Yeah I was going to say the box office in general is doing horribly right now. Maybe Barbie will change that but MI7 isn't exactly blowing it out of the water when people thought the Top Gun effect would happen with it

Yeah, it did well but has underperformed, especially domestically. With the budgets of these movies they need to do better - but Hollywood has to realize that they can't release so many movies that need at least $800M in box-office revenue to break even in such a short window. There is really only room for one or two of those a year.

sometimes people deserve to be held accountable for their actions. If you preach hate, that is what you will get back. It is not bias when people do not agree with your forced ideas of homogeneity... it is called character. If what you post is so offensive that people report you, then perhaps you should reevaluate what you are posting?

Getting bent out of shape because there are films or content that doesn't cater to just you...LOL
I didn’t preach hate and it was biased. I simply disagreed with the hive mind and stated that what Disney is pushing down people’s throats are clearly not making any money because they want to cater to people like you. The group that it’s catering to doesn’t bring in the money.

The nature of the business is too make money not make the smaller group happy LOL

They reported me to silence me and have me removed just because I didn’t agree with the mob.

People are tired of repeat stories and Hollywood needs to stop bringing movies back out of the vault.

MI7 did not need to happen neither did Barbie. They need to bring in new talent that can actually write and tell a story.

Also they need producers who won’t follow what the academy board is requiring them to do in order to be nominated.

Disney should have remained neutral regardless of the demands of either side.

People are cheering that they are producing this type DEI content. What people don’t realize is that as a business these consumers are gone for good and if Disney tries to get them back you will have to the other side melting down demanding more dei or they will walk.

Who ever made this decision has permanently destroyed profits for years to come.

Why? No one is showing up to watch original content outside of animated films. You can go back to 2010 and see that is the case. Barbie is on track to make 140M this weekend. It's never been touched outside of cartoon movies. It has a 60 year following that spans generations just like Legos did. It has a pretty talented writer/director helming it.

I guess I'm confused by your stance that Disney should have remained neutral. They and pretty much all businesses have never been neutral. It's just that you are now seeing it more in the public domain.

Pre pandemic, the top 10 box office in 2019 were all sequels, remakes or established IP. Last year the same exact thing for the top 10 and this year will be no different.

People can complain all they want about the gluttony of sequels or remakes but those make the big bucks. They may not make the most profit since they have the bigger budgets but they bring in the most money and promotion for the studios. Elemental is the highest grossing animated original since Coco in 2017. If people want original stories than actually show up to them.

people can report you all they want... unless there is actually something offensive or against the guidelines in your posts, then you should have nothing to be concerned about...

I don’t know why some people are under the impression that only one side gets their posts deleted but I’ve had quite a few get removed, gotten points, gotten a message from the mods. I’m not complaining about it though, the rules are pretty clear and that’s the risk if you decide to post about this stuff.

There is no demand for that type of content.

They are only pandering to a small base.

Again these directors are talented but they binded to the rules of the academy which wants DEI over the story.

Again some people are going to make excuses and even say everything is ok. The numbers don’t lie people are turned off by what Hollywood, Disney, universal, etc. are pushing. I haven’t watched sound of freedom nor do I care but look at the story and the budget and the traffic it has had and it is night and day difference and it’s borderline an indie film!

Exactly I got reported and when I asked the admin what did I say they did not respond and deleted that I said hateful things.

I’m not worried but it is sad that if you disagree you are labeled hate speech.

Then you can live in the bubble if you don’t want to see what’s actually happening. The numbers don’t lie.

They have not remained neutral they are pandering to one side over to avoid a mob backlash.

To your point in pre pandemic films we did not have this type of films/content shift. Movies are about entertainment for everyone not any particular group. It’s about the story not the agenda. Theatre's will and movies will remind profitless as they decided to get overly political and push agendas.

once again I did not say anything hateful I just disagreed with the mob. Is respectfully disagreeing part of the rules? I know the risks but it’s sad immature tactic to silence anyone from saying anything. I guess your ok with that ?

Your argument seems to be that if a movie has DEI that it must come at expense of the story - it doesn't. They are coming up with stories that are inherently inclusive, and they can be good. The issue comes from those who simply don't want to see those kinds of stories at all.

Not really a great example to bring up Sound of Freedom given what the creators of that movie are saying (not sure if I'm allowed to mention it but if you Google it you'll be able to see what I mean).

Funny. Top Gun had those same rules and did a billion dollars. It had "forced diversity" that the first movie never had. Using "woke" or DEI as the only excuse as to why people aren't showing up this summer is a bit of a stretch.

Sound of Freedom would be a better example if it wasn't partially crowd funded for the box office returns.

So then it doesn’t bring in money right ? If you are in the business to bring money would stay the course or fail?

Yea it has been labeled and again I have not watched it nor do I care too but the story seems to have resonated with everyone.

That’s the point the story not what some political pundits are claiming it about.

I watched a show that was also labeled by show critics which was “ The terminal list” and it was really good the story line was great.

The story telling is the problem and if the business is about making money then they made a bad decision clearly.
