7th Annual Christmas Thread

This weekend I am going to pull out items that I have bought already and make my list. I refuse to over buy this year! We have two cruises planned for next year (only a few weeks apart) and the kids know Christmas will be small this year. They are getting things needed for the trips. One cruise is to Alaska and the other is to western carib. so they will need completely different items for each cruise. :rotfl2:

I will be buying a bunch of gifts when we are at WDW (29 days and counting) so that will help me knock out my list

I am going to start cashing in points on reward sites for Gift cards so I can make sure they are here in time. I usually get DH a bunch of small gift cards to buy food at like McD,Subway, Panera, Chipotle.

I wanna play, too!!

DS4 - wants all things Jake and the Neverland Pirates
-Jake hideout playset
-Captain Hook pirate ship playset
-Jake leappad game
-Cranky Crane for his train set (hoping to pick this up on Ebay cheaply)
-new bike helmet
-probably a lego junior or duplo set, they have Jake duplos but he's kind of
outgrown those.

DS11 - no idea, I've told him he's got a budget of $150 and can have whatever he wants within that. So far he's come up with:
-PS3 minecraft game
-Lego Marvel set

If he doesn't come up with anything else I will fill in the rest of his budget with camping gear for scouts.

Both will also get some books and probably some clothes and Pjs and a DVD plus stocking stuffers

DH - also no idea

We also buy for 2 sil, 1 bil, and my mother. They will all get gift cards and maybe something picked up from our church's holiday bazaar.

My oldest is still a work in progress. I have gotten her a ton of Frozen items. I am still waiting on the Disney Store Ice Skating dolls set. I already have the ones that are sold in target etc as back up. I am just waiting for the next free shipping promo from American Girl so I can order her Isabelle stuff that she wants. I saw yesterday that they are coming out with a Frozen Lego set in January 2015. I am hoping that it will appear on some store shelves before then like last year when I was able to get Cinderella's Castle before Christmas.

Thanks for the heads up on Frozen Legos! Those will be a must in this house!!

Has anyone heard when the Itouch 6 is coming out, or if it is at all before Xmas? I keep reading conflicting information and this is what I wanted to get my daughter for Xmas.

I'm so not in the Christmas shopping mood this year. Y'all need to pep me up, ok! I've tried to start but just can't get into it yet. I don't know whats wrong with me. Usually I'm almost done by now. LOL I need ideas and I think thats part of my problem. I've ran out of ideas. Oh the horrors!:lmao:

Ds 11
PS3 (in walmart layaway) he wanted a ps 4 be changed his mind when he found out that it would use up his whole Christmas budget! LOL

Marvels infinity game with charatchers
ps3 games
transformers action figures
clothes as filler gifts

DD13 (will be 14 on the 8th of December, double whammy here)

she is asking for a horse and I would go for it but our land isn't in shape yet for horses. We bought 5 acres last summer 2013 so we have the space but it needs fences, mesquite root removel, grass and a barn. So I'm thinking maybe giving her riding lessons at a nearby stable. 12 lesson is 250.00. When I ask her what else she wants she doesn't even know. I was thinking adding riding gear and clothes as filler gifts to go along with the riding lessons. She's not a reader, has every electronic you can think of, she wont wear makeup or jewerly.

Anyone got ideas. I've been reading the thread but nothing sticks out.

I need help!!!:dance3::dance3:

I see your point. Everything for teen girls is clothes, make up, nail polish and jewelry! Does she like board games? What about something new for her room? Gift cards to the movie theater? Is she into art stuff?

