taking it unless it gets really bad for you.

i will be bringing dramamine as well just in case b/c i too get motion sickness. but i will only take it if i feel like i am getting sick. however i have considered taking before bed. Can anyone who is prone to motion sickness tell me if it is easier to get sick at night while sleeping???

Also does anyone know what to give kids (age 4) if they get sea sick???

Thank you everyone for your insight .... its been very helpful!! And hey we are getting very close!!!

Motion sickness - me and my husband go on sailing cruises and we have always been fine. We just did Alaska with no problem in May (on a big ship) and it was stormy at best. We always do a pill of Dramamine about an hour before we board and then maybe again before bed and have always been fun. I am going to search for kid Dramamine just to have in case but i have been told if kids don't get motion sickness from amusement rides or car sick, they should be fine. Our kids (6 and 4) don't have any probelms like these so i am hoping we should be fine.

Fish Extenders - i looked on the regular board and found some ideas. My mom is making ours. We are also sailing with their 2 cousins so we are doing it - they are calling it "secret mickeys". I know their cabin number so it is easy enough. For others that want to do it, you share cabin numbers. (we are in 8554 if you want to do it...!) just let us know so we can have enough stuff. We are driving so that helps with lugging stuff.

Less than 2 weeks - yay!!

Hi ladypirate,

Grammy, my 7yr old daughter and I are staying at 6631 and we'd be happy to play secret mickey for you and your family .......

Are you getting exceited yet??

I put a call into my son's pediatrician and she recommended the Sea Band. It is a bracelet that puts pressure on acupunture points therefore it is non medicated. I am going to try this for my DS (4yrs) and for myself. Both of us do get car sick.

Leslie - are you going to have an extender hanging outside your cabin? Is there a specific character that your daughter likes? What is her name? Our 6 year old is maggie and the 4 year old is Olivia. I am only going to do stuff for the kiddies!

Sarah

And yes, i think we are getting excited!

I can't believe how close it is getting!!:banana::banana: I have the suitcases ready to be filled!! :goodvibes My girls are so excited!!

Sarah,

Yes we will have a fish extender outside our cabin. My daughter is Julianna and I dont think she has one favorate character ... she's kinda into all of them at the moment. I've got a couple of cute things to give to the kittens ...

Leslie

My luggage came in today ... maybe I'll start packing tonight .... well maybe tomorrow (it is kinda late).

I tried to start on my daughters costume for the pirate night ... broke another needle ... I might have to hand sew (can you say ouch) or ditch the pirate costume all together ...

Just curious - Is anyone dressing the kids up for the pirate night?? and what are they going to wear?? Any adults dressing for pirate night? What are you going to wear??

i plan on having some sort of accessories for my DH and I and will probably buy a costume for my son...i am not a sewer. If I find one for myself then I too will dress up but I suspect my husband would only be willing to do the accessories.:dance3:

We are not dressin up. I have very girly girls one being a teenager that would not be caught dead dressed like that!!! :rotfl2: I will enjoy seeing everyone else dressed up. :goodvibes

I just ordered some pirate costumes for myself and my son :goodvibes.
Hopefully they fit both of us. Got accessories for my husband only. We host an annual halloween party so everyone can guess what we will all be this year:laughing:

we are not dressing up, but the girls got new dresses that somewhat have a pirate like aspect to them that they have decided to wear when they see Captiain Jack!

And pack? Who has thought of that? Oh god, what a nightmare...

Leslie - we will need your cabin number!

Sarah

Feel free to update with anything I may have gotten wrong. Will anyone else be checking in early at the port? Maybe we can find each other while waiting to board the ship. I think the kids would enjoy making new friends.

I dont mean to stress anyone out, but have you guys been watching the tropical storm activity lately? Tropical depression 3 is predicted to become a hurricane and may have a path headed in our direction.

Please say your prayers that this thing will change paths or fizzle away!
