7 Month ??

We currently have our reservations for our end of August trip for our home resort (VWL). We have always stayed there, and are thinking of switching to either BWV or BCV at the 7 month mark. We have a studio. Exactly how should I do this? Should I wait until the end and book the whole thing -- or switch day to day? Just do not want to have the problem of getting some of the days but not all of them. Can I call now and check on the availability? Thanks

I don't think it will help to call now to check on availability - it changes too often for that to be of any worth to you.

FWIW, the end of August shouldn't be all that hard to get at the BCV or the BWV (unless your heart is set on a standard view or a guaranteed Boardwalk view at the BWV).

If you just can't stand the thought of using the waitlist or possibly having to move back and forth, just call 7 months prior to your desired check out date. Either you'll get it or you won't. You can even waitlist for all the days to come through at once if you like. It's less likely than if you waitlist for each day separately, but it can and does happen. If you waitlist for the enttire vacation, there is no risk of moving back and forth. You either get the waitlist or you stay where you are.

If it were me, I'd call day by day for the BWV reservation at the 7 month mark. (IMHO, the best chance is for a PV-Pool/Garden at the BWV, but you never know. Other views and the BCV could be available, too). If I had enough points to hold the VWL reservation until I was sure I had the entire BWV reservation, I'd do that. If not, I'd cancel the VWL reservation day by day to apply the points to the BWV reservation. If any days were not available when I called, I'd get on the waitlist.

7 months is a lot of time for a waitlist to work (if you have to use it). IMHO, there is only a very small chance that your waitlist(s) for the individual days won't come through. Again, August isn't one of the more popular times for DVC members to use their points at WDW. Good luck!

I agree that it wouldn't do any good to call now and check on availability. There's so much movement to different resorts at 7 months! I called once to check on availability at the resort I wanted to switch to at 7 months. This was over 10 months out and what I wanted (BWV standard view) was already booked. Boy, was I disappointed! But I called at 7 months, figuring I'd be put on an already long waiting list. Surprisingly, with all the movement, a room had opened up for me in the 3 months. Could have saved myself those months of feeling disappointed by not calling!

If you call 7 months from your check in, they can tell you if you need to book day by day or just can wait until the last day.

We booked 12 nights at BWV at 7 months last years for end of August and got it with no problems

We did book day by day. There were no standard views left at all when I started booking but there were preferred and BW views. MS told me that there were not many BW views left (this was at the start of my 12 day by day calls LOL) and that they could not say one way or another but wouldn't be surprised if the BW views had gone by the time I got to the end of 12 days. So I went with preferred.

Anyway, we had to call MS about something else 7 weeks before our stay began and found out that they had cancelled 3 nights of our stay at BWV (never found out why!) but even then, at 7 weeks prior, there was still availability

So this is a long -winded way of letting you know that I booked for the same time last year at 7 months with no problems

Just wanted you to know we booked a studio at the BCV for the end of August last year. I called at exactly the 7th month point from my check out day, did not call day by day, and had no problems. I agree with others that you should be ok with the end of August.

I think the advice MrShiny gave about asking MS at the 7th month point if they think you should call day by day or wait until the end, is good advice.