Have made a little more progress:

  • My mom and Dad: a subscription to a wine club, from the winery at dd's university-they'll get 4 bottle of wine three different months. Probably some english muffins from Wolferman's as well.
  • My sister
  • My sister's SO
  • Nephew 19: Walmart GC. He's supporting himself and attending junior college.
  • Nephew 17
  • Nephew 15: sharing a soda stream with nephew 14
  • Nephew 14: sharing a soda stream with nephew 15
  • My brother
  • DH's brother
  • DH's Sister:
  • DH's niece 39
  • 5 girlfriends
  • huge amount of coworkers & staff!!
  • My DH:
  • DS 22
  • DD 20: $45 DSW gift card
  • DS 17

I also do stockings at our house as well as my extended family. My new thing this year is only putting consumables in stockings (either food or toiletries, etc)
So I have gotten oldest DN a bag of laundry soap pods. I'm also getting jerkey and nutella snacks for the nephews stockings.

I still have a ways to go!

Has anyone heard when the Itouch 6 is coming out, or if it is at all before Xmas? I keep reading conflicting information and this is what I wanted to get my daughter for Xmas.

I had heard October (and in the past, the touch has always been about a month behind the phone), but I haven't seen anything official. We were looking at that as a possibility too, but ended up just getting DD a phone instead. I also read somewhere that Apple was not going to make the touch anymore. I find that hard to believe, because it seems mighty popular, but who knows....

It is starting to get chilly here in MD. I am not ready for the cold but I am ready for some Christmas music and movies! I can use some help w gift ideas for my 7 and 9 year old girls. What is on your lists for the 7 to 10 year old girl crowd?

My dd will be 8 next month. She wants American Girl stuff, the Cinderella lego carriage, a watch, zoomer puppy, an olaf robe (Kohl's), Plush Craft Owl Pillow and would like gift cards to Barnes and Nobles for books. Hope that helps :).

She also wants a new (bigger) bike so that is her big gift this year.

I can't believe I haven't bought a thing yet! Even though I only exchange with my parents. I did go on walmart.com tonight and found a nice bedspread for my mom and the typical stocking stuffers (razors, deodorant and shaving cream) so I might just order everything since it's free shipping. I know for my dad I would also get him a gc to panera bread and chick fil a. My mom is normally the easiest one to shop for but not sure what else to get her yet.

I need to do this as well. I have a spreadsheet that has most of what I purchased since last Christmas, but I know there are some things I haven't added. I try to not overspend every year! Sometimes it works better than others.

Got a nice visit from the UPS man today!!! Lots of Christmas presents to be stored in the basement for now!! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you've got a great jump start to your shopping! I still can't believe I haven't bought one thing!

I wish the UPS man would visit me! I placed an order with Amazon for over $200 early last Wednesday morning (the first day for an extra 5% back with Chase Freedom for the quarter :cool1:), and the stupid thing still hasn't shipped yet! Yes, I used the free super saver shipping, and I know those are the lowest priority, but this is ridiculous. Today is the first day of the "Expected delivery" date window, and it hasn't even left yet! :confused3

I don't shop much at Amazon anymore, because I can usually find cheaper prices elsewhere. This is just another nail in the coffin. I am convinced Amazon is purposely delaying the shipment of super saver packages, and not just making them a lower priority, in order to get people to sign up for Prime.

So happy to find this thread! Christmas shopping has been on my mind lately. This year we are trying not to go over board. Last year the elf brought a pre-made wish list from Santa. It asked them to list something they want, need, wear, read and something special. He will be doing the same thing this year, but instead of something you need we are changing it to an experience. With my kids being DD7, DD4 and DS 11 months they don't really need anything. So we thought an experience like movies, ice skating or maybe lessons is a better fit.

We have told our girls that Christmas won't be big this year because we leave for Disney the day after Thanksgiving. They know that Disney and BBB is their gift from us. I also have a surprise and got tickets to Frozen on ice. Of course I have found a couple things to put under the tree from us that I couldn't pass up getting.

I have started shopping.
DD7: furby boom (not sure what I was thinking), ever after high doll set, tomogatchi (stocking), frozen playing cards (stocking dollar bin at target), funky knee high socks (stocking), diary with lock and scented gel pens, and four AG outfits because the today show was having a sale and I picked all four up for $48! I just couldn't pass up that deal. So that will probably be from us. All I have left to get is something to read and wear. I saw at Costco they have a three book AG set that comes with the small doll.

