Put all of your clothes in ziplock bags - either by outfit or type (i.e., underwear together, shirts together, etc.). Then close zipper most of the way and then squeeze out extra air. It saves you about 1/3 of the space.

In addition, if they have to open your luggage, they aren't touching your clothes and they can quickly pick up bags to glance through.

We do this every time now.

Their great for getting as much space out of your bag as possible. Then coming back all the dirty laundry can be compacted into them. They're also good for bulky sweatshirts/fleece. Also use smaller zips for socks, toiletries, etc.

I always travel with just a carryon so if it's more than 4 days, I do laundry 1/2 way through my vacation. This time of year (or Feb.) I only bring 1 pair of shorts as it's rarely warm enough to NEED them, except for going to the pool/jacuzzi. Same thing for a bathing suit.

Also, traveling I wear layers - T-shirt, long sleeve T & sweatshirt/fleece or jacket.

Hope these help!!!!

Wow! I love the idea of being able to travel with just a carry on! Then I could also use a back-pack type thing for my "purse" on the plane right? Or have they clamped down on that since 9/11?

It depends on the size of the backpack. Check the airline's website for the size limits for a "personal item".

This was on SWA: I had both my carryon and a backpack/purse-style and nobody said anything. Just as long as it fits under the seat!!!!

We are the king and queen of carryon (and we don't abuse the policy.) We even went on a 14-night cruise with just our two roller bags and the matching overnight bags, which are the size of a medium backpack. It can be done--especially at WDW. Over our past stays, we have come to realize that, even when we are dining at nicer restaurants (Jiko, Ohana, California Grill) we don't need all the mountains of clothes we once thought we would need. We also pack in giant ziploc bags and squeeze all the air out. That works like a charm!
