Laura,

We love going into NYC......Where are you staying...One of our favorite places to eat is Tony's NYC.....It is soo FUN and GREAT food lots of famous people eat there.......

There are some really GREAT shows on Broadway right now. What are you looking to see??

 Kristin !
We are thinking about finding an hotel in the Theater District , around Times Square ...That TONY'S restaurant is on the Second Ave./ 83rd Street , right ? Food looks fabulous !!
We  are not sure ... yet ! Would you suggest we rent a car ? I guess that parking is a "lottery" ... or maybe it would be better to go around by taxi ? Is the underground "safe" ... :rotfl: for a tourist ??? We also plan to "walk" around ... and do some shopping ... What do you think ?
Maybe a taxi + some walking ?
(Still need to "study" a good NYC map !!! ;) and make up my mind !! )

THANK YOU !!!!

laura :)

There is a great steak place on 1221 Avenue of the Americas called Del Frisco's. Their sweet potatoes are to die for!!!

I don't know what type of humor you have, but...if you want to laugh for 90 minutes straight Avenue Q is hysterical. It's muppets for adults. I'd check out the website first to see if it's something you'd be comfortable with. My hubby brought me there for my 40th birthday with our friends and we were all laughing so hard we were crying.

THANK YOU Gina !!!! :goodvibes
This Del Frisco's looks great !! and quite close to "our" hotel; we plan about staying in the Theater District, TIMES SQUARE, as we would like to see a show ; we were thinking of one of the Disney musicals ( not sure if we two could "understand" a completely new (for us) comedy or such ... English isn't our first language ...).

Would you advice that we walk around in the Theater District ? We love to walk ....... BUT :confused3 I'm not sure about NYC ; here in Italy everyone walks ... even one hour or more just for leasure or for shopping ... perhaps in mid-Manhattan it's better to take a taxi to a given mall or street ?!?
DEFINITELY I need to have a look at google maps ...

THANK YOU for your thoughts , laura :goodvibes

I think most people walk around NYC. We've walked from DelFriscos to Times Square on a few occasions, not a problem.

Hello Everyone! I have been gone from the boards for a couple of days...we were so busy...I guess that we are always so busy! :rotfl:

Dance recitals went great and we now have two weeks off of dance! :cool1:

I worked on the website a bit today but plan a few more things in the next couple of days to add new stuff for everyone! :surfweb: If you are going to WDW before our cruise, there is now stuff on the WDW page (link off the More than just a cruise page).

Tomorrow I start tutoring for the summer. :teacher: I have a bunch of students to work with this summer and look forward to doing some work. I am also continuing to fill out applications every time I see an open job. The scary thing is that there are usually over 100 people for each open job right now. :scared1:

This week I am going to begin to think about packing!!!! :woohoo: I know it seems way too soon but I am talking mainly about making some lists so I know what we need to buy. I also want to figure out what the BIGGEST bag is that we can carry on...I am hoping not to check to many bags...maybe only 1 or 2. It is always good to have a list to keep me on track!!! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone is having a great start to the week! Chat with you all soon!!!

Laura,

YOu would love Tony's here is the link http://www.tonysnyc.com/menu/index3.html

Yes, that is the correct location.....

If you rent a car the hotel will have parking. It depends what type of hotel you want... We have stayed in and around Rockefeller nice and quite at night. There is a nice Hilton near there or if you want like a "mini" apartment we have stayed on business at the Club Quaters. The rooms have fridges, etc.. Here is the link to this :: http://www.clubquarters.com/loc_nyRockefellerCenter.aspx

Let me know if you have any more questions my husband's home office is in the city. Also, let me know what show you want to see I may be able to get you a discount!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Jen,
Send me some dance recital pictures when you have a chance!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can't take pictures at the dance recital. :sad1: I did post all their other dance photos on our Tortola website. If you look on my family's page, I have a link at the top to see the kids dance pictures.

Does Avis have a place to drop the car off at port or are you parking it while we are on the cruise?

Right now we have a one-day rental with Enterprise from WDW to port and then from port to MCO. I am just concerned because I don't hear much about people using them - we picked them because their cost was the best for the one-day rentals.

It was twenty years ago today, (no not Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play) but Beth and I got married.

No big plans tonight, but the 3 days after the cruise we are celerbrating at WDW !!

Be careful with Avis....they don't include any miles with their reservations and then charge $.30 per mile. So if you put 100 miles on the car (airport to WDW to DtD to port for example), it costs $30 more than quoted price.

I used Budget BCD code S190554 that was a bit more expensive, but included 250 free miles; so ended up being cheaper than Avis.

I am looking at mini-vans....ymmv for other car classes...

Thanks,

We are using Avis also, we are coming in a day early and staying at the Hilton Cape Can., then turning in our car on SAT morning and taking the Avis shuttle to the ship. We did this the last time and it worked out great.

I hope everyone is having a good morning......

I'm not sure why you were charged miles, but I have rented from Avis for years and have never paid for miles....

Just checked my reservation and its says Unlimited Mil.

We've visited NYC twice as tourists with our kids. We loved it. We've stayed at the Hampton Inn Time Square and the one closer to Penn Station. We like them because of the free breakfast. Food is pricey and takes too much time.

These are the things we've done that we'd do again:

1) See a Broadway Play! I'd suggest Mary Poppins, Lion King, The Little Mermaid or Jersey Boys.....we see a play every night.

2) American Museum of Natural History

3) Use the subway or walk everywhere. Taxis are good too, just more expensive.

4) Walked across the Brooklyn Bridge

5) Ate at Ellen's Stardust Diner

Things we'd like to do next visit:

1) Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

2) Top of Empire State Building

3) Ride bikes in Central Park

4) Visit Ground Zero (we visited the Twin Towers years before 9/11)

Have fun!

Very interesting...I went back in and took my Wizard Number off my reservation and the price went up $33 (for the Thursday to Saturday reservation), but I now have unlimited mileage. I am going to look at my Wizard profile...maybe that is some setting I can change.

So my Avis rental and Budget rental are within $3 of each other now.

Disneycrazzzy,

That sounds like fun....We did NYC years ago when my kids were young and it didn't go as well as I would have liked so I would love to go back.

We are just doing Fri to Sat, then Sat 22nd Cape to MCO... We reserved a Mini Van since there are 7 of us, $83 down and $72 back - were you able to get something better?
