We have a large family group planning a trip to Disney next year and I am looking for any recommendations for 7 or 8 BR homes. We have found some in Rolling Hills and Formosa Gardens. Are both of these subdivisions good? Anyone stayed in a large home that they would recommend?

Only been in the Emerald Island-Windsor Palms areas, but not sure if I have seen that many homes big homes listed. Just that 7/8 BR are less common than 5/6. How many people are going? I ask because IIRC, there are limits to occupancy. For example a 7 BR place probably is allowed to hold 16 people max (2 per BR, plus 2 on sofa bed); you will have to check with the renter to find out for sure. Perhaps getting two slightly smaller places close to each other may work better. FWIW.

I have been looking for homes that sleep 16 - 18. I know we will have at least 12 who have made firm committments, but we wanted a large enough home in case the rest are able to make it.

I only found a couple in Rolling Hills and Formosa Gardens that met our criteria, but found a few more in Emerald Island. If we rented more than one home, I would look into Windsor Hills as well.

I have never been offsite - are there any pros/cons to any of these neighborhoods? Any others I should look at? Thanks so much!

All of these subdivisions are in essentially the same place, only a couple minutes separates all of them. It's a very nice area only 2 minutes at most from 192 and lots of restaurants. They're all within 5 - 10 min of Disney AK.

Just put in one of the names at the bottom right corner and the map will zoom in for you.

The homes in FG are fabulous. Did you try the listings on vrbo.com :

Hi, we owned a 7/6 in Emerald Island until a couple of years ago...In my opinion I would look for the true 7bedrooms that are in the Enclave at Emerald Island if you choose Emerald Island...bigger homes and bigger lots and not quite as cramped those not in the Enclave...they have 5 1/2 to 6 bathrooms with 3 master suites with their own baths and then 4 bedrooms, usually twins that share a 2 jack and jill baths.

In all honesty, the bedroom situation is great, but the family room area is a bit small for 12 to 15 folks...there are game rooms in the garage in many of the homes and a "living room" in the front of the house for sitting usually without a TV where people can congregate away from the family room.

if the weather is nice, the family room opens to the pool deck so people can spread out just fine.

Formosa Gardens have bigger homes, but usually a bigger price tag. There are some huge homes in FG that are really fancy.

IMHO, they key to this many folks in a house is the bathrooms...ie plenty of them and privacy for the adults.
In the Enclave 7 bedroom homes at EI there are the 3 master suites, one down and two up with private baths and the jack and jill are actually off the hallway but direct access from each bedroom which is nice as no one is running down a hallway in a towel!!!

Another option for very private or active families is side by side 3/3 or 4/4 homes. Now there are two pools, two game rooms, extra baths...works very well for groups of 15 to 20...

Good luck and let us know if any other questions....Ted

Thanks, Ted! That helps a lot. We have a few that we are looking into - Tiggers Treehouse in Rolling Hills looks to be our favorite so far, but there are also a few in EI that we like too. If none of these will work out for us, then we'll look for a couple of homes side-by-side.

WOW...looks very very nice...if most adult couples are OK with queen beds or double bed and it looks like the family room area is like EIsland...pretty small with seating for about 5-6, this is a beautiful place in a great location...

With this many bedrooms the "family room" area will just have to be smaller to accomodate the bedrooms...
good Luck..Ted

Try www.allstarvacationhomes.com ;). We've rented with them twice (March 2007 & 2008)....the first was a 6 bedroom that slept 14 and the second was a 7 bedroom that slept 16. The subdivision we were in both times was Acadia Estates (right across the street from Formosa Gardens, I believe). I think their homes only go up to 7 bedroom/sleeping 16, but if that would work for you, I'd highly recommend them as they were GREAT to work with and the homes are beautiful :dance3:. Picking the home, booking it, checking in/out could not have gone any better either time.....and what you see online as far as pics of the home are exactly what you get :cool1: :cool1:. We will definitely use them again :thumbsup2. Good luck :).
