75 Point Minimum holding for Membership Extras just went live

I think the cost is high, but honestly, I thought 100 points was more likely. Folks will just pass up “full membership.”

I think this means they might be struggling to sell full direct contracts. Imho you'd have to have a very high income to be able to afford the new direct prices. Or be very foolish. Current prices effectively eliminate middle income earners like myself. Back when I purchased my first resale contract in 2007, the direct add-on that I bought right away only cost me $11 per point more. But then the minimum buy in for new members was 160 points. I couldn't afford that all at once. It appears that all of the changes are designed to make it affordable to the upper income earners, and make the experience less special for the rest of us. Still I know it's a business and if the market will support it, they will keep making these changes.

Sorry didn't see the link to the other thread. Anyway, I 'm just going through my annual "Should I sell phase". Winter is getting to me.

OK - must ask.... WHAT "Membership Extras" ?

Now, my DW and I own 270 Direct from Disney Points. "Membership Extras", to us, are minimal. And decreasing daily.
When the cost differential gets close to 2X? Those "Extras" better be damn good :).
They are not.

I think they're being quite generous with the 75 point minimum.

Moonlight Magic nights are fantastic if you are able to attend one or more. Unfortunately most members probably do not have vacations scheduled to coincide with these nights.
Another: discounts. Last year we had 20% discounts at many to most shops and a large number of restaurants. The discount has since been dropped back down but it helped to cut a chunk out of the bill at the end while it was up there. I have not looked up what the current discounts are but I'm willing to bet that there are still quite a few at 10%.

Grin - my case being tired? It rests :).

Now, not all gloom and doom.... DVC really is a prepaid ROOM DISCOUNT. And it is substantial.

DW and I get ROOMS at about 25% of Rack.
We can buy TIW, and avoid the looser "Meal Plans".
60 Day FP.

Garbage "Direct" stuff - Private Hotels. Cruises. Toy discounts. Meal discounts.

Get the ROOM. The ROOM is going to be the cost limiting element. While we DID buy direct? "Direct" is getting to be non-competitive.
