Let me first start my saying I hope this is in the right place. I am a 20year college student who has been to the World around 11times. My father has decided I am planning this trip. Which normally I wouldn't have an issue with BUT he is bringing his gf and her 7year old son.
My questions are:
-What does a 7 year old boy like to do?
-Is there anything we should definatly not miss for him?
A little extra information:
-We are going the 23-29 of MAY!
-5 Day base ticket
-QS dining plan
-Its going to be busy, crowded, and hot
-We also intend on trying to eat a TS mean OOP. (WIth Characters)

Thank you for your responses.

On our last trip our oldest son was 7 and he had a blast. It was all about the rides for him. He loved EE and Space Mountain. He waned to go on Rock n Rollercoaster but not quite tall enough.

We had breakfast at CP which he and his brother enjoyed but I think they liked Chef Mickey's on our previous trip better.

He also loved Hoop-De-Do Revue.

Unfortunatly SM is going to be closed...:sad2: but you said he enjoyed other rollar coasters, thats a good sign.
What do you think about Innovations?
or the coloring/passport thing around the World showcase?
Also going back to the room Mid-Day, a good idea?
Thanks again

go see lights motor action show at Hollywood studios , me 4 yr old loved it and don't forget about the Lego store in down town Disney , and there is disney quest to

I am bringing my 6yo soon, and some things I have planned for him are:

Pirate Cruise out of the Grand Floridian ($30.00 for 2 hours)
T-Rex cafe (similar to Rainforest Cafe) in Downtown Disney
Barber shop on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom (they style and color hair)
Biergarten meal- they have an oompah band (son likes funny music)
Sci-Fi for a meal

Lights Motor Action (I had forgotten about that one)
Barber Shop, good idea (and my dad could participate too, lol)
Also resturant ideas sound good as well.
Thanks

Our DS who is now 6 likes to go straight to Tower right at rope drop and he asks for his own elevator. If they are not busy they will do what they can to honour the request.

The 7 yr old might like having the VIP treatment.

Rope drop (again a good idea) then mid-day we can take a nap. He's never been to the World, do you think starting him off on TOT would make him afraid to ride other rides? We are doing DHS on the First day.

My boys ages 7 and 8 love everything at disney. They still want to go on dumbo, but they also like the roller coasters. I don't think you can go wrong whatever you do. Well they aren't into the princesses. :lmao:

They still like the kidcots at epcot. Innovations will keep them there all day if I let them. I have to drag them out.

Lights, motor, action they love it, I don't. Its so hot up there. DH takes them, and I go shop. Same for Indiana Jones.

Our trip is 6 months away, and my DS 8 is already talking about the lego store, and what he is going to get there. In fact, I let him come up with a list of things at each park that he wants to do, and the only thing he left off was snow white. He says we need to do everything else!

The boys say the best charactor meal is Crystal Palace, but I'm trying to convince them to try Ohana this year. (we only do 1 or 2 each time.)

We don't leave for naps, but a lot of people do.

He will probley have to suffer through meeting TINKER BELL for me....

Do you use a stroller?

Kidcots (thats what they are called) and Innovations.

So I can pretty much do everything and he'll pobley enjoy it...

So Crystal Palace, All the rides, Kidcots, innoventions, Lego Store, Lights Motor action.....

So much help everyone!

For your first day I would start off with Toy Story! Also Star Tours, and both the stunt shows like suggested! Get FP's for later for the scary rides and see how it goes. You can use the childswap if he decides he doesn't want to ride or utilize his FP so that someone can ride each twice. Definitely see Fantasmic! My son, 5, really enjoyed the great movie ride. He talked about it non-stop after we got back!

It will really depend on the child as to which rides they like. Some might not like dark but be fine with coasters. Some might not mind dark but hate the speed. You'll really have to feel him out. Don't start on anything too scary or he might refuse to go on any rides if you scare him! We always start on the small coasters and work up to see how they handle them!

I also like Crystal Palace and Sci-Fi Diner was great for dining!

I would suggest breaks some days to go back and swim and rest. AK and DHS are usually days we don't break but at MK and Epcot we do. DHS you are watching so many shows you get your break and AK days are typically kind of short. My son also really liked the safari there! Dinosaur is pretty intense so you'll have to feel that one out!

This will be our first trip without a stroller. I think at 7 and 8 they should be fine. They are very active, and they like to hike in the woods. We do a 2 mile trail with lots of hills, and they are fine.

We also take a longer trip of 10 to 14 days, and spend some days not at the parks. That is our rest time. If we were going to parks more than 2 days in a row, we would probably need naps during the day.

We have never met tinkerbell, but when my DS was 4 he got a great big lipstick kiss on the cheek from sleeping beauty. :lovestruc

I would also suggest tom sawyer island. My kids love a less crowded place to just run around.

Seven is such a great age. That is how old my DD was for our Fall trip. She still liked/wanted the younger rides but was willing to try the big rides. She was not tall enough for RandR coaster but went on everything else.