DD4: she is a little harder to shop for. I have a my little pony for her that she has been asking for and I also got her a doll bed for her dolls. I was thinking about getting the twin AG dolls but they are expensive. Maybe a stroller for her doll. Funky socks (stocking). I'm really lost on what to get her because she loves playing with everything big sister plays with.

DS11 months: I have most of the toys from my other kids and I always bought neutral colors. I'm really not sure what we will end up getting him. He'll probably just want to play with the boxes anyways.

I have to say that I placed my order on Wednesday last week and had the free super saver shipping, and I got it yesterday. I thought that was pretty quick! I was very anxious as the order contained two laptops so I was definitely watching out for them, knowing they would just be left on my side porch....:faint:

Nieces -- My three nieces will each get $50. The oldest is married with a baby. I might get the baby a gift, but last year I sent some cute holiday bibs (the baby was almost 2 months old) and they told me they don't believe in using bibs so...

Maria :upsidedow

How can anyone not believe in bibs? Their child must be a perfect eater, and they never feed him/her anything like, say, tomato sauce. :confused3

I had heard October as well. It still must have a pretty decent market share if this thread is any indication. My DD is right there too. She loves listening to music and watching videos and taking pictures, but she does not need a phone yet.

I started thinking about Christmas gifts this week!

Each year my mom, aunt, and I spend a weekend in December making 12+ different goodies so that's what extended family and my boyfriends' parents all get. We've already started picking up the chocolates and candies that go into them, along with sugar, butter (omg prices of butter this year!), and flour.

I only have two people to buy for so it's not too difficult, but this year dbf and I are going to Disneyland and staying onsite in January before I go back to school so I'm trying to keep it super budget friendly this year.

For my mom - a pressure cooker! I found one on amazon for a decent price and has gotten some good reviews. It's something she's always wanted and any time we see it used on the food network she mentions it... so a perfect time to get her one. I also want to get her a Dr Who license plate holder that says her other ride is a Tardis, but I'm waiting for free shipping at thinkgeek like I had last year when I grabbed her a Dr Who mug. I always make her something but I'm kind of running out of ideas. I think I've single handedly decorated her bedroom in art pieces and a big mirror that I made for her. I was thinking of making something for this big wall we have in the kitchen but I haven't squared the details out yet. (I was thinking metallic painting some paper mache letters that spell out "EAT" to make them look like metal and putting them on a stained board or burlap covered canvas) Thankfully dbf works at Michael's and gets me 30% off with his discount on top of any coupons that are out lol

I was also looking at getting her a 3 month subscription to this Dr Who shirt of the month sort of club where they send an exclusive Dr Who themed shirt out each month. It's relatively inexpensive for each month (I think $13.xx shipped?) but they add up, so I figured 3 months is enough for her to decided if she wanted to continue it or not on her own.

Then my boyfriend! Ugh he's being ridiculous this year with "I don't want anything" since we're going to DLR a few weeks later. When I was looking at the "shirt of the month" club for my mom I found the same sort of idea but with Legend of Zelda (a videogame series) shirts, so I might do a few months of that for him. Then I got to thinking I may as well do an entire Zelda themed Christmas! I thought of making an 8-bit image of Link quilt for him. But then I was thinking that would get a bit on the pricey side... so I asked my mom if she could teach me to crochet since it's simple squares over and over again and yarn would be better on me price-wise.

He needs things he always uses; sketchbooks, pens, etc so I might make up a little basket kind of thing of everything wrapped individually.

I found this woman who makes felt sewn character pillows on etsy and she makes a sloth, so dbf and I got that for his brother who's obsessed with them. Then he also got my mom an eleven character pillow, from Dr Who. .... my mom really likes doctor who so she's pretty easy to buy for. At least two of his gifts are out of the way!

I haven't actually purchased anything yet so these ideas could all go out the window in a week or two lol
