Hi, we are thinking of booking the Disney cruise for the coming Thanksgiving with 8 and 11 years. We live in Houston. 7-night cruising out of Galveston was convenient. We have been on Carnival cruise several times out from Galveston. My DH suggests the combination of 4 nights cruise out of Port Canaveral, plus two to three days at Miami/Everglades NP. Has anybody done this before?

Personally, I feel 7 nights cruise is more relaxing and convenient. The airfare plus hotel cost for two to three days in Miami was probably more expensive than 7 nights cruise.

7 nights cruise from Galveston is Disney Wonder. 4 nights cruise from Port Canaveral is Disney Dream.

Any suggestions?

Well, I'm firmly in the "longer is better" camp. So, 7 nights wins out over 4.

I'll just point out, also, Galveston is very prone to fog delays (especially in the wintertime), so plan your arrival/departure dates carefully.

A Dream cruise from Port Canaveral and then 3/4 nights in Miami - well, be aware it's a 4 hour trip from PC to Miami, cutting into your time there.

I'm also a Texan, and I personally would not be thrilled about sailing in the Gulf of Mexico. Just not the same thing as the open ocean, imo, with all of the oil rigs, etc. The Galveston area is a bit run down, and Texas will be cooler than Florida in November, so there is less chance for warm & sunny weather for the whole cruise than if you were sailing from Florida.

I'd much rather take a 4-night cruise out of Port Canaveral & also get to tour the Everglades. That's something we can't do at home.

Living in Houston, I'm sure the OP already knows what Galveston looks like. LOL

I vote for 7 days. No air travel, no transfers. Just drive down and get on the ship. No need to worry about making it on time to the airport from the ship. Sounds like heaven to me. And it will get warmer once you go south. We did a Merrytime cruise over Christmas from Galveston. It was 40 degrees when we left, and a beautiful 80 in Cozumel.

My family would choose 7 nights. Especially for thanksgiving. Holiday on the ship would be heavenly and memorable.

I would go for the 7-nights. I personally like the Wonder over the Dream and a longer cruise is always better.

Personally I'd look at the ship amenities and see what you prefer. Normally I'd always say 7 nights (and probably would still choose that!) but if things like the AquaDuck and Midship Detective are important to your kiddos you might want the shorter one.

But....I'd still go for 7. :)

You will get a lot of varying opinions on this one ... but personally I would go for a 7 night cruise (without question.)

I know it's jmho but compared to a Disney cruise, the Everglades are boring as hello! Really, if you've ever wanted to observe endless views of swampland, that's it.
Hands down I'd vote for the 7- nt cruise, even if it were a cruise to nowhere.