If he is interested in Dumbo, go there first. The line gets insanely long because it loads so slowly. I think my DD could have skipped it this year, but she has a four year old brother.

If he likes Star Wars, don't forget Star Tours.

We go for six days and take breaks about every other day. She doesn't take naps but enjoys swimming. We did not have a stroller for her. She did fine but sometimes a little whiny after the night shows. (I bet she wouldn't have been if anybody had been with us!) We only stay out late three nights so my kids get plenty of sleep every other night.

Character meals - Ohana is fun for boys. My DS 10 likes CP, but it is the one restaurant we go to every year so it is a tradition.

Sci-Fi would probably be great for him. All three of my kids loved it.

Have fun!

My 8 and 10 yo boys have not been yet, but I have been showing them youtube videos and they are screaming to ride Toy Story Mania (DHS) and the Toy Story arcade at MK. We will be there during the last Star Wars weekend, and they are going to be in heaven over that. I'm thinking Star Tours, Lights Motors Action, and the Indiana Jones thing, too.

My boys love to travel and have been to many major European cities, so the world's fair aspect of Epcot is going to thrill them. I expect they will still be interested in the Kidcot areas, too, and I think Soarin' is going to work great for them. Other parts of Epcot may be too boring and educational for a 7 yo, though.

One consideration, ask the GF how her son reacts to thrills and chills. I have no hope of getting either of my boys in the Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Carribean. The younger one nightmares easily and the older one is slightly timid. They do no roller coasters and nothing that looks scary. So be prepared and ASK, just in case her son is like mine. Mine still enjoy the heck out of amusement parks, and I know they will love WDW, they just are going to enjoy a little bit differently than many of their peers.

I hope you all have loads of fun, and that you see Disney through the eyes of a kid again. :-)

Such a hard question - boys at that age can be a million different things! Some are still little boyish, while others are more like teenagers. Let me preface my suggestions by asking if this is his first trip? If it is, there will be so much for him to see and do he will be in awe. If he has been before, he may already have some favorite things he would like to do. If that is the case, maybe you could ask him and make sure to hit some of his highlights. Regardless, I applaud you for "sharing" your trip with him. And to think enough to ask us shows that you want to show him a great time, too. Just think of all the magic you can show him!

If he is a star wars fan, right next to Star Tours is a little stage where they do Jedi Training Academy every hour or so. If I'm not mistaken, you can find out the times on The Times Guide when you enter the park. And if he is anything like my son, he can spend endless hours in the Star Wars store. Be careful, though! There are a lot of "I wants" in there! :-)

Near Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Jack Sparrow does a little show a few times during the day. (Again, I'm thinking these times should be posted in The Times Guide?) Definitely worth catching.

Did anybody say Tom Sawyer's Island, yet? My son loves it out there, and it can be a nice break from the crowds if you hit it right. Forts, guns, tunnels - a boy's dream!

Those are my suggestions that are a little less "traditional." I hope you have a great trip!

Just remember he's a little kid and they can be very different from one another. Someone mentioned a stroller - my little guy wouldn't be caught dead in one. Someone mentioned they like roller coasters - my little guy is scared to death of them; however, he loves Tower of Terror. Go figure. My little man also likes the water slides, but not swimming. And, he loves the night shows (Fantasmic, Wishes, parades). He loves Splash Mountain and Soarin'. He enjoys pin trading with cast members and also gathering autographs (but not taking photos).:thumbsup2

My son will turn 7 on our first trip with kids this October.

We are going to do Chef Mickey's for DS's bday dinner. He's mostly over the cartoon phase, but he does still like Mickey. ::MickeyMo He LOVES swords, so we are going to try to get him picked for Jedi Knight Training at DHS, and then let him build his own lightsaber at the nearby shop.:darth: Epcot has the Kim Possible mission, where they pick up a phone and follows clues around the world. That might be fun for the GF's son.

I think he will be ok without a stroller. We are taking our double stroller because our 3 y.o. will definitely need one, and if DS sees his sister in the stroller, he will want to sit, too. It's better for me than to hear them fighting over the stroller.

Definitely take time to go back to the resort to swim. I think out of everything, that is what DS is the most excited about! :rotfl:

My son has been twice now...age 7 and 8. He loved Chef Mickeys and the Garden Grill for dining choices because of the charcters. Check out the Incredibles in DHS. He did collect autographs in a book for both trips and still wants to get them again this summer! He loves Typhoon Lagoon. Try to get a front seat in the monorail.

THANK YOU ALL SOOOO MUCH!

I have recieved so much input I just want to let you all know how thankful I am. Generally speaking I am Clueless but thanks to all of you I can hopefully make his first trip enjoyable. All of the suggestions and ideas are better than I could of thought of. Even though I've been numerous times I can hardly remember going at his age, plus I am a girl. I am now ready to start planning for a trip that is around 2 weeks away!!! Thank you all again!

I think she should give his mom a call and ask her what her really likes.or maybe have a "date" take him to lunch and find out things he likes to do.
