7 months strategy

Hi everyone, I would be very grateful for some opinions about what my best strategy will be for the following:

I am planning a 11-night stay at WDW in early May next year. I currently have a reservation at my home resort (BWV) for a Boardwalk view studio. I am planning to try to change this to VWL at the beginning of October when the 7 months window opens, however, as I understand I can only book 7 nights at once. So I am risking that even if the first 7 nights are available, I might not be able to get the remaining 4 nights when I can book them. On the other hand, if I wait until I can book everything, the start of the vacation might not be available anymore.

I am aware of the fact that it is going to be a gamble either way, I was just wondering whether anyone of the knowledgeable people here would have any advice whether one method would be better than the other! Thanks!

I am sure others will weigh in with their opinions. I don't do split vacations anymore. I would rather be at any DVC resort for my entire trip than split it up.

So for me, I would only be interested in booking when I can book all of my days. If I can't I wait list for the entire trip and if it does not come through I stay with my first reservation.

I would think that booking for early May, you should be fine in waiting until you can book the full 11 days. As far as I know, May isn't during any of the school vacation weeks, and you're not around any long weekends. I'd wait until I could book all 11 days, if they're not all available, waitlist them. At 7 months out you have a good chance that you'd get your waitlist. We've been lucky enough to get BWV 2 bedroom with a waitlist for April--came through 3+ months before

Thanks for the advice! You both confirmed what I was thinking. I really don't want to be stuck with having to change resorts (even though I would happily stay at both - if someone else did all the packing and unpacking for me!!). I know that it will be just so hard to see those first days available and not do anything about securing them.
