7 month window booking questions

Well the 7 month window opens today! Yay! DH and I had decided to wait 5 days and then try to make a booking at BCV all in one phone call (as he doesn't want to stay for less than 5 nights and any one hotel).

However we were talking about it last night and I wondered if I should do it day by day instead, checking with member services first that the dates we want are all available at the moment (dh rang last week and availability was good then).

What I wondered is (and I'm sure I've read it before) is that if I explain what I'm planning to do to member services, they can advise on availability and they will effectively block the nights out to me as long as I ring each day to officially book. Or is that not the case and do I stand to be disappointed if it becomes booked?

I planned to ring each day when MS opens if we do it this way so should have a good a chance of anyone.

Or do I just wait until Friday and do it all then?

I want to correct one part of your comment above. If you call MS on Day 1 to see if day by day is necessary, they can give you an indication of how busy the resort is and whether they would recommend a day by day booking strategy.

However, they will not "block out the nights" for you. That is not allowed in DVC rules...that would essentially be making an advance reservation beyond the 7 month window and they cannot do that.

Given that you are trying to switch out to one of the smaller DVC resorts, my guess is that day by day will be your best strategy, and that you might have to waitlist some of those days. Hopefully, you will get what you want as you call.

Thanks Granny, that comment was just something I read somewhere but I was doubtful that it were true anyway.

I'm going to ring and check availability and take it from there.

This is going to get hairy, going into the 7 month window for November(Thanksgiving, Xmas decorations up, Jersey week and the end of F&W) and 11 month window for next March(Easter is March 23 2008) if they don't get this fixed soon. They were having problems most of last week too.

I know, people aren't going to be happy if they miss out on bookings just because they ring back and their systems have already been sorted and other people have booked before them. Just wish you could book online on a live system.

I think that booking online is probably #1 in on the DVC member wish, but if there is a software glich the point is moot then too.

I have called three times already today and the system is still down. I was just told to call later this afternoon.

I'm sure it is with the time difference. Do you have the luxury of a no charge number to call, or does every call cost you money?

I'm sure someone will mention here when they're able to get through! I'm trying to change a June ressie, we hemmed and hawed all weekend, and finally this morning said "do it." Well, the computer has it's own ideas!

It is a freephone number thankfully, but I was unlucky enough to get stuck on a broken down train on my way home from London last night and by the time I got in, the system was down again. Got to try again today, just hope there are some BCV studios left!

The rest of the family wanted to switch our SSR ressie to VWL. I would have had to waitlist for three of the days so I chose OKW instead. Now my DD is a bit unhappy about not getting VWL but we have never stayed at OKW so I think we'll leave it at that. (I wanted to stay put at SSR. Love that place) My DSIL will be staying there before our trip so maybe she can make our daughter feel better with my decision. LoL

My little boy was taken into hospital yesterday as he couldn't walk so all attempts at booking went of the window. He came home today so DH got on the phone as soon as MS opened. They initially had 3 nights in a studio at BCV which we said yes to but then it got snapped up. We then enquired into VWL and that was also available so we booked that. Need to ring day by day now to see if we can add some more days on.

Hope to get some nights at BCV once the F&W festival is over.

He's out of hospital now thanks and on the mend, had a viral infection that affected his hips, making him unable to walk, very scary.

Got 4 nights at VWL, going to try for BCv for our 2nd week.
